Don't worry, you can get all these in just about any supermarket. Spinney's, Carrefour, Choitram's, Lulu's etc. Because of the diversity in Dubai every supermarket carriers products from all over the world. Good luck on your move.

If the Philipinos Sanddunes mentions really earn only 1000 dhs a month, they will never be able to return to Dubai after their annal leave. The Philippine government will not give them an exit permit from Philipines unless they have a contract stating they earn 1500 dhs minimum.

She will get it done, as long as she brings all documents and gets there in time. Download all, fill them out, drop her at 7am to queue up and she'll be done by noon. It's so hard to travel for them, just makes you appreciate your own passport so much more!

I did it earlier this year. She needs an OEC. Your maid indeed needs to go to the consulate and bring: 1. Immigration Contract (original) of the worker with two (2) xerox copies; 2. Original passport of the worker 3. Passport copy of the sponsor and the worker - two (2) xerox copies; 4. Residence Visa copy of the worker - two (2) xerox copies; 5. If the sponsor is non local, she should include two (2) sposnor's residence visa copy 6. Affidavit of undertaking of sponsor 7. Information sheet of sponsor The forms mentioned in 6 and 7 can be downloaded from this page: http://www.polodubai.com/how-to-get-an-oec.html Make sure your maid goes there very early, as the wait is long and they only proceed a limited number each day. The consulate will issue the OEC at a cost of 40 AED

Our maid lives out, she's of Thursday 4 pm until Sunday 7 am. If we have guests or a party I'll ask her to come in for a couple of hours and usually compensate that time during the week.

I didn't see the original post, but surely there are other ways to prevent this lady from working for another family if you really think she's that useless. And by the way, useless is a very subjective term. You apparently didn't think she was useless when you were providing for her son.

Dolleymadison, Sakhifa and Nordique time to get off your high horses. Referring to people with opinions other than yours as regressive and uneducated while you dont know the person is a typical ew hero attitude very prevalent on this forum. There is nothing regressive about my post. First of all no I did not come to the region to find a man. I was offered a job knowing and agreeing to ALL rules and policies. I have seen many girls come here thinking they will live that glamorous life, find a man with money only to leave bitter and disappointed. When you want to work in a company you accept their policies or if you don't agree say no thanks. Nothing regressive or uneducated about it. It's common sense. The fact that all of you have ignored what I mentioned about says a lot about you being very occupied with someone else's back yard. Nobody asks you to go and work for QA do they? It's everyone's free choice to accept it or not. I am afraid your last para Marroosh comes over as very regressive. So there should be companies working unethically and abusing their staff, but that's OK, because no one forces anyone to work there? This is why attitudes don't change. Do you honestly think that either of those Swedish girls in the article would have gone to work for QA had they known of the realities of working there? The same goes for all the labourers whose passports are confiscated and who end up jumping off half constructed buildings because they can't take it anymore, or those Asians who run across SZR because then at least their family can get some blood money. If something is morally and ethically wrong, why must we turn a blind eye? would you accept this treatment if you had signed a contract overseas and then were suddenly thrust into a working situation where your every move was monitored and you could get fired and deported at any moment with no recourse?? What if heaven forbid a man rapes you and you get sent to prison yet somehow it's your fault - would you just accept that's the way it is here? Of course not! And I must say it is you on your high horse - you cover and take your religion seriously but just because some of us don't it means we are looking to get knocked up and marry the first guy we meet! I really dont know why thia has anything to do with my religion? I have been in this region for 8 years of which only half as a muslim, so please leave that out of the discussion. I have worked in the hospitality industry for 2 years in the region and have seen the way many female cabin crew behave. But again, if you know the rules and go ahead than thats your choice. Marroosh, I'm afraid I have to agree with TDB, it's you who needs to come off your high horse and your last post emphasises it (again). When I joined this forum 2 years ago I loved your posts. They were kind, educational and never judgemental. Somehow over the last year I've seen your posts change. More often then not they are judgemental (many if us are, nothing wrongwith that as long as you aknowledge it yourself) and soon as someone disagrees with you you seem to always want to have the last word. Human rights are an important topic, not just in the region but all over the world, and just because you sign up to something doesn't mean you can't criticise it or change your mind about it.

Everything is cheaper in the US. And better quality. What a ridiculous statement. The quality is defined by an independent certifying institute. So make sure you get a diamond with certificate. As emlsnre suggest look online for an idea of price. Many online retail sellers of diamonds and easy to compare as a result of the certificates.

I know exactly what you mean mum2girls. It's really a matter of priorities for them, and family support is often lacking!. I've tried to help all my maids save money. One succeeds, sends her kids to private schools etc. The other one sends boxes of grocery's and electronic equipment home, only to find out the family gives the groceries to the neighbours and the kids break their smartphones. I feel sorry for her, but in the end she's a grown up making her own decisions.

Isn't a probation period meant for mutual "discovery". Both employer and employee should be able to terminate the working relationship during a probation period. I doubt a ban can be implemented. What does your contract say?

From the Entertainer via mail: Dear Valued Customer, Thank you for your recent purchase of the Entertainer Dubai 2014. We are writing to inform you that we are currently experiencing redemption issues with one of our merchant partners, the Paris Group, which includes the following restaurants, all of which are included in both the Entertainer Dubai 2014 printed book and mobile product: Biella (Mall of the Emirates branch, Dubai Festival City branch, and Times Square branch only) Al Halabi (all outlets) Asha’s (Mall of the Emirates branch only) Rich (all outlets) Miu Shanghai (all outlets) At the present time, due to internal issues related to the merchant, these venues are not accepting mobile vouchers via the Entertainer App and have also limited redemptions of the paper vouchers. We are working with the top management of the Paris Group to remedy these issues but at the present time we have not been able to find a solution. Accordingly, in order to prevent the risk of a negative experience for you we are advising you not to attempt redemption of either paper or mobile vouchers within the outlets listed above. We have accordingly eliminated the vouchers from the Entertainer App. Please do note that both Biella and Asha’s branches located at Wafi Mall – which are not a part of the Paris Group - are still able to process redemptions fully with both paper and mobile vouchers so we do encourage you to visit those outlets, or one of the more than 275 family and casual restaurants and café’s found in our Entertainer Dubai printed book and mobile product. We deeply regret any inconvenience experienced by any of our customers. We understand that a positive experience for our customers in using the Entertainer vouchers builds the trust which is critical to us as a brand. However, on very limited occasions such as this, issues do arise which are beyond our control. We sincerely appreciate your understanding in this matter. Thank you once again for your business and continued support. The Entertainer Customer Service Team customerservice@theentertainerme.com Twitter: @EntertainerHelp

Hi my experience with Aloe vera gel is really good. Bec it contains enzymes and chromium picollinate compound that helps reduce blood sugar levels. But not all aloes are the same. I take the brand of Forever Living Products - they call it STABILIZED GEL to make sure it is a LIVE juice. Aloe is very sensitive so must be stabilized to maintain its nutrients. If anybody wants, I know where to get this product. I suspect you sell it yourself, but go on, where can we get it, apart from Holland & Barrett? And how do you use the gel as opposed to the juice?

You probably won't give her a good reference, but if you want to give her the opportunity to find another family, you can cancel her visa (at immigration) and she has 30 days to find a new family. Risks are she will abscond, and as long as she's in the country she's your responsibility until she's on another sponsor's visa. You will save the costs of a flight home. Don't know why she's 'unsatisfactory", but the easiest way to terminate the contract is to let her pack her stuff, take her to the airport, cancel her visa and put her on the first flight home.

With my first maid I found it awkward and I asked her to call me by my first name. She just couldn't and persisted in the madam. I'm used to it now and agree with TB that it nicely reflects the formal working relationship. When he talks about us I noticed she uses sir... and madam... and adds our first names. It works for all of us.
