The article doesn't mention the 90-days notice. Is that still in place, and where in the law or regulations is it stated? If I recall correctly LL didn't give OP the 90-days notice.

Actually you don't know what you would do, until you have teens and experience you can only say what you think at this point is your opinion on how you would handle a situation. Well, isn't that the case with most threads on here. Everybody constantly advises on situations they haven't been in. So I fail to see your point.

I took the Nour Takaful for our maid. Coverage (50.000) is basic, but reading through it I thought it covers just about what you might need. There're not many hospitals she can go to, but Irananian Hospital is on the list, it is always mentioned on here as a good hospital, and she lives in Satwa. And it's 1500 as opposed to the 4500 I paid last year.

I bring in cheese all the time. No problem, as long as it's sealed. You're allowed 5 bottles (4 ltrs) of champagne.

I agree with Redrec Tangle. Real friends don't just cut someone out of their lives like that. Not showing up on your wedding without contacting you? I would not bother, not worth your time. Real friends also forgive each other. People make mistakes and bad decisions all the time. Life's too short to speculate on the worst rather than try to make amends with someone you care about. The OP wants to renew friendship with a person who hasn't actually apologized. The friend isn't making any amends. When is the burden of responsibility going to be on the person who actually made the mistake? How about showing up, calling, saying something like, 'Hey, I messed up, sorry, can we start over?' If this very basic act of good intention is missing, technically its not a friendship at all, its just one person who really likes someone who couldn't care less about them, and will behave the same way going forward. I am disappointed in your reply Marroosh, you usually come across as a well balanced person. Friends, even past friends, should always be worth your time! It shouldn't be about the fact that the friend did or did not apologise, nor should it be about whose responsible. I agree with WG, people make mistakes and life is too short. Maybe OP's friend feels sorry but is afraid to renew contact. Maybe she's not. But all is speculation on our part. It is obviously troubling OP, which is why she should call her friend and see if they can somehow renew their friendship. Friends do forgive, with or without apologies.

But criticising someone (even if you didn't mean to) or disagreeing doesn't mean you disrespect them. You don't have to always agree, and there's certainly no need to walk on eggshells.

I'm also a fan of DR1958, she seems like a wise lady. But why do you feel the need start a thread to explain yourself if you, on occasion, disagree or feel the need to criticise? That's what this forum is about, different opinions, it's not about right or wrong. And even the saintliest of saints may have a different opinion or approach than you.

Contact her. You'll keep wondering if you don't. Most likely she feels the same and if she doesn't, worst that can happen is she rejects you and you'll get over it. At least then you know you've done your best to make up.

It really depends on what kind of food you're after, but these are my favourites if it comes to fine dining: Assado at The Palace Hotel does great meats Thipthara (also Palace) and Thai Kitchen (park Hyatt) are excellent in Thai Food Ushna in Souk Madinat for Indian Table 9 at Hilton Creek, based on Ramsey All are in Fine Dining Entertainer. Pier Chique in Al Qasr Hotel Fish and meat. Bice Mare in Souk al Bahar, excellent fish with fantastic fountain views Burj al Arab and Atlantis I wouldn't recommend. You pay for the name, food is average. And of course, congrats and have a lovely night!

I would think that it depends on what you agreed upon beforehand. Did you sign a contract mentioning the fee, or discussed this fee when you went to him? If not, you can always try and negotiate. 2% of the sales price doesn't seem exorbitant to me though, I believe I paid 5% in my home country.

The 5% threshhold no longer exists. But if you check the Rent Increase Calculator, it will tell you specifically what he can raise it by (if he can indeed raise it). It does in Dubai doesn't it? I thought it was Abu Dhabi that abolished the rent cap.

thank you for taking time to reply to a repeated question much appreciated, we will go to the agents on sunday armed with info to give landlord, I looked on dubizzle as well we in 2 bed at 125k in past 2 days they are now going 140k total bonkers, I have tried the rera calculator but it is being updated!! thank you again Just put a date within the next month on Rera, it will give you a price which will not deviate too much from February. Don't let yourself be fooled by Dubizzle or your Agent! Quite often your better if by dealing with LL yourself! After all, the agent is also in it for commission.

He has to give you 90 days notice AND if he did (which he didn't) cannot raise the rent by more than 5%, depending on the rents in your area as per Rera rental calculator. Personally I would check the rental calculator. If you are happy in your place, plan to stay for a couple of more years and the calculator indicates an increase is allowed, I would offer that. If you don't, LL could make it very difficult for you or even give you the 12 months notice to leave.

If you are talking about a sharjah visa: yes, the fee equals 12xmonthly salary, nationality doesn't matter to Sharjah immigration. It is the philipine embassy that expects their nationals to earn a minimum salary. Sharjah has no refundable deposit. Only the fee, but you have to pay every year. If Dubai, you pay a fee, as well as a refundable deposit, but again irrespective of nationality.

Anyway, you also get points using the HSBC creditcard. I'm positively surprised how quick you save enough miles for a flight.

THANK YOU FOR CARING VERDEQUE. The other posters responses are exactly why human rights of maids can be abused and will stay abused in this country. Yeah, slip her the number of her embassy and let's just shush and not get involved, the maid is probably exaggerating anyway. Unfortunately I don't know a lawyer. Hope someone else does.

FYI I emailed the OP last night 9pm to ask her to send her CV. Til now nothing. If I was desperate to find a job, that CV would have been sent by 9:05pm with a cover letter. Perhaps this is why people have trouble hiring and then people say they can't find a job! What a nasty thing to post over someone else's back. Totally uncalled for.

Was thinking: what's the deal here. But referring to it as a website instead of a forum makes them attract both advertisers as well as possible clients. If you look at the whole set-up and changes they made over the last 2 years, they're getting ready for that and all our nitty gritty will become a mere sideline. Have you seen how slow this forum crawls? The posters have been sidelining themselves out of action for a while now, while the straggling few left are debating on shampoo vs detergent for the hair!! That, and rehoming their husbands. ? But EW is still quit powerful. If you do a google search on any topic, 9 out of 10 times an EW threads pops up. And look at all the advertisements on the left and in the subject forums. It's ridiculous!

Yes, it worked for me. Most of the people I know had arranged marriages and they are also content. I am sorry Marroosh that it didnt work out for you this time. I like your watermelon metaphor Shaks! There is a big difference between an arranged marriage and a "set up" date. I do believe OP was asking about the latter one.

I was lucky enough to be at a venue in SA once, amongst 100.000 people, when Nelson Mandela unexpectedly made his appearance. It sent chills down my spine when everyone started chanting Madiba and the vibe amongst the crowd is indescribable. The world has lost a great man. RIP Madiba

Actually, it IS the point. Yes, she's been doing it for years, and yes, she looks lovely and trustworthy on the photo. But I would never hire someone without checking references and paperwork. And I would certainly not let a complete stranger spend the night in my house without "jumping on her passport", if only to check her story about the tourist visa! Really sorry OP that this happened, but AnonDubai is right. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 05/12/2013

Oke, so I was waiting for this thread to become yet another advertorial. It didn't, so I'll bump it, as I'm after the same thing. A professionally done natural makeup for a photo.Ideally with a salon or person that can also do a decent blow-dry.
