It is certainly possible and many landlords prefer dealing directly with the tenant. They will however charge you a fee, but probably only half the fee you would have to pay the agent. The good thing is that you will not have to pay the fee on renewal, which is what many agents lead you to believe to be mandatory. What you should do is choose the area (s) you prefer to live, and start driving around. Depending on the area you will often find several signs on houses with phone numbers. Some state : directly from owner, others don't but are usually also directly from owner. In compound areas you could try find out who owns the properties and get in touch with them. In our case we used a (very good I might add) agent, but there actually was a tel. number on the house and the landlord asked me why I hadn't come to him directly as it would have saved the both of us half the fee. We've had no trouble with him since. No rents raised, no fees at contract renewal, and all repairs are being taken care of. Good luck with your house hunt and ahlan wasahlan fi Dubai.

Should I stop being so daft and just get on with it? Of course you should and you know it. But we all know that's easier said than done. So chin up and keep living your life. Your ex is not worth a second thought, a year is not that long. You will find your wonderful man when the time is right.

It's understandable that the old employer wants to see a ticket or a new sponsorship. After all they are still responsible until she either leaves the country or finds a new employer. 39 days after cancellation overstay fees commence to apply. Have you called immigration? You seem to want to help her badly. Why don't you buy her a ticket out and start sponsorship process. Then bring her in and thus buy her time to find another family. Surely there must be somewhere in the process where you can withdraw your application without having to pay the fees. Or you can sponsor her period. To be honest, I think it all sounds very complicated. To help her out I would just get her a ticket home in order to avoid the ban, and have her start looking anew from there.

We will be looking to buy a car so you cannot drive a car you own without a UAE lisense? have I got that right... Also how do you go about getting Insurance? You cannot even buy a car without a UAE license. There are lots of insurance providers and usually your dealer will also offer insurance. It's worth to compare prices AND policy's though.

I have the same arrangement with my maid. I sponsor her full time, she only comes in a couple of days a week. She does get gov't holidays of, but she wouldn't dream of refusing to come in if I asked her to. That's our deal: she has a lot of free time, but if I need her, she comes in, no questions asked. So honestly, I think I would tell her enough is enough (wasn't she the one who refused to work at your mil's before) and cancel her visa soon as DH is back in Dubai. Not the best of times, with the new baby, but she wants to run the show, which she can't. You will find another maid who will appreciate her freedom.

They look horrible (according to dh) but I live in them all day. They provide very good support for your feet (compared to flip flops that is). You do have to get used to them, takes a couple of days. If I need a change I wear Naturalizers. Somewhat more elegant.

I think exapts are more excited than Muslims LOL I am an expat and a Muslim and I want to know!! But wouldn't we know by now if it was tomorrow? Many messages on Internet about presents and sheiks congratuling each other with Eid. Even the Ajman Ruler apparently send his Eid al Fitr greeting to Sheik Mohammed.

PoV - so sorry you're feeling sad & insecure during what should be such a happy time for you, but as he other ladies have said, pregnancy hormones can play havoc with your emotions. Seems to me your husband is trying his best to be kind and helpful, and maybe has had words with you maid to this effect too. [u'>[b'>To be honest, I'm shocked that so many ladies are saying 'cancel her visa, no references, send her home, ban her, etc etc' [/b'>[/u'> Unless you have evidence of any wrong-doing, this is unnecessarily harsh as she has not done anything wrong. Poor girl will be punished & penalised through no fault of her own. If you're unhappy with her, by all means get rid of her, but try and help her find another position rather than send her home. Hope all goes well and you're feeling better. Would you please READ what I post? I believe I posted to no ban on the maid.... READ again edited by Gorobattie on 06/08/2013 But you DID say "get her sacked, send her home". Really? As far as we know she has done nothing wrong. Accusing the maid of playing mind games etc. OP said nothing of the sort. Just because you had a bad experience with your maid, doesn't mean they all act alike.

I believe they do have the cabinets to fit in the standard size build-in ovens. I've had mine for nearly 2 years now and am positively surprised with the quality. Always had expensive designer kitchens at home, but Ikea works just fine!

Love it. Nobody believes it's an Ikea kitchen. But I did luck out with the "old" surface. If you can't re-use the existing top, I would start designing the cabinets just as you wish, then get a surface made from whatever material you want (google and surely anything can be manufactured here). If you can re-use it needs a little bit of juggling, but Ikea has many sizes and you will be able to make it fit. Actually I cut some pieces of the surface in order to fit in a dishwasher and the sink I wanted.

I kept the hard stone surface from the old kitchen, and replaced the cabinets with Ikea. Or you could have your desired top made somewhere else, and complete it with Ikea.

Paragon, I think you need to step back and relax a little. Nothing about your post suggest hard suspicion, let alone evidence to me. It may just be your pregnancy hormones playing up here. But it is obviously worrying you, so keep your eyes open, write down situations in which suspicion arises. Maybe even create a few as has been suggested already. Most of all, plan some nice things to do with dh. Maybe a weekend break, a movie night or dinner. Spend time together, enjoy and relax. If after all that you still have your suspicions, talk to dh.

I would really think twice about this. A community pool is actually a public place, so drinking would be illegal. But I can also imagine it would depend on the community. If it is a small compound, just check with your neighbours. If there are too many, I guess you have no choice but to either have your drinks at home or poor your wine into a Perrier bottle before serving it ?.

Personally I don't mind my dh having female friends and dh doesn't mind me having them. We both do, some are from before we even met, others are colleagues that turned into friends. We hang out with our other ... friends individually, but we know each others and they know our oh. OP, your are obviously not comfortable with it, so that makes it not ok for your husband to hang out with this lady. He has to take your feelings into account. If your discomfort is not a cultural matter, the most important thing is to find the the cause of your unhappiness. Why are you not happy with dh being friends with her. Has he ever given you any reason to not trust him. Or are you a jealous person by nature? I suggest you try and find these answers, before talking to dh.

Oh wow, I didn't realise live out was not allowed. Our maids room is currently used as storage and am not overly keen at the moment on having a live in. However, nor am I keen on doing anything illegal! It really is a maid minefield that doesn't ever seem to be very clear:-) Thank you As long as you fully sponsor her, and she doesn't work for anyone but you, it is not necessarily illegal. If she were on her own visa, that would be illegal. There was a post here not so long ago about a lady who had been informed by immigration that it is not illegal to have a live-out maid. So if you really want your answer, check it yourself with immigration. There are posters here who will claim just about everything to be illegal, others have other opinions. So best find your own way.

Honestly I don't know how one can expect a nanny/ maid to work for any less than 3k. If she is good she will work hard for you so deserves to be paid well in return. How can one expect her to have a fair standard of living including eating well on a salary as low as is mentioned here. A western expat wilmlsepnd more that 1000 aed on a brunch for 2!!!! The suggested rates of pay suggest below should be reviewed! edited by Norts on 28/07/2013 The rates below have been set by their coutries embassy and im sure that they thought long and hard when suggesting these rates based on how much that money is in Rupees or pesos and didnt pluck them out of thin air. Yes, the rates have been set by their embassies and the dirhams will go very far if converted to rupees. But how on earth would a maid be able to live out on 1400 dhs a month?! To the OP, I pay 2500 to our live out, but with bonuses and other extra's (she does a fantastic job!) it amounts to 3000. On top a yearly ticket and a month paid holiday. When she is at our house, she eats whatever she likes and I often give her food to take home.

Can't advise you whether or not she needs a signed letter (I would assume so), or if there is a template. With regards to the signature an alternative could be to go to the embassy to sign the document. In The Netherlands someone from the consular department "counts as" a notary public.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. Hope all goes well indeed. As for your question, first you will have to decide wether you want to hire a qualified nanny, or a maid. Those are totally different things. A maid looking after your baby will have no qualifications. A qualified nanny will be very expensive and will usually not clean your house. Once you have decided what it is you need, you can check on the maids forum. There are many threads on agency's.

If I read correctly, you have been living in the apartment for 9 months without paying electricity/water and housing fee. It is just as much your responsibility to make sure DEWA is in your name, as it is your landlords. No matter who's fault it is, you will have to pay your bill. Your bad if part of it is from the previous tenant, you should have taken action when you moved in. All other things you mention are very unfortunate, not a nice situation to be in, and I feel sorry for you. But it has nothing to do with your obligation to pay your debts.

It is a straight cancellation. There is no such thing as transferring a visa (although you will find many threads on the issue). For the sake of your maid I would urge her new sponsor to get started with the visa process ASAP. I suppose the 30 days grace period also applies after expiry of the visa, so I wouldn't expect any fines. The reason you have to cancel, is that she will remain under your responsibility, even after expiry of her visa, as long as she is still in the country or until she has a new sponsor. You can try getting the cancellation done with a copy of DH's passport, visa page and a letter from him, but I assume he will have to do it. You will by the way not get your deposit back until her new visa is processed. You will need to show a copy of her new visa to immigration in order to get your deposit back.

I don't think there is anything in between. Would be interested to hear if there was. On the other hand, you might be surprised with some of the Dragon Mart quality. I managed to find something which I thought to be of decent quality early last year. Bought it with the idea that it was still cheaper to replace it after two years than to buy the expensive stuff. Now, after two hot summers uncovered in the sun, everything still looks and feels pretty new, same as my friends expensive set from Ambar.

Oopsiedaisy what's not diverse about this being on the side panel? Diversity is about encompassing and celebrating all different cultures and looking at the side panel and other headlines this is exactly what EW does. The Kate headline, for example, is sitting between a guide to the best Iftars and a Ramadan guide. The fact that EW is diverse means news such as the Royal baby should be celebrated not excluded. I was only kidding!! And referring to another thread. But since you seem to find my comment disturbing, I gave it another thought and must say there are many more international headlines (be it other countries royal babies, royal ascending to the thrown etc.) that do not make it to EW side panel.

What about a country that is at war like Syria? Do they fast in Syria? If so, do they also refrain from killing each other during the day? They do fast, but then again, there is an enormous shortage of food. Umayyad Mosque in Damascus is not serving Iftar, both because of the shortage as well as a consequence of the security risks. There are several private initiatives to provide Iftar to the very poor, but those distributing the meals are doing so in danger of their own lives ? It is all too sad. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 22/07/2013
