I agree with those who say that all children are different and all mothers are different, and some babies no matter what you do will cry and cry and cry. You can't lock yourself up at home because your child is bothering others! Life goes on... Being a mother is such a hard job - this coming from someone who is about to have her first baby. I already have my best friend giving me baby advice when in my eyes she is the worst mother in the whole world and each time she tells me "you must do this" or "you must do that" i wanna say "why the **** would i ever take advice from you! You're the worst parent ever!" But in her eyes she's the best. And in her eyes ill probably be a terrible mother and an even worse one for not taking her advice! What to do! I feel like i'm already being judged and i haven't even had my baby. Wondering how long you two will stay best friends.

Without going into the legal aspect (of course it's not), I have babysat for my neighbour's kids as well as my parent's friend's kids from when I was 12 years onwards. There was never an emergency, and had there been, my parents would always be no further then 10 minutes away. A responsible teen is often a better bet then a maid (reading your stories on here, that is). And should you be "caught", who is to prove you are paying the kid. How about a friendly neighbour's service? edited by Oopsiedaisy on 07/03/2013

I think they do a ladies night where theres no minimum spend for women but there is for men.... There never is a minimum spend for women, but always 200 minimum for men. You do need to book ahead, especially the sunset times are booked several days in advance.

and sick of trying to lose weight. That tuna salad I had for lunch did not even fill a corner of my stomach. I bet none of us have ever really felt starving hungry. So stop wining, drink a bottle of water, brush your teeth and do something to distract you from food.

We used Mountain Gate (Sister agency to Howdra/Explorer) and were able to take our maid home immediately. Give them a call and see if there is a wait just in case there isn't. x Sorry JPS1, aren't you putting up thread after thread about how unhappy you are with your agency maid? If you cannot fix your maid issue with the agency, why recommend the agency to others?

The Blue Souk in Sharjah is a very good place to buy a carpet. Bargain, but if they see that you are really interested, they will help you and not overcharge you. Make sure they know you're not a tourist though.

I went to a Tupperware party once, back home. Would never go again though, nor would I invite my friends to one. Basically you trick them into buying stuff they don't need, because most would buy something to be kind to the Tupperware lady and the host. Besides, it is too expensive. Lots of cheaper options available these days.

Head over to one of their outlets and have them change their "reminder" to one of the three. I registered to only have the SMS, 2 weeks before it is deducted from my cc. The reason they inform you of your bill being online is to check it before they charge your cc. Don't know what would happen if I found a mistake. Find it hard to believe I could do anything to stop them from charging my cc. But hey, at least I only receive 1 SMS/month.

I wouldn't be too bothered about the gift thing. Don't think they are asking you to bring one. What does bother me is that apparently the older ones get jealous if someone gets a gift and they don't. Wouldn't this be a great opportunity to teach them that they are not always the centre of attention and that others may also get a gift?

I find this whole upheaval about horse meat very hypocritical. Why on earth is is so wrong to eat horse as opposed to cows and chickens. They are all animals aren't they? Yes but if it is labelled HORSE then I know what I am buying. Fraud is the point. If I get horse, I want to pay horse prices! [img'>http://www.pic4ever.com/images/2gwb921.gif[/img'> Love your emo. Oke, fair point about the label. However if people only stopped to think twice about prices they pay for some products, they would know it couldn't possibly be right! Not pointing directly at the beef-horse issue, but soo many food prices are too low!

BCS, combining this thread and your other, I cannot but conclude that you and your "helper" are the wrong match. Sit out the next months and find yourself a new lady soon as her contract is up. But DO decide which is important to you, the house or the baby. There is no such thing as a helper. You employ a nanny (with household duties) or a maid (with babysit duties).

O my, this may seem a quick questing to you, but tipping is quite a controversial subject here. Ask 10 ladies, you will get 15 answers. Best do a search on the forum, tipping, and you will find many threads, from tipping service staff, to maintenance people, maids to movers etc. Basically it is up to you. I tend to tip if I'm happy with whatever service I've been given. 5-15%, depending on the amount of the bill. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 21/02/2013

If you are sure that your colleague in question is suffering from the treatment, I would probably just say as it is. Tell your boss that you think she has done a good job, and that the company might be loosing her if she continues to treat her this way. But are you really sure it is bullying? Like I said, you may be judging your boss too harsh and your young colleague should just man up.

In defence of the "horrid woman boss": nobody tends to judge a woman boss harder then a woman employee. Instead of helping and supporting a woman who managed to get into a management position, fellow women begrudge her her success and turn against her. Which in turn makes the woman boss very wary off the women around her, and thus this situation goes on and on. Why not try talking to your boss? And by the way, men bosses have their favourites to, and they also boss their colleagues around. It's not really a women thing. Women just tend to get more upset when a woman is acting like that.

Back on subject: OP, you are obviously being taken for a ride. Either sit the maid down and explain the ground rules, or send her back home right away. She is not allowed to work for her old sponsor, if caught, you will be held responsible.

Why on earth wouldn't you want to pay the last six months? You used it, so you should pay. You knew it would be coming. We had the same issue, no bills coming, went to Dewa a couple of times, they said it would come eventually and it did. If you have an issue with the initial reading that's your problem. You don't have a leg to stand on, so get over it and pay.

Thanks for your replies. I haven't been clear enough: I have had my IPad for ages, just upgraded to the newest version. I will not be buying another device, so was wondering what the best way for reading on my IPad would be. Using either the kindle app, or just go with IBooks. Thanks RuthM. I suppose I will start the easy way with IBooks, and once I run out off titles I can always install the kindle app.

All you have to do is cancel her visa. Her new family will have to start their own visa application process. They will need your cancellation slip. Technically they have 30 days to finalise the process. If somehow those 30 days are not enough, they will have to pay a fine for each day the maid overstays the 30 day-limit. Once the new family has arranged for the new visa, you can get your deposit back. You will need a copy of the maids new visa, as well as a copy of the new sponsor's visa page.

Since dh tends to buy things he likes anyway, I've always given him "memories". I throw him a big surprise party every decade (I guess by now that's no longer a surprise). In addition: For his 30th, a solo flight in a 2 motor airplane, for his 40th I rented him a Ferrari for a weekend (of course long before moving to Dubai where everyone seems to drive own one). His 50th is coming up later this year and I think it will be a Balloon Flight. So as age progresses, the speed of his gifts seems to be slowing down. ? This year his uni buddies will be flying over, so that will be the biggest surprise. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 16/02/2013

What I find sad about this forum is that some posters get upset if they do not get the answers they want, or worse, if it is not "worded" in the way they like it to be. IMO there's nothing sarcastic about Shakifa's answer. She's only putting it bluntly: nothing wrong with not having a blow-dry. So basically the same answer as the other posters. I fail to see OP's problem with that. And to answer your question: same as you would go to have only a blow-dry if that's what you need, you can skip the blow-dry if you don't need it. There is nothing offensive about that. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 16/02/2013

Thanks for the info spicy pepper. The flight bit, I get. The holiday bit seems weird, because in our contract it says that out of the 12 month she is entitled to one month of holiday. So if within those 12 months she would have taken the holiday, that's settled. If she hadn't taken it, and would be leaving, I still believe she would be entitled to a one month salary. That would not be a holiday gratuity, but the salary for the month she worked which she wouldn't have had to work. Just my thinking though.
