Once the flights start filling, prices will go up, then 4 weeks before the date they go down if plenty of seats are left, but only briefly. Last 2 weeks booking is the most expensive. I've noticed this pattern with Easyjet several times now.

OP, first of all, better get used to your parents treating you like a child. Parents do that, you will always be their little girl, especially as long as you live in their house. You feel your underestimated, but the only example you give is your clothing. I don't know what jobs you're interviewing for, but maybe you can explain to them that you feel you have a better chance of getting the job if you wear western clothes. Do you have friends? Are they traditional Pakistani or more Western oriented. If the latter, maybe introduce them to your parents and let them see with their own eyes it isn't all that bad. I feel that maybe your parents are afraid that you will loose touch with you own culture, so try respect that. There must be other ways then by wearing traditional dress only, to demonstrate your respect for them and their culture.

On the maid's section of EW (mind you, NOT on the maids forum) we are advised to pay our maids between 2000 and 3000. I guess the maids read EW as well.

You're right, if she keeps complaining the agency will get rid of her. The 500 dhs the the agency doesn't pay her, will probably be to cover their expenses such as ticket and visa costs. But I guess you also paid a hefty fee to explorer. Just do the math: how much do you pay the agency and how much does she actually get. IMO agency's are leeches and underpay their maids. But apparently they can get away with it.

Assuming she is on your full sponsorship it doesn't matter how many days a week she works. She would be entitled to 1 ticket home every year, as well as a month paid vacation. So you have to pay her her monthly salary while she is on vacation.

We just faced the same decision while booking our first Maldives trip. Decided to go HB. I thought we would probably over eat if we take 3 full buffet meals a day (and also we are not buffet people at all!). A good breakfast with a dinner anytime at any resort restaurant would be better. Some AI tend to let you have only 1 meal a week at their nicest restaurant, we wanted full flexibility. Maldives is super expensive anyway, so we're not going to worry about a few $ more or less.

Hi! Atlantis is having a couple's offer (1995 + 20% tax) at the moment (I'm sure your 3 year old will be allowed) with breakfast as well as AED1000 dhs dinner voucher. Just wanted to know to all those who have been to atlantis. is the deal a real deal?? worth it? (sorry to hijack your thread but would be useful info) :) We took this offer last year. Didn't like it at all. I find the food at Nobu highly overrated. Rooms are huge, but not special. Breakfast too massive. Wouldn't recommend at all.

All incidents seem to be recent. If he's been with you a long time, and this neglect only started recently, you might want to ask him why. Depending on his response keep or replace him. If he's fairly new, I would send him away ASAP.

Back to the fog issue - when I was out and about earlier this morning, I was totally amazed at how many drivers had not put on their headlights. I was always taught this was the first thing you did when driving in fog - obviously the authorities here need to get the message across - headlights on (not emergency flashers - though have to say I didn't see any of those this morning for a change). In many countries the headlights of a car will automatically switch on when you start the car. Hence most cars will always have their headlights on. Better visibility and a lot safer, no matter what the weather is. I actually always keep my headlights on her in Dubai as well.

I'm afraid my husband's opinion of EW and most of the women on it could not be repeated on a public forum :D Haha, are you sure we're not married to the same guy (and thus have our own little marriage problem going on)?

I Pea soup reminds me of traditional Dutch pea soup, it's awful lol. No it's not. It's delicious, love it! and with all the snow and ice in The Netherlands at the moment, am sure it will on most dinner tables tonight. brrrrr. Sometimes is so thick you can leave your spoon standing up straight in it. I gag by the thought of it, and the other day when I called my mom she was giving me an elaborate account of her soup. I had to stop her lol Haha, shows how different tasts are. For me, the thicker the better. You think they sell split peas here? Might just give it a go tonight. No idea to be honest, the closest to "Dutch" food I found is chicory.. Yum.. In the oven with loads of cheese. Usually eaten with ham and cheese, but my ham days are long gone lol. Should try turkey ham.. Well, I did see spitskool in Spinneys the other day. Funnily enough it was the first time I saw a whole one. In Dutch supermarkets they are always shredded to make stampot. So maybe a nice spitskool stampot ? By the way, I love that chicory dish, don't know about the turkey ham though.

It's perfectly legal to have your maid live out, as long as her living quarters are according to UAE law. So for instance only in a ladies only apartment. Nor is she allowed to do parttime work for someone else. Since most maids prefer to live in (saves them a lot of money and commute) I would however want to know her reasons for wanting to live out. That said, we have a full time live out maid and very happy with the arrangement. I would never want my privacy invaded on by someone living with us full time. I believe that somewhere in the application form we had to state that she is not living with us. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 22/01/2013 edited by Oopsiedaisy on 22/01/2013

Hi littleone, wow, brave of you to start the HCG diet, as I mentioned in an earlier post, it worked for me. Food boredom can be a little challenging, but there are plenty of good, easy and tasteful recipes. I got mine from the booklet that was provided with the capsules. Also there is a user forum where recipes are being shared. all in Dutch though. You will soon get a few favourite recipes and as they are really tasteful cook the m over and over again. Also, after the first 24 days you can add some dairy and all other vegetables to your diet. Try googling, but here is a site that seems to have a good choice of recipes: http://www.hcgplan.net/hcg_diet_menu_home.html Good luck! edited by Oopsiedaisy on 21/01/2013

WG, this is the second time today I fully agree with you. Been on and off all day, haven't changed my mind. Somewhere there was a mention of techies doing a great job. I always wonder, where do these techies get their input from. Should be from the clients/users. But judging from most of the reactions, no one has been consulted. I didn't say they did a great job - just a thankless one lol I didn't quote, because I don't remember who said it. Another poster then, probably admin. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 16/01/2013

She can live with the new family as soon as they've set the paperwork in working. At least that's what we did, assuming that if someone would come and check, we would always be able to prove that we were indeed intending to sponsor her. Thank you. So as soon as we have cancelled she could move with the new family on the same day as long as they have started the process so to speak. Also, and how do we get our deposit back? thanks... Yes I would think so. You will get the deposit back when the transfer is complete. So you will need a copy of the visa page in her new employers passport. May have to wait a bit for that.

We've always said we'll take our four children and leave Dubai when they hit high school. For us. that's in five years. Are many people planning to do that? I know many expats all over the world do that. If not for the costs, for giving them a sense of stability and a feeling of home in their parents home country.

I guess you can't "force" her to regard the days you choose as being her holidays. As I see it there are 2 possibilities. First: I she wants to take her annual leave, you can tell her to take it at a time you won't be needing her. However you cannot cut it short to 2 weeks. Second: If she does not want to take annual leave but chooses to stay here instead, you would have to pay her the ticket money as well as the month she would be entitled to if she went. It's all about money for these girls, and if you don't need her, it's just her luck. She needs a full time position as well as "the extra's" I'ld be very interested in what other posters have to say though.

I doubt it's not thought through. They have to create 5000 new jobs this year as per yesterday's newspaper for nationals and I know many people including myself who will resign and rather go home than moving to Abu Dhabi, guess which nationality the new hires will be. At the end of the day the new rule only effects AD gov and semi gov entities and they just really don't care much about if the some expats find school places or not. Why would they care? Many other countries take care of "their own" first. Why would here be any different. If you don't like it: leave. Btw, in many countries effected by the crisis people are currently being given the choice to either move to another location or loose their job. A year's notice is ample time. I did not complain. I just posted the post as some people apparently think it's bad planning and it is absolutely not. They planned it in the way the want the outcome that's all I say. I know you didn't complain, my comment wasn't directed at you personally, only at your fact statement that the UAE government doesn't care about expats. And to the posters at the beginning of this thread who were complaining. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 15/01/2013
