Padilla comes up in a couple of threads. No specific reviews though. I would also be interested to know, as The Entertainer has a special brunch offer on this month.

I know I know. I'm still eating chocolates because DH refused to pass that ridiculously large and delish bowl of chocolates on. Now I'm paying the price...

You can rent lovely catered beach villa's in Indonesia. Doesn't cost much and you can combine with some sightseeing. Definitely relaxing!

Does anyone know if liquid butter (eg Bertoli's) is available here? In the meantime I'm trying to avoid butter for baking and use olive oil.

There are agency's where you can obtain a maid for a couple of hours. I don't know any, but there are lots of threads. They ysually charge 35 dhs/hr. You will probably be better (and cheaper) of sponsoring a live-out maid on a full time basis but only let her come in when you need her. It will cost you 2000-2500 on a monthly basis (excl. the sponsorship costs), you will have full flexibility and she gets to keep all her salary.

You dont see why people get wound when they're given the middle finger? So you think there's nothing wrong with someone signalling to you that they'd like to insert their finger into a certain part of your anatomy? I dont believe you for a minute. I think what you posted was the kind of answer that can be expected of you at times just for the sake of it. Of course it's not the most polite thing to do. I just don't let it get to me and I would never consider reporting anyone because of it.

Weird - deja vu. I posted the IDENTICAL post about a month ago and got absolutely attacked by 90% of respondents who said I was petty and ridiculous for reporting someone over the finger, even tho it was accompanied by reckless and dangerous driving. The finger was the icing on the cake. I wonder why some people get universal agreement for their posts yet others get absolutely destroyed for it?! True, I was thinking the same thing. However, I'm still of the same opinion today as I was then. If OP wants to report him for reckless driving, by all means do so. However I just fail to see why people get so upset when someone gives her the finger. Breeth and let it rest IMO. I know it's against the law and all that, but there are worse laws to break, like jumping a red light, or speeding, both of which are reckless and both have been admitted to on this forum before.

Wouldn't know what the attraction with your old ring is, probably to get you to buy in their store. With respect to your new diamond, no need to worry about buying here. As long as you make sure they supply the ring with its diamond certificate, you will be oke. ETA spelling edited by Oopsiedaisy on 05/01/2013

Don't see anything wrong with this. I wish more kids would be willing to work and earn an honest dirham, instead of thinking money grows on trees. It may depend a bit on the location, but I live in Jumeirah and would be happy to employ these little entrepreneurs :)

You will need the cancellation papers from her previous employer. In our case the work contract was provided by immigration, but that was a Sjarah visa, don't know about Dubai. With the new visa you will simultaneously have to apply for a new Emirates ID.

Not to discourage you, but If the person who is interviewing you is any good at his or her job, he/she will probably see through you. More money is the worst motivation for any applicant (at least from the employers perspective). I definitely wouldn't fall for it, unless you manage to be genuinely enthusiastic about the company and job.

I always use BonBini (www.bonbinibc.com) They charge 450 for our 5 bed in Jumeirah. Depending on the weather I have them come 4/year. Dutch owners, so they know how to clean a window. Tel 050-5069245

We were at the Palm, could see all three fireworks. Burj Khalifa looked awesome, but very short indeed. Atlantis was spectacular, lasted over 10 minutes and Jumeirah Beach much longer even. We stayed on the beach for much longer, would have been happy with more. It was a beautiful night! No problems driving to the Palm and back to Jumeirah at all. Happy New Year everyone, let's make it a great one!

Ok, error (!) I arrived at 3AM - but, I don't think it is as bad now, this is going back to 2003 (the last time I even mentioned the words Beach Rd on NYE), when the Palm was just beginning as a small island thing and there was a party out there and the traffic was horrid as everyone was either heading to that party, the beach, the Burj or JBH, and it was a gridlocked nightmare that there was simply no way out of. I'm sure with Salik it is better now, though. alhamdulilah :-) I thought you meant 3am indeed, just couldn't imagine. Let's hope after tonight I don't have the same memory. Hope to be back home by 3 am.

Breathalisers do save lives by catching those endangering themselves and others, telling people to be careful of them does not, they just risk lives on another road. I disagree AmyAus. I'd much prefer that people were warned they might get caught so make the decision to not get behind the wheel in the first place than they drive thinking they will be ok and then get caught. Because unless they get caught before pulling out the driveway then they are going to be travelling at least some distance before getting stopped. I'd rather they drive no distance at all. I share your opinion Daza. Better be warned!

I don't find this reassuring at all. Apparently these groups feel confident and safe enough to operate from UAE. And with hardly any (visible) security at public places, be it malls, concerts or any other place, there are plenty of targets here. No, not reassuring.

Thanks Oopsie. My husband also says ask her. But who will say no to an all-paid-for holiday to see their family? i have to be 100 percent sure i can manage without her before giving her the option. In that case it's a theoretical question, as you are the only one who knows if you can manage.

I believe it is very kind of you to consider letting her go for a week. I am sure you can do without her for such a short period of time. Your house won't be falling down on you, especially if your mum s going to be there. So why not let your maid choose? She didn't want to go a month a go, maybe she still won't.

Sorry to see you back here under such sad circumstances. With all stress involved in moving back and starting live all over, this must be a terrible strain. I believe that if you, as you say, forgo children to stay with your husband, there will come a moment in time where you resent him for this. I am not saying you should leave him. You should however decide which is more important to you, children or (this) husband. If you love him, no matter what, you will eventually grow over your desire for children. If you don't love him no matter what, you will always wonder what if.... Since the IVF went wrong only recently, he might need some time to get used to the adoption idea. For some 'broody" men it's really a macho thing to want their own. I have a friend just like that, but after many IVF attempts and a lot of convincing from her side he finally "gave in" and they went down the adoption road. They are now waiting for their first child and he is just as exited as she is. So maybe he just needs some time? I hope the new year will bring you and DH the wisdom you so much need to deal with this dilemma.
