Cara in the G & D Park has a dedicated shop for silver. I went there today. They refused to do it. Came up with some excuse about it being to difficult. I think they just didn't want to do it because I wasn't buying anything else. Mind you, bought plenty there in the past. Will never set foot in that shop again.

Back to bed, order your favourite comfort food (even though it's only 10), and watch a movie (on DVD). Good luck, cheer up, weekend's coming.

DH's company always hires 2nd/3rd year engineering students for summer internships. . They however start their search in March and finalise everything by end May. I guess that goes for many companies, so U'm afraid they've left it a bit late.

This is what I posted last year. did the sane thing in Feb. this year. Can't find the thread either. Your maid needs to go to the consulate and bring: 1. Immigration Contract (original) of the worker with two (2) xerox copies; 2. Original passport of the worker 3. Passport copy of the sponsor and the worker - two (2) xerox copies; 4. Residence Visa copy of the worker - two (2) xerox copies; 5. If the sponsor is non local, she should include two (2) sposnor's residence visa copy 6. Affidavit of undertaking of sponsor 7. Information sheet of sponsor The forms mentioned in 6 and 7 can be downloaded from this page: http://www.polodubai.com/how-to-get-an-oec.html Make sure your maid goes there very early, as the wait is long and they only proceed a limited number each day. The consulate will issue the OEC at a cost of 40 AED

I'm not bored with Dubai. I get lonely (and sad) because my best friends have left over the last 6 months. I know that's expat life, I've been through it many times before, but it seems to get harder as you get older. And Dubai is not a good place to make new friends.

Mine expired recently, no sponsor change, but they issued a new one anyway. So I believe there's no such thing as "renewing". They'll just give you a new card and charge you accordingly.

No :(. he is back at the Dewa Substation. A very unsafe place for him to be but there was no other choice. He is afraid to be out there so hides in the substation :(......We are still hoping for a foster or permanent home for him. He is getting food and water. I believe there WAS another choice. How is being unsafe and afraid, with hardly any prospect of being fostered, better than being put down. The poor thing was rescued, taken care of for a couple of days and thrown back to where he came from. That's cruelty at it's worst in my book.

When the hair you've spent 20 minutes straightening goes curly and frizzy within 2 minutes of being outside. Bane of my life!! Alternatively, when you've spent ages getting some volume and wave into your hair, it drops down on you the minute you walk out the door.

..to have her child eat parts of several nectarines and them put them back on the display?? Well, I asked her, at what point she started yelling at me to mind my own business. I didn't even try to explain to her how it is my business, since I am a paying customer (obviously as opposed to her) and might be the next one to pick up those nectarines.

I don't see what background or money has to do with it. He's cheating on his wife, they're both your friend. If this is behaviour you condone, keep quiet and pretend. If this is behaviour you don't condone, tell the guy you have a problem with it and let him know you're not going to lie to your girlfriend any longer.

I don't want to start a debate. I know you'd do everything for these poor animals Sue, and each and every story touches me. But sometimes I really think it would be more humane to put the cats down instead of rescuing them and putting them back on the streets? Like you say, he's one of thousands. Impossible to find them all a home. :( Hope you do though.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am not looking for something super expensive, so I will check bath and body works and The White Company! In that case you could also check Ikea. They have good priced scented candles as well. The White Company will be expensive.

Many people visiting Colombo actually stay in Negombo as that's where the airport is. Traffic from airport into Colombo is horrendous, so most avoid Colombo altogether, stay in Negombo for a couple of days before heading into Sri Lanka or back home.

LL does the repairs and maintenance. We do the deep cleaning of filters, ducts etc, although last year LL offered to pick up the bill for that as well. I guess it depends on your LL and your relationship to him. We hardly ever complain, take care of the nitty gritty ourselves and he's happy to fix whatever we do end up asking for.

And even if they go down, I somehow doubt that the rent calculator will be updated downward. LL's will keep that as their benchmark for annual renewal (raise!). Yes, but if equal properties are being advertised for less, people will move eventually. Good point. Personally I would probably not go through the hassle of moving. But I hope others would.

You probably don't want to hear this, but as her employer your required by law to provide her with health insurance. For now take her to Iranian Hospital, pay the fee and hope it's nothing serious. I would like to understand this requirement correctly. As for what I know, this is applicable for companies and not individuals. But if you have any resource online to clarify this matter I would appreciate. I am infact looking for an health insurance for my maid and every one of the proposal is over AED 3,000. Is that what everyone is paying or have I missed some plan. Laws have changed and you now have to submit proof of health insurance for your maid. Here's a recent quite I received from Dubai National Insurance Company and Orient Insurance Company.: DNIRC (Gold) 2106 DNIRC (Silver) 1959 AOIC (Green) 3847 AOIC (Silk Road) 3546 We used to have Noor Takaful insurance, but hey don't provide plans for domestic servants anymore. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 27/04/2015
