We used Saniservice about half a year after we moved into our villa. It made a huge difference. Smells were gone and the whole house stayed fresher, less dust. They take out the entire ducts and clean them, disinfect etc. They cover all furniture while working and leave the house spotless. We've done it again after 18 months (didn't take the quarterly service package as I don't think it worth it) and will continue to do so. As a repeat customer you'll get a discount from the second service onwards, Have recommended them before and would do it again.

Yes. You paid too much. So you happily pay 25 for a mere alteration, but you find 100 for cutting and sowing too much?

Thanks Beebers, tried ACE, but they only carry stuff that particularly doesn't have copper sulphate. Will check Dubai Garden Center tomorrow. I need a miracle to get the algae out of our pool and copper sulphate will definitely do the trick. Tried everything else :( edited by Oopsiedaisy on 20/04/2015

What exactly is nasty about not liking her voice or finding it annoying? Nobody says she's not a nice person. For a radio personality a voice is of the utmost importance. If I was Chanel 92, I would want to know if people switch channels because they have a problem with my new morning person's voice. er because you employ someone for more than their voice? Their personality, the ability to be interesting and engaging. She's only been there a week and already you're crucifying her. Give the poor girl a chance. And the head of station wouldn't have employed her, if they didn't think she was up to the task. I am not crucifying her. I dislike her voice, for me that's a deal-breaker for a radio personality. I have therefor switched to Virgin.

I do wonder if people realise that their comments can be hurtful. Just because people are in the public eye, doesn't mean they don't have feelings. Would you like it if someone walked into your office and started pulling you apart - I think not. As the old saying goes 'if you have nothing nice to say - shush' and change the station. edited by FairyDust on 19/04/2015 That's nonsense. If you choose to be on the radio 5 days a week you can expect feedback. Both positive and negative. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 19/04/2015 It's not nonsense at all! There's 'constructive criticism' then there's just being nasty. No need for the latter. What exactly is nasty about not liking her voice or finding it annoying? Nobody says she's not a nice person. If she manages to find an admin job her new employer will have to arrange her visa. All you need to do at that point is cancel her isa and no, you won't get any of that money back. Until she leaves the country or finds a new sponsor you won't get your deposit back either. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 17/04/2015

Yes you're paranoid. Thing is, you only hear the bad stories, never the good ones. I'm pretty sure there are more good ones than the "horror". None if my friends have ever had "maid issues". Save yourself the money agency's charge, and try and find someone via the classifieds or via a neighbour's maid.

We found our maid through the classifieds, but instead of interviewing lots, I choose a lady who's e previous sponsor had placed the classifieds. As such I had a reference, I interviewed her at her previous sponsor's house and the whole process went very smooth. Without paying ridiculous agency fees.

There are heaps of African hairdressers in Deira/Abu Hail. But may I ask, what on earth is satin supposed to do to your hair? It's more something it doesn't do. Because satin is so smooth, it keeps your hair from tangling up when you rub it over your pillow during your sleep.

Hi Ladies, Iam currently looking for a job and just found out that am pregnant as well !! but i was wondering when you should tell your employer that you are pregnant ? is there a law in the UAE that states that or any guideline at all ?? Thx Of course you should tell your employer. If you lie or ignore it, they will find out and will forever doubt your character (rightly so if you ask me). And US law is hardly relevant here.

I don't know about little boy toys, but the price of little girl toys has increased (almost doubled) since I was younger. Now the price of a barbie ranges between 80-300 dhs with the average cost of the nicer ones being around 120-180 dhs. If I were to spend less I would really be confused what to buy, other than a book or a board game (but I never know which ones are good to buy). Then again, a Barbie would've been never given as a gift when I was young. It was considered outrageous then, I believe it is outrageous now. If my girlfriend was a Barbie fan, the most I would buy would be a dress or some other accessory. Not that I didn't love her, I wouldn't be able to afford more, nor would most other kids at the party. A book with a thought or wish written into it makes a beautiful lasting gift.

200?? You must be joking. No wonder people in Dubai are raising spoiled brats. 50-75 dhs should be more than enough. And I don't think it matters where the party is held. After all, that's a decision of the host isn't it. edited by Oopsiedaisy on 14/04/2015

The rent calculator has become a self fulfilling prophecy. As long as there are villa's or apartments in your area that are below the so called "average", those LL's will continue to increase their rents, the average will go up and so on and so forth.

If it's just about nationality, I agree with you. However, the sad truth is that most maids seem to think that western families offer better salaries and working conditions. I don't know if that is the case, but I think that may be what you're up against.

Nothing. It's a question of supply and demand. With the Phillipine Government making it hard for maids to work in the UAE, demand, especially for philippino maids is increasing. Therefor maids get to choose which family they want to work for. Nice for them, not so nice for you. Besides, suppose you were going for a job interview, wouldn't you ask questions either? There are many weird families in Dubai, as well as families with ridiculous working hours, demands and conditions. If I was a maid I would also be very careful and picky as to who my future employer would be.

My landlord didn't give 90 days notice (two years in a row), although he's entitled to a 30% raise according to the rent calculator. We agreed on 10% raise over the last two years. He's a good landlord and we love our p,ace and know we're paying below market. Now he's just added a extra condition to the rental contract: Rent will be raised according to rent calculator. Smart guy, I guess this counts as early enough notice.

Well that is just wonderful for the non refundable hotel room that I have booked!!! If you explain, I'm sure they'll understand. Lots of people will be in the same boat, so hotels will have to be flexible. Agreed! Why should hotels be flexible?? The core characteristic of non refundable is non flexible! Especially as lots of people will be in the same boat, it will be even more difficult. Most hotels will have other bookings for the 26th. Nonetheless you can try, but don't take it out on the hotel if they refuse to be flexible. I never said anywhere that I would take it out on the hotel. I do have a back up plan for the night of the concert so do not need to transfer the nights stay. I do believe the proposed change I have put to the hotel works very much in their favour but I am yet to hear back from them. I know you didn't, apologies if suggesting otherwise. My post was directed to the other posters suggesting the hotel should understand your predicament and should have to be flexible. It would be nice if they were, but they certainly don't have to.

Resurrecting this thread as currently having the same issue, with a screaming goat instead of a sheep... Based on an experience last year, it is likely to be slaughtered under my bedroom window and hung by its feet from the clothes line... Does anyone have more recent experience? Or are people truly "exempt" from the laws in areas like Jumeirah? They may or may not be exempt, you won't know until you call municipality. It won't hurt to try and most likely they will come put an end to it.

I'm going with a small kid and am pregnant myself so I have my concerns. Even if going alone I would have a concern and would keep it in mind. Your explanation only makes your previous statement worse if you ask me.

Fully agree with SJJ. I love it here in summer. True, a lot of women leave, but I feel it's often the ones with children, so they get a chance to see their grandparents etc.. I stay here with DH, we do the GCC resident deals in a nice hotel every other week. Also most spa's have good deals, so I turn summer into a fantastic stay action. Do you ladies realise that with your working hour requirements and adding at least 2x1 hour daily commute for a live-out you are expecting them to have at least 14 hour days? 6 days a week? How much exactly are you intending to pay them? And then you want them commuting in a bus at all hours, in the dark? That's really not safe, have you thought of that? I hope they're there to clean as you can hardly expect them to watch your children with so little sleep. Either get a live-in maid, or pay a more than decent salary and add a taxi fare for safe transport. If you can't afford it, you shouldn't get a maid, as has been said so many times on this forum. Arabian Ranches moms-- if anyone has CONSTRUCTIVE advice/suggestions/recommendations to offer I'd love to hear it. I *almost* didn't post my question because I was afraid that some mental/hateful women would give me a nasty or snide response. And boy, did she deliver. Oopsiedaisy-- if you want to see the job posting and what the terms are, write me. Otherwise, please don't make assumptions about what the job is/isn't. Contrary to what you believe, I'm not looking to hire a human slave. #micdrop Contrary to what you believe I'm anything but a mental or hateful woman. Nor am I assuming anything. Picking up from what information you've given, I speak out of experience. 3 years ago I took over a maid from a family that lived in Arabian Ranches. She had been doing the live-out commute thing you're suggesting for a year and half. She was exhausted, skin and bones and very unhappy. As was the sponsor (whom I've met and talked to) because it just didn't work. Apart from the maid being exhausted, she was often late because of unreliable transport that early in the morning, and had no flexibility at all, because she needed to get home early evenings or couldn't get home at all. Our maid is now a happy, healthy and hard working lady. She lives-out and walks to our home. Her previous sponsor has a live-in.
