Maybe park is too big a word, but if you turn left after the entrance, then follow that main road towards the end and take a right. There was a large grassy area where those kids were playing football etc.

We have also been driving around in order to see if we'ld want to live in Falcon City. Saw a bunch of nannies with quite some kids (3-4 years) playing in the little park area.

The location in Abu Dhabi has a lot of super foodie items..not too overpriced depending what you're into. Thanks for the directions--I'll be checking this out Friday, hoping they also have cool stuff, like 100% cacao bars?? Yes they do! Go for it..

Good morning ladies, I was reading up on this post, looking for info on hiring a full-or part time help. Why is it that maids should be lowest on the employment scale? Yes they clean your toilets and fold your underwear. But they are in your house, know everything about you and you trust them with your children and valuables. And as for earning much more then they would in their home countries, do you ever think about what they give up? Often they come here alone, leaving behind their families and own children, to love and pick up after other people's children, only to be treated with disdain and disrespect by some obnoxious EW. Of course they are here by choice, but that doesn't give the employer the right to treat them like trash (I have been here 3 weeks now, and seen this happen several times). Well, and the help I had in our previous location certainly was not encouraging others to work as a maid. With the money she earned over the 10 years she worked abroad, she managed to support here family, get a little house in her home country, provide her husband with the money to set up his own business. She then went home and is currently putting her 2 kids through good schools in order for them not to have to work as a gardner or maid. Of course I paid her good money, but she deserved it, and I much rather give it to her, then to some charity where half the money disappears in thin air.

Do they require you to live in Sjarjah? If not, live in Dubai and commute. Traffic won't be too bad, since you will be commuting in opposite direction. DH does it every day. Takes appr. 30 min. from Sjarjah to Jum.1 You do however need a car. It will be hard to find a taxi to take you there in the mornings (as it will take them a long time to drive back in traffic).

I am in the same position. I found the "new to Dubai" section under the featured links in this page very helpful. It tells you about costs and regulations. Also there is a separate "maids forum" . Lot's of EW bashing there, but also some helpful info. Good luck to you.

Take Al Thanya Road in Umm Seqein from Al Wasl towards Sheik Zayed. Just before Sheik Zayed there is a small roundabout, go left there. Follow this road, direction Dubai. You'll find a tall black building on your left: Jones the Grocer. Extra Hint: opposite Times Square building. Have fun.

Went last week for coffee morning. Service was actually nice. 30 or so ladies ordering lattes tea and what have you, one by one, and changing spots in between. The staff kept bringing it around with a smile. Excellent selection of cookbooks, oils and vinigars on sale as well.

Dear MDL, some people are just like that. Your husband doesn't care they moved out, so leave it at that. In time all this will be forgotten. In the meantime remember all the fun visits you did have, and limit the guests to a maximum of say 1 week, and no more then one visit a month. Worked for us in our previous location.

I am one of the new posters. I don't feel addressed or offended by your post. I did ask questions, did say thank you and even contributed on stuff I knew about. Moved to Dubai 2 weeks ago and had been reading the forum in December. Did't see many people really introduce themselves, which is why I didn't. But to come to the defense of the posters you are referring to: it is just as difficult to get involved in a forum discussion as it is to socialize in real life. So you just wait a little and get involved slowly. Especially in the personal discussions! And hey, we're new here, what advice can we give you ladies as to where to get what.

Don't know about hotel apartment. Friends of mine do it, with the kids. Not as much for the cooking (do you really want to be doing that during your vacation) but for the sleeping arrangement. Plenty to do in Istanbul to keep you going for a week, but day trips to the surrounding areas can easily be organized.

Turkey is huge, so it totally depends on what you are looking for. Beaches (Antalya or Alanyia), Culture and food (Istanbul) or nature (eg Cappadocia). If you only have one week, you should probably make a choice. Feb./March will be cold in country, Istanbul would be great, beaches a bit chilly I presume.

You can still finance the total amount, provided you have a work contract for an unlimited time and the amount you need is no more then 3 times your annual salary. Estate agents will direct you to a bank, but they receive commission from their preferred bank. You are usually cheaper of by going to a bank yourself, and do bargain on interest rate! However, since the eurocrisis things have gotten a lot more difficult then they used to be, not as many mortgage banks left, and the ones that are, are on a tight leash. Best banks for consumer mortgages are ING and RABO. They should both have international desks. Like Granola says, the process is easy, however the rules have been strengthened. Oh, and make sure your estate agent is NVM certified!

Basically all sales in Amsterdam go through real estate agents. They will thoroughly guide you through the process, no worries there. Check out www.funda.nl and see if there is property you like. Then contact the agent. Usually it will be 1, maybe 2 agents selling the property. Often the buyer and seller have different agents to look after their interests . Each will pay their agent a % of the agreed sales price . Good luck.

Probably independent, haven't yet fully made our mind up. There is sooo much on the market, and it is terribly difficult to decide on a neighborhood. Anyway, thanks for your advice. Will definitely follow up on the maintenance contract.

Hi NannyMcphee, I guess you were unlucky with the villa's that were shown to you. I am new to Dubai (as well as to this Forum, hi ladies) looking to rent a Villa, and was shown some really nice ones in reasonably matured courtyards. Apparently Mazaya is releasing a bunch of villas every month, they have 3 kinds that they rent out, A1, B2 and C 1,2,3. Different sizes (and rental fees). These Mazaya's (there are some for sale as well, but with different numbers) all have pools and will remain property of the developer, whereas the DP ones are mostly sold, so you would have to deal with the landlord. Saw lot's of kids playing. Anyways, if you really like the area, don't be put of and find another agent to show you some other Villa's.
