Hi ladies! I have recently left Dubai and due to my job realised I wasn't able to return within the 6 month period in order to keep my visa running (I am on my fathers visa). So, my visa has been formally cancelled with me not being in the country. How will this effect me on my next visit? I plan to come in April....when they scan my passport it will show it has been cancelled so will I need to get the paperwork sent to me? Pay anything? Just want to be prepared! Thanks in advance!

When I lived in Dubai I spent AED600 per week for 2 adults. I recently moved back to the UK and I am living with my parents, my mum spends the same as I spent in Dubai but for 5 adults!!

Can't help you with that building, however, I lived in Global Lake View which is cluster E near to the metro station. I was really happy there and the price was reasonable....plus they have a park and shop which is my favourite place to do the grocery shop!

Not sure if this will help but in Lulu's Al Barsha there is a stand advertising a basket ball club....not sure what it is called but maybe you could pop in and speak to them.

OPMUM, The weather is beautiful at the moment, all the daffodils are out, the blossoms on the trees its lovely. There are loads of things to do in the UK for free..... you don't need money or a maid to be happy. LOL Good luck with the move. Thanks! I can't wait! I definitely think I have picked the right time of year to move back....at least I can ease myself in to the cold weather gently! Lol!

After reading the comments the general opinion seems to be that unless you are 'well off' then moving back to the UK is a silly idea.... Well....I am leaving in a week today. I am going to be living at my mum's house as I don't own a property in the UK, nor have I been able to save for a deposit whilst living here. I will be starting a job, that after tax, will be half of what I earn here. I am leaving the sun for the rain and snow in April! However, I am not happy here in Dubai and I miss the normality of life in the UK No where in this world is perfect, the UK has its faults as does Dubai. I am positive that I will moan about things in the UK just as I moan about things here. BUT, I will be surrounded by my nearest and dearest and living in a real world instead of a bubble! Money does not buy you happiness and I really don't think people should stay here if they are unhappy just because financially they will be better off or because of the material things like having a maid! ClaireHDP - reading your post about how you settled in and all the things you have been doing has got me even more excited to get on that plane and get back!! Cushion - Good luck with whatever you decide to do, but follow your heart not your head :-)

I handle it by saying "Thank you" for the service., pay the invoice, and walk away. No one can make you feel guilty about not giving a tip unless you let them. edited by Sakhifa on 18/04/2013 LIKE!! Why tip people for doing their job!? A thank you and a smile is sufficient :-)

Thanks for the advice ladies. I am 26 and have started to notice frown lines, one big one in particular to the left side of my forehead! A few people have said that I am too young and once I start I wont be able to stop but I have known of people to just have a small amount twice a year and the lines go but they dont look plastic which is exactly what I want. I have always looked after my skin but I am concerned as my mum has aged really well, most people think she is my sister and her side of the family are all the same where as my dad and his side of the family are the opposite....lots of wrinkles!!! So I don't know who I am going to take after and the frown lines are starting to bother me. I will definitely look into it and sarahlou suggested, I need to find a reputable surgeon! :-)

Welcome to Dubai :-) I would reccommend Georgie at Pastels in Jumeirah (Al Wasl Road). She is austrailian and did a fab job of cutting my hair and colours a friends hair all the time. It is hard to find a decent hairdresser here, sometimes it is a matter of shopping around until you find the right one for you! Good luck!

These are tough to find and I was looking for them to put away DDs clothes. Found it at a random kiosk at the meadows and then found out it was my new fave online store that has them! http://www.6ambabies.com/en/40-storage but only the jumbo size I think. Besides Ikea used to have them in black & while but I haven't seen them recently...have a look on ikea.com Thanks so much for the link! These are so cute too with the apples on! Much nicer than the ones in my link! Will order a couple now! :-)

The first time I went on a vacation I took my 2 cats to a cattery and when I picked them up they were moody, skinny and in general not very impressed with me at all! So, from then onwards everytime I went away I got someone to come in everyday and check on them, do the food, litter, etc. They are much happier this way. They sleep most of the day anyway so it doesn't seem to effect them by only having one person visit every day for half an hour.

I don't have children....however....my mum was always very open with us as children and if we ever asked questions she would answer them truthfully. I will never forget being 10 years old and asking her what a certain word meant because I had heard it in the playground....she told me the correct term and explained the meaning, said that it wasn't a word she wanted me to use and that was the end of that. On the other side....my step mum has always tried to steer away from her children knowing certain things and has banned certain conversations taking place infront of her children....little does she know that her 'little angels' are both doing all the things she has prevented us talking about....smoking, drinking, drugs, ***! I truly believe that you should be as open as possible with your children, or they will most likely go behind your back to find out/do it/ etc.... Good luck :-)

Al Fayrooz Lounge at Al Qasr does afternoon tea, really nice, AED150 and vouchers in the Family Entertainer. Another one that I love is at The One & Only on The Palm....AED105 but no vouchers. Apparently you can park at The Only & Only Royal Mirage and get a boat across if you are using the facilities, I haven't done it but may be nice to try :-)

Oh thanks everyone. we are actually leaving Dubai to UK about a week after he will get paid so I just hope they dont freeze it as we will only have a week max to sort it out, obviously we want to send the money immediately elsewhere but if they freeze it we won't be able to. We were with Lloyds but now it's HSBC of course. Anyone else been in that situation - leaving the country so has to be sorted quick etc ?! sorry forgot to explain that ..... lol wish us luck :) Good luck with the move! We are also moving back to the UK at the end of the month....my company are paying my final settlement in a cheque and my OH is getting his in cash....maybe worth asking if the company can do it that way rather than pay it into his bank just to be on the safe side! :-)

When I lost my previous job they didn't freeze my account and I had 2 credit cards with them. I got told that it is only if the employer informs the bank that you are no longer employed by them that they will freeze the account. If they don't say anything then the bank is none the wiser!

If you have no credit cards or loans, then it will be "easy" to close it. I wouldn't leave it open, then you have probably would have to maintain a minimum balance. Oh ok, so is it literally a case of going to the bank and asking to close the account do you know?

Can anyone tell me if it is necessary to close your bank account when leaving the country? I have no credit cards or loans and I don't pay any monthly fee's to have my account so it will literally just be left open with no money in it....is this ok or is it required to close the bank account before leaving? I have heard that closing a bank account is more hassle than it is worth hence why I am asking! TIA

Thank you to everyone for your advice! I have been thinking about this all day and I am not sure if the person would even leave the "cheater" after finding out, which makes me wonder if there really is any point in getting involved? I think I have made the decision to keep my mouth shut and just let them get on with it. However, I will aim to spend less time around the "cheater" as I know my attitude towards them will be different and obvious to people and I don't want to make things awkward for anyone.

It is family....which makes it so much harder.... My main concern is if I don't say anything and then said person finds out I knew and didn't tell them will they be upset?? If it was me I would want to know, but I suppose it is different when you are actually in the situation.

As a muslim, I think you're overreacting. Look around you, the world, including UAE, is filled with unislamic things. You didn't intend to buy something haram, so there is no sin on your part. You learn from this, possibly file a complaint with DED, and next time just be a bit more cautious about your purchases since it is something you feel so strongly about. Totally agree.

Hi Bel09, I am taking me babies home with me to the UK, so opposite route to you, but I am using Dubai Kennels and Cattery here, I am sure they have companies in other destinations that they work closely with, as once my 2 land they are then being brought to the house via another company but all arranged through DKC. Have a look on their website and send them an email, they are really helpful and professional and cover everything. They have made me feel a lot calmer about my boys travelling as I was also very worried about how they will cope. Good luck with the move!

You would probably find it easier to rehome your husband! Lol! ;-) So many cats are waiting to be rehomed in this country, let alone the ones on the street that don't have a home at all. Maybe post on the facebook pages of feline friends, bin kitty, etc. And put posters up in the vets, supermarkets. Good luck though, I hope Jack and Biscuit find a happy loving home!
