If you get sugar free is it replaced with aspartame? Also, wouldn't you have to be giving your child a huge amount of meds for sugar to be a real issue? Just curious...

Do not fly Air France if you can help it, losing bags is one thing, losing a plane is quite another. We flew with them from LA to Paris and had no screen and the seat was so badly damaged that I could have ended up with a nasty gash. Also the crew are horribly rude, never again.

You can't choose your family and life is too short to have people in it that make you unhappy. Go on holiday somewhere nice as if you mentioned that you MIGHT not come and she is slating you, make it worth it.

I got the same fine and I ALWAYS wear a seatbelt, I went to the RTA and had to see 5 different people and they removed it. The car I had at the time had the seatbelt very low so if you have black on it would look like you had no seatbelt on. The only issue was when they said - "but you have speeding fines" I replied that this is why I always wear a seatbelt! and before I get reckless driving comments from some people who appear to have got out of bed on the wall side, I am a very safe driver and the fines were in places that I didn't know the limit had changed.

Bare minerals is lovely, but hard to get out when you are running out. Also it is expensive here. Looks great though. Where can you buy Laura Mercier? I have a solid eyeliner from my wedding 5 years ago that is still fab!

Me too please, what about the person who comes to value your house, where do you find them? Is is likely they will undervalue it as I have found a lovely place but I can't afford more than the asking price

Sounds like you are doing everything right, but maybe don't buy pouches or chips so they are not even in the house as a last resort. If mt DS doesn't eat his dinner he doesn't eat, he eats lots for breakfast and lunch most days anyway. My niece has my brother running rings at dinner time coming up with 5 or 6 different dishes - rod for his own back. My issue is how to stop the nanny giving him cupcakes!

Thanks cymraes! After 12 years of renting here, I have started to think that with probably another 20 years here, buying is a good idea. We chickened out twice before! I know the build quality is not the same as in Europe, but I can't really justify renting any more... and we don't own anything anywhere and we are getting old ;)

In 12 years of 95% villa haitation i have seen nothing bar a little redback in my villa in Muhaisnah. I have had dogs so therefore have been out and about and I have lived in Mirdif and the Ranches. I am not saying these things are not here, but it seems easier to not see them than to see them. I have had a lovely pair of green parrots in my garden which are a pleasure to watch as well as the hoopoes and a neighbouring peacock! Positive thoughts people :)

I do love the idea of Honey Bees in the garden, but I am concerned that they will be eaten by Geckos and then the honey will be the Alton Towers/Hershey factory of the insect world and I'm afraid I do not have little wrist bands small enough for ant paws.

Took my DS (nearly three) to Madagascar 3 at the weekend also day three of potty training. No accidents and totally focused. Big popcorn helped. I took him to cars 2 about a year ago and he managed almost all of it bar the last twenty mins.

Plants definitely, what about colour on the walls? If it is a big villa paint the walls to make it cosy. Pictures and framed photos yes, rugs.

I don't know you, but I want to march into that school and give them an ear bashing on your behalf. My DS is three and they are unpredictable (mine more than most!) All it takes is for a tummy ache or less sleep than normal. In my humble opinion it is the school's loss!

I saw that you can go to the Moevenpick on the Palm for 100AED per day. It has beach, pool bar and pool. I haven't been but it is cheaper than most places I think. Wild Wadi is lovely now as you are wet all day so don't really feel the heat, vouchers in the entertainer. Also Dreamland is very reasonable in Ras Al Khaimah and you can camel and donkey spot on the way. If you just moved here for the first time, why not take the Big Bus tour to familiarise yourself with the area? They have deals where you can buy more than one route and get a discount. They really are very well done. Sharjah Wildlife park is nice and it's indoors, the heat does make the animals sleepy (oryx, cheetah etc) but there are plenty of animals inside like bats, birds, fish etc. Dubai mall Aquarium is great and you can do the rainforest cafe which is always fun even though the food is a bit rubbish. Early morning to the beach and sample warm sea? Apparently the brunch at IBN battuta gate (2nd reference to this brand I promise I don't work there I have just had training there!) is fab and really kiddy friendly. Welcome to Dubai, I hope you love it!

I haven't got it it is with security. They will hand it to their bosses who will turn it in to the police later today. The visa is (cringing at having to type this) housewife not allowed to work (also secretly wishing it said that in my visa ;) Still if anyone hears anything... I called the consulate and they were rather disinterested.

I am sure there are some 3 and 4 bedroom villas in JVC/JVT. I have a friend who had looked at some. There are definitely some in JVC but it just seems to be getting a bit too far away - even though next to JVT it is across Al Khail Road - if there are 3 beds in JVT that would be great, I will keep looking. It is a shame about JVT because the villas are huge and they could definitely have made them into 3 beds instead of 2! Is there nowhere you could put up a temporary wall to turn them into a 3 bedroom? I wish - JVT houses are so lovely with amazing gardens, but we have guests for 6 months a year and if we couldn't put them up we would have to return to the rain more often ;)
