My kids and I love Blokus (board game) and there are some beautifully creative games on the ipad, like 'flow free', 'where's my water?' and good ole 'tetris'. :)

I had the same problem with all my kids but noticed a huge improvement after I started getting them (and myself) the yearly flu shot. They hardly even get a mild cold anymore.

A friend of mine lives in a lovely building right next to Trade Centre called Jumierah Residences. I know they have serviced apartments there. Just check.

I often offer to drive my friends and never because I'm obliged to. I have no problem saying no but luckily the issue has never arisen since I'm blessed with wonderful friends who don't take advantage of me. If it's not convenient, I don't offer. I don't feel guilty and I have no intention of being used. And I enjoy having good company while I drive.

I've never had a problem finding parking in Satwa. I usually go before 12 noon though. The parking looks full but cars pull out all the time and I usually park very close to where I want to go.

Mini Monsters on Sh. Zayed road has a separate small play area for kids up to 3. It's easier to keep an eye on them since there are tables up close. But at 100 dirhams for 3 hours or more (aed 50 per hour), I find it a little pricey to go to often, especially with three kids.

We've had the same problem. Have gone through two vacuum cleaners in a year and a half. This time we bought the upright Hoover from Caffefour and it works wonderfully! No stress about the pipe breaking, it makes less noise and cleans just as well as any other make we've had.

I got mine from www.theentertainerme.com. There's a ten percent discount although it's still more than ordering through the National subscription. There's also a phone number on the website to contact them and I've used it once when a voucher was refused. A lovely lady took my complaint and got back to me the same day about it. I was quite impressed.

Rivington Grill in Souk al Bahar. Slightly pricey even with Entertainer vouchers. But the food is delicious! And one of the best views of the fountain in Dubai. Or Zeta just outside Calabar in The Address downtown. No vouchers that I know of although there are some for Calabar in fine dining.

Anything Dr Seuss, especially 1 Fish, 2 Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and Fox in Socks Sandra Boynton's books--Moo, Baa, La La La is well liked by both my kids LOVE Dr. Suess! 'Marvin K. Mooney, will you please go now?' :) I always read to them in bed just before tucking them in for the night but also dropped whatever I was doing whenever possible if they wanted a book read to them. I want them to love books like I do.

I moved my first two onto beds when each was about two years old. I kept a folded soft duvet next two the bed on the floor in case they rolled off. It happened a couple of times months apart but neither got hurt. I moved the youngest out of his cot after he turned three. It's been a few months. He's never fallen off even though he rolls around all over the bed the way he used to do in his cot. He was fine for the first couple of months but then he went to see Dino Live with his nursery school. After that he comes into my bed occasionally. I think it's an occasional bad dream. Not a problem since it doesn't happen very often but the other two never did it and I wonder it's because I left it too long with the littlest one.

I second Masafi. Their guy forgot to deliver one week and I called and left a message thinking 'they'll never get back to me', but the next morning they called back first thing and I had my water delivered within the hour. SO good to great service in Dubai.

It's shocking how little consideration people have. We get a notice at least once a month from the management not to throw things from the balcony but since the notices continue to come I have to assume people don't really pay attention.

They have a party package at Adventure HQ in Timesquare Centre for rock climbing. I was keeping it in mind as I have a 10 year old and need something for older boys. If I remember correctly (have a horrible memory btw) it was around aed 95 per child, including goody bags (with products or offers worth aed 250 from adventure HQ) but didn't include cake or food so you'd either have to bring food or make a trip up to the food court.

There's a back route past the Sobha Saphire that gets you onto Al Khail road heading south. There's no easy way to get onto Sheikh Zayed road heading South. Even getting onto Sh. Zayed road North is a pain as the most direct route takes you back almost to the fuel pump. The other routes either have circuits around Dubai Mall or a fast tunnel though to difc and slow turn around to Sh. Zayed.

I have a light but sturdy cot that I'm about ready to give away. It's been in use for the last three years but I've finally bought a bed to move my lo onto. Let me know if you're interested and I'll post my contact. After you're done you can pass it on to whomever you like.

My son went last year in year 3 for one night and again this year in year 4 for two nights. He loved it. Came back exhausted but thrilled to bits. I'll be sending my younger one (he's 7) for a night early next year.

I've seen them in the costume shop on the ground floor of Beach Centre (on Jumeirah Beach Road) but I don't remember the colour. Perhaps you could dye the tips black. They have a lot of art and craft supplies in the same shop so you could pick it up in the same place.

Hi. I got mine through a friend's maid. She'd worked with her for a family in Qatar previously for two years and so had some experience. She's ethiopian and came originally for USD 300 although it's a lot more after three years. I interviewed her over the phone, thought she seemed quite nice and sent for her. I saved the 5000 dirham agency fee but had to do all the running around for her visa myself. I think it was worth it. They're a lot less picky when they're out of the country and just want to work here. After they arrive, you have a month before you have to process the visa so if you're not happy, you can send them back and are out just the cost of the ticket. Talk to your friends' maids to see if they know anyone nice willing to come but make sure they understand everything the job entails and what you're offering before hand.

Not always, but I seem to have developed a great instinct for when a car is going to do something stupid. Surprisingly, the ones going extra slow seem to make more dangerous moves than the ones going very fast. Go figure.

I love my Pajero. It's my second one. I have three kids aged 3, 7 and 9 and I can fit them in plus a friend with two kids comfortably. Only the youngest is in a car seat though so I can't offer any input about having three car seats. And yes, the last row isn't comfortable for adults.

Does anyone know of a toy donation box close by? A friend found one in Meadows and donated all the toys in good condition that her kids had out grown. I'd like to do the same but don't want to go all the way to Meadows.
