Are there any good physicians that treat high blood pressure here in doha? Any personal recommendations would be highly appreciated. Ideally someone close to Al Waab- but any other area is fine too.

Is there a party supply store that may have any game of thrones party accessories? Either posters or ideally a backdrop?

DC has two locations...one in al waab and one in west bay. Perhaps the West bay one is closer to you?

I have thought of that too! I sometimes worry with that option though and would then prefer having a few parents stay for the duration of the party to keep an eye out on the children. My son just attended a party like this and absolutely loved it!

yes and yes!!! Its a small place...less traffic ..great compounds with proper backyards and great schools! We lived there for over 2 years...my kids started off in BSB and then we moved to St. Christophers. There are some nice compounds in the Saar/ Janabiya/Hamala area and rents have gone down considerably. I am sure you will enjoy it!

Hopefully you will find someone for the carpool soon :-) In case you dont, you could perhaps contact the Sherborne Parents facebook page? Posting there, might get you a better response? Are you on that? It's called SherPas Also, I have seen a facebook page called Qatar Carpool and many parents are trying to coordinate school runs..that might be an option? Hope something works out!

Overcrowding is not a huge problem these days...though i do know October will be a very FULL month since many new members have signed up...so its possible that might change. I would reccomend trying it out to see if it works for you. Im close to Aspire so the drive isnt bad. Some of the popular classes get filled up quickly and in those cases you might have to come earlier. But that being said, I have noticed this month, they have revised the schedule so that 2 of the popular classes are held at the same time...ppl have to choose one or the other and so there is no over crowding. But again, that might change. Spinning is pretty good at Aspire (I like it a lot..but I havent tried it anywhere else..so wouldnt know how to compare). There are many instructors who do spinning, and I would reccomend trying them all out to see which instructor/class/music you like better. The variety of classes is great - Spinning, Tae Bo, Rip n Lift (Weight lifting), Kettle bell, Zumba, Pilates, Yoga, Step, RIPPED, and many others etc. The other thing I like, is that they introduce new classes every few weeks, and also change the routines in the classes every few weeks. Give it a try for a month and see if you like it?

Love...the price of gas..the live-in nanny....tax savings and the Qatar Total Open (love watching the big names come here and to be able to watch them fairly upclose!.) Hate....not enough for kids to do (outdoor activities...prob because of the heat)....the wreckless driving...lack of customer service! edited by Picklz on 15/09/2013

Yes...we have visited..i thought it was really nice! I would suggest to go early though...get there when it opens at 10am. Because by the afternoon it was pretty crowded ... There are a lot of vendors...one part is in a tent (which has a few stalls of abayas etc and some food ones..like costca etc) But the main stalls are inside the main exhibition center. They have a wide variety of rugs, carpets, turkish plates, tea sets, ceramics, jewellery, wooden handicrafts, foods, sweets, spices..the list goes on. Be prepared to bargain, because prices are negotiable :-) And they only accept cash, but there is an ATM inside as well. Enjoy!

dont go by what the recorded voicemail says...they dont always update that. You could try posting on their facebook page and ask if registerations are open for the womens classes. Or just drive by. I will go there perhaps sometime next week..I could check as well and let you know.

This will not help you...but just wanted to add.. my friend had her children at Loydence...she was very happy with the academics, but not so much with the communication from the school. Since then she has switched to Awfaz global school because of location...and I know at least 2 other parents who have made the switch from Sherborne to Awfaz global school!! .I dont know know anything about Awfaz though at all..and since they made the switch I havent had a chance to talk to them about it. I always hesitate though with new schools - worry about management issues etc. I have had a friend choose Newton British al-Waab (and says its ok)...for her she views it as a temporary school till she gets place in another school of her choice.

The Ramadan timings for registration are: ASPIRE Active Ramadan Registration Hours Ladies Club: Sunday & Tuesday, 8am to 11am Sunday to Wednesday, 7:30pm to 10pm I find the facebook page very helpful...it is http://www.facebook.com/pages/Aspire-Active/248407748562922 I usually post questions there and get a response fairly quickly..within a day or so. I have never had any luck calling them.

This doesnt help...but wanted to say...just in my experience..I have met more satisfied ACS parents lately..even though its fairly new but i think a lot of parents have been happy with it. I think schooling becomes such a difficult decision...and with limited school spots there is only so much you could do. My kids go to Sherborne...and weve had some nice teachers there which really has been such a blessing, but there are several other issues with the school...if I could I would probablly move to Doha College..

Yes...the notification that went out said core working hours are 6...but in the dept meeting we were told that if you are exempt you have to finish the job for the day...so if that means staying past the 6 hours you will have to...i talked to some colleagues who have done Ramadan here before in my dept..and they say they work the same regular hours...(and by regular they mean the usual extended hours we work anyway!). Our timings are typically 7:30-3:30 but the day never ends before 4:30...

Im a Sherborne parent...and just by talking with a few friends here and there...I find more satisfied ACS parents than I do Sherborne parents..(just my observation). I think Sherborne has had a lot of teething problems...and even though ACS is new too..I dont think they have had as much. Also, things keep changing at Sherborne...like the last day of school we were told that the curriculum for Year 3-9 will change for some subjects to the 'Independent Curriculum' but for Maths and English it will be 'Curriculum of New England and Wales'. I dont know what the differences are...but just to say..things change here from year to year...term to term.. We had a change in school timings in the middle of the year as well...from 1:35 to 2:10pm...makes it hard for working parents who have made arrangements etc. (but it was to battle the traffic on the road and it helped)... Teacher turnover has been high in Sherborne as well. This is just my obervations and opinions :-) Hope this helps!
