I thought of that...we hold US passports...friends child holds South African. But this is just one incident I know of personally. Have heard of others as well. I realize that about DESS -since its sponsored by the British Emabssy. Makes sense.

Thanks Maple for the suggestions! I think I will call them/text. I already gave an invite card last week and sent an email reminder on Thursday. I have about 8 responses. And another 8 to go! :-)

SoI went to Lush...got a bit confused though to which one to buy? They had 4 colors of henna...black, dark brown, red and another one? My hair color is more dark brownish/black. I have white hair strands that i was hoping could get a little tinge of color with the henna. The lady there suggested I get a red color first and then a brown one if i wanted a good color? But Im worried with the 'red' henna! ;-) Which one did you buy?

Hi Maple... How did the RSVP turn out? Im now in the same boat as you...though I do have a parent class list with contact numbers (circulated to all parents)...but have only received a few responses. Should I assume the others wont come? Or should I call the remaining parents to find out? Need to make goodybags this week..so really need a headcount. What did you do?

Palm City Gardens And another one I saw recently but cant remember the name of...but if I do will post here... Btw...I also wanted to see Beverly Hills Garden 1 ...but since there was no availabilty I wasnt able to see any villas...how did you manage to see them? kiwispiers: Havent really seen anything with grass! Excpet Palm City Gardens had some 3 bedrooms....and a decent garden but were upwards of 12000. If any come to mind will let you know. We just drove around on the weekend to see what was available....that being said we still havent found soemthing that we loved! Good Luck!

Thanks Dan Lou for the links..have looked them up ! Linda Dee: I have heard of Chocolate Fish parties and saw their facebook page...but I think you need a venue where you can host...unfortunatley we are still in a hotel/serviced apt...so dont have any place of our own! Thanks for all your suggestions!

By outside venues I just meant somewhere other than my home...doesnt necessarily need to be outdoors! We havent moved into a villa -still in temp housing so dont have any means of hosting something at home! Dan Lou....I havent read your earlier post..but have been following you on Maple's post about birthday party ideas! And I must say we are both very much alike! I love hosting birthday parties ...love having a theme..kiddy food and I also enjoy making cakes...Unfortunatley my shipment hasnt arrived and we have just recently arrived in Doha (2 weeks)....so cant really do anything. Im almost debating of not doing anything..just sending donuts into school...but if I can manage something outside then I will try!

Just wanted to see if there were some nice party venues in Doha. I was hoping for something less chaotic than Mcdonalds :) but something entertaing and fun. We haven't moved into our villa yet... So can't do anything in a clubhouse. Want it outside somewhere... This is for a boy turning 7.

Dont know if you've already explored this option but thought I would post in case: As I was driving today I saw a small school bus with this name on it: 'Qatar Autism Center and Special Needs'. The website listed was as www.qacsn.com and the ph no I got down was 44643711. I hope its the right number...the bus has stopped at the light and I tried to take it down as fast as I could. Hope this is of some help!

Thanks for your replies. I havent visited the Pearl as Im guessing it will be out of our price range...but I guess its worth looking at atleast! We do like the feel of a compound though...and since I have two small kids would really like being in a compound. Kimmc2 -thanks! Do you know any place where I can find pics of the Messilah compound? Will try and visit it too.

I am in a similar situation as you -soon to be a Sherborne parent! My dh works in West Bay and kids at Sherborne....so we are thinking of the Al-Waab area. We have also looked at Al Fardan Garden 5 and have really liked the compound. The only thing for us was the rooms seemed a little smaller than what we currently have and none of the bathrooms had bathtubs and my kids love a bath once in a while..so i had really hoped one of the bathrooms had a bath tub....but everything else is really great in the compound. Also if you want an idea of the Beverly Hills Al Rayaan there is a facebook page with lots of pictures of the compound, facilities, etc. Worth looking at! I will try posting the link here...not sure if im allowed to...but will give it a try: http://www.facebook.com/#!/media/albums/?id=206059542737439 Good Luck!!!

I moved from the US to Bahrain without ever visiting it. DH had seen it though. However when I came to Bahrain I told dh within the first month 'If I had done a look and see visit I may not have moved to Bahrain'..did not like it initially at all. Having said that...I have lived 2 years in Bahrain and dont want to leave it now! Its a small place that I have grown to love! Small island and lots of friendly ppl! We are now moving to Qatar in 2 weeks. I did do the 'look and see' this time!! But didnt feel it THAT much different than Bahrain. Obviously bigger and more traffic. But similar in many respects. I think if you are moving from the US or UK for the first time to the Middle East, its good to do a small visit. Just gives you a sense as to what to expect. It is very differernt. If you are moving within the GCC I dont think its that much of an adjustment (IMHO). That being said, I think once a person moves and the initial hurdles are over and one has settled in - you kind of get used to it. :-) Good Luck!

Thanks everyone for your replies! Will show them to dh. DH (and myself) have a US licence and a Bahraini licence....and I think dh entered on a temp work visa or business visa. He will go into work tomorrow and ask as well there. But I guess he might have to go and get a temp Qatari driving licence for now. And then wait for the RP to get his permanent one. And I will have to do the same once I arrive. Hopefully the US or Bahraini liscence can be converted easily... Baffled: Thanks for adding that this is 'part and parcel of Qatar'....I think I needed this reminder...when dh told me this happened this morning...I said to him 'this move wont be easy -will it'... I remember when we first moved to Bahrain from the US 2 years ago....there were also quite a few hurdles...but once you settle down you kind of get used to them or forget them!!!

My dh rented a car today from the airport and the lady there said you can only drive the rental for 2 weeks if you dont have your RP. I think the RP will most likely take a month or more to get...what should we do in the meanwhile? Anyone been in a similar situation?

Hi... I know it has been asked before (and I did do a search before posting...but for some reason I am getting a runtime error when I search)...but....wanted to know if anyone can reccomend any realtors in Doha? I had emailed Erika (Nelson Park Property) earlier in July and she suggested contacting her when we were in Doha to actually see the villas...but my dh is in doha now and she is actually on holiday till Sept. Is there anyone else you reccomend? Either from the same company or any other? I was really hoping my dh could see some villas before we got there in Sept. TIA!

Completely agree with your motto Lexiej! We give our maid in Bahrain 150 bd (which is about 1500 QR) plus some extra off and on. The range here varies too...but i guess its the same in Doha.

Thanks soo very much ccdoha!!!! You've been amazing! DH called his company to get details...and as it turns out they had a mix up and booked us in a 1 bedroom..and then DH said we need a 2 bedroom ( have 2 kiddos as well)..then Bev Hills had no other rooms available! So now we are booked in Somerset Doha. And I was able to find their website and will get more details by calling them. Thanks so much for your help!!!
