We travelled to Tanzania back in October and we forgot to take out yellow fever vaccination records. Nobody checked them. I believe ( but not 100%) that yellow fever vacs are recommended but not compulsory... correct me if i'm wrong though

I also started to notice that there are quite a few adverts on Dubizzle stating that the rent is only for 6 months or only one year.

I used to live in Switzerland and one of my swiss friends used to do the raclette cheese in those square thingies underneath with chilli and garlic on top then once it melts, put it on warm new potatoes - together with grilled meat and veg from the top of it, it was delicious! Its also such a great and social way of dining. Enjoy!

My friend has just come back from Thailand and loved it. It was called PhuketFit and I believe it was very reasonably priced. She said it was 800 dollars per week which included all the food, accommodation, personal fitness instructor, yoga, massages etc.

I don't understand why Regent has a bad reputation. Ok admittedly it was the one of the few schools that could take my kids when we arrived here 2 years ago, but we are happy with it. My kids love school and I would not move them now. My kids are very young, so I have no experience of the older years. edited by spudz on 24/09/2013 I don't really understand either. All the parents I talked to like it here too. I just ignore it tbh, it takes 2-3 people to post something negative on the forum and then everyone will follow making it out to be a lot worse than it it. I personally would not move your child based on forum recommendations.

My both are in Regents and they are extremely happy. One of them is in reception. You will only get a genuine help from parents who have put their kids to both of those schools, which is very unlikely. It is up to you, but you have to consider if your child will take this school change well. My two would be very upset if they had to leave middle term, but yours might be different.

What does everyone do with young kids if you want to do something with your hubby? We have no friends or family here (yet) but read here something about a "child care centre." I prefer the idea of a centre (as long as staff are well trained). Alternatively can else can we do? And can anyone recommend a centre or someone they know? Tia. We use Busy bees babysitting services.

Hi there, we are going to Tanzania with our two children next month ( age 4 and 5). Al Mankhool health center provides yellow fever vaccination and malaria tablets. You do not need to book an appointment, just turn up between 8am and 2.30pm. We havent had out injections and tablets yet, so cannot advise of the level of service or anything like that. Not sure how old your child is, but I wouldn't worry too much. https://www.travelhealthassist.com/travel-health-clinic/Arab-Emirates/Dubai/419 Thanks, my son is 17 , goes to UAS, they have a school trip Oh I wouldnt worry then, it looks like a beautiful place and he will have such a good time!I wish my school trips were as extravagant when I was in school as they are here :)

Visit Al Mankool Travel Clinic, open Sunday thru Thursday 7.30-1.30. I suggest you get there early as it gets busy later on! I called them yesterday and they gave me different opening times?... Oh well, I think the best thing is to turn up as early as possible as you said

OK, how come this was the first time the LL visited the property in the last 5 years? Have there been any property reports given to the LL by the property management company in the last 5 years? If the property visit reports have been sent to the LL and she just didnt look through them, than I'm afraid, there is not much she can do. If none of the reports have been issues ( which I find it hard to believe), how come the LL never requested them and never wished to visit the property in such a long time? If the LL still believes strongly that the company has neglected the property, they would need to file a complaint with the management and request some sort of compensation. These companies have funds on the side for this purpose only. I also agree with Fiat500, 5 years is a long time for a rental, so you would need to re-decorate the place anyway. I cannot help with the solicitor, sorry

The painters we spoke to were a little clueless about how to paint with it. Does it need a coat of dark primer first? Has anyone done this and can offer me tips, please? You would only need to clean the wall and fill in any cracks - maybe even sand out the uneven areas. Shouldn't need a primer for a wall - only for glass, metal surfaces. Also, it is recommended to leave the wall to dry out for 3 days after painting.

We got our 5 year old a Nexus tablet and it's great for what he needs. He has had it for more than 6 months now and had no issues. The good thing about it is that with Nexus you can get free apps without having to register unlike the Itune site leaving less chance of large credit card bills ;)

BA would be the last carrier I would book with, based on their strikes, they cant be trusted.... such a shame they do not consider their customers as important, they dont deserve our custom... Couldn't agree more! It's not just strikes or flight cancellations, the inflight customer service is rubbish as well. I only fly BA if I have no other choice.

Here is the recipe. I am now in Egypt, the land of Um Ali . Will do it next week and see what the crowned will say ! Umm ali is a favourite during ramadan. I have a no-fail, easy recipe that literally takes 10 mins to prepare and 10 mins in a hot oven. 5 jumbo croissants Handful raisins Handful pistachios 750ml milk 250ml cream Can sweetened condensed milk 3rd cup rose water In a pot put milk, cream, condensed milk.bring to boil. Meanwhile tear croissants into pieces into an oven proof dish. Scatter nuts and raisins over top. Once milk mixture is boiling, add rose water. Pour over croissants. Put in hot oven till golden on top. I challenge you to taste nicer umm ali, really! Can I use something else instead of rose water? I am really not a fan, but this recipe is something I would love to try edited by Pipititimous on 12/07/2013 I have used orange blossom water as a change with good results. edited by mrsb. on 12/07/2013 Great idea! That's rubbish. When we were meant to fly BA a few weeks ago from Heathrow to Dubai, we got a sms stating that the flight was cancelled the minute we pulled over the airport car park. They offered us a hotel accommodation and a first morning flight with Emirates including evening dinner, breakfast and bus fairs. There was one the same evening, but we didnt have the time left for checking in and boarding as we had loads of suitcases and 2 kids. It's rubbish that they cannot offer you with a decent alternative.

I am sorry to hear you are having problems with your current tenants. I used to work as a property manager and unfortunately some of the tenants can be awful. If you are unable to claim arrears from the tenants' deposit, you should contact your insurance provider. Its a long winded process but I have seen many Landlords who managed to recover at least a percentage of the rent. Do you rent through the agency? If so, why have the agency not provided you with 6 monthly property inspections? The reports should have mentioned the damaged caused and make you aware of the situation before it got this bad. The tenant legally has to provide access for viewings, so you should be putting your foot down with this aspect. If they refuse or do not respond to your requests, the agency can let themselves into the property using spare keys before the 36 hour visit letter is sent out to the tenants warning them that agents will be visiting. The laws are very complicated and unfortunately, LL still get shafted by the tenants a lot of the time causing lots of stress and money... again sorry this has happened to you

Best buys: electric swing chair which helped to get my kids sleep especially when you need to get something done. Worst buys: baby bath - never used it. Chest of drawers with a changing area on top - we ended up just changing the nappier either on the sofa or the floor using travel changing mat. Nappy bins - it was amusing at first, but ended up using normal bin after a few days.

I drive. Just thinking of some friends who don't. In that case, it is the same thing just that some one else does the driving for you. Which I actually prefer :) I occasionally arrange trips at the spur of the moment just for the fun of it and they enjoy it. But in between they have to scheme and schedule and stick to pretty rigid plans and stress from all the logistics. Gets me exhausted thinking of it. Phew. I'm not sure I follow you... I think driving your own car is sometimes more stressful as far as planning and logistics is concerned. I dont need to worry that I get lost if I am going somewhere new and I dont worry if my tank is full for the trip ahead. All I have to do is come outside and wait for 1-2min for the taxi to appear and take me places. But again, I am not sure if you are referring stress to owning a car or if its completely another topic

I suppose it depends where you live. I suppose you're right. Are there times when you just want to drop everything and just escape the house for half an hour, get some fresh air, sip a glass of cold iced-tea, watch the world go by.... then only return to the four walls? What do you do instead? I am sure it is normal to feel this way sometimes. How long have you lived in Dubai? Do you have any friends yet who would take you out of the house?

I suppose it depends where you live. I use taxis now because it is too hot to walk to the metro station with kids, but in winter months, I plan on walking as much as I can and use metro. I live in what I consider a good location, shop is 7min, school 5 min walk and metro about 10-15 min walk.

I have done it a few time back in the UK but it is really easy providing you get the good quality paint. Firstly use a sandpaper to roughen the surface - you dont have to remove all the varnish or anything, just to make the surface rough for the primer to stick. I then used a spray primer and covered all the furniture lightly. I then used a spray paint to paint the furniture in a required colour. I have used other paint that are cheaper than spray pain, but to be honest, the finished effect is not as good. Good luck! If you are looking for a french chic look, then I think you should use a brush to paint it, but I am not sure as I have never done this particular way of painting. edited by Pipititimous on 27/06/2013

DH was told it would take 8-10 days for his visa to be sorted. He was supposed to be coming back to the UK briefly to finish some business and see me and our DD before returning back to Dubai. The appointment for the medical seemed to come through later than expected but he had this a week last Tuesday. They told him at the appointment that it is usually 2-3 days but that it is currently running at 5 days. Still no passport today. It's been just over 3 weeks since he started the process. How long did your's / DH's take? Have you tried calling the medical center? I didn't get a text from them stating that my medical certificate was done so assumed that it must have taken longer for some reason, but called them this morning and it is done and waiting for me to pick it up. My husband got his work visa in 5 working days

Hubby did it a few months ago. It is really easy, all you need is a letter from employment stating that the employee might have to travel to Isreal with work and that he needs a second passport. We did it through UK ( I filled out the paperwork) and the new passport arrived less than a week after. You need to fill in the renewal passport application ( there are no applications for second passport) but you need to mention at the end of it that this is for the second passport and not for renewal. Just to add that you have to include the original passport with the application form and the letter from eployer edited by Pipititimous on 26/06/2013

It depends on your husband's profession I suppose and your nationality. If you are in the European Union than it would be probably easier to move to the UK. I personally would move to Australia for a more laid back kind of style of life. However, it has become more expensive to live Australia if you are concerned about the financial aspect of life only. I am not sure what the process of immigration of entering the UK is( for people outside the EU) , but the whole journey to immigrate to Australia can take anything from 6 to 18 months.

Is this for tourist/visit visas or residence visas? Its for the residence visa. The thing is, my husband will be travelling with us together from UK to Dubai. He has the original and I have the copy. Last time when I visited on tourist visa, they didnt even have the original on their system ( even though it has been dropped off) and the copy was sufficient. edited by Pipititimous on 01/06/2013
