Sorry for my late response the holidays and having family over kept me away from my computer. I have not taken the Praxis II yet, but plan to at the end of this month. I found these links very useful so check them out and see if they might help you. https://quizlet.com/6050832/praxis-ii-plt-flash-cards/ and this E-BOOK https://en.wikibooks.org/w/index.phptitle=Contemporary_Educational_Psychology&stable=1

Thanks so much ! I found the post and will make enquires once the holidays are over. would be nice to meet for sure, I live in the Al Barsha area but we could work something out . I often go to the city Centre mall in Mirdif too. The Teach -now is 9 months-1 year depending on when you join and school breaks. George Mason sounds like a great package are there any professional state board exams required?

Hi UmmSalah, thanks for you response, I am doing the TEACH- NOW program. I agree school don't want to compromise so this makes it quite difficult . I will look into the school you mentioned, will they hire without an actual teaching credential ? I will be happy with an unpaid trainee position as long as I am meeting my clinical requirements. I haven't heard about the George Masons's Fast Train, will look it up but I choose Teach Now because it a rigorous program and quite intensive . The teach now programs also provides you with a mentor if you can't find one in the school where you get placed . I wouldn't mind a TA position as long as I get support from the school with my teaching practice. I am afraid I might have to put my studies on hold if I can't find a place soon .

Thanks for your response. I have approached some schools directly but they were unresponsive. The college provides you with an introduction letter and will contact the school. Just haven't found one that will accept a trainee teacher .

I feel a similarity in what happened in UK and whats going on in US. There is a surge in sentiment to separate people on one ground or the other. Tag as it is convenient to suit your gains. I feel sorry for the increasing divide among societies. You hit the nail on the head . I just had this conversation with my DH yesterday and we both agreed that the US is going through the same thing right now. I wont be surprised if Trump wins the election. So much hate and distrust being spread around the world . Where is the love gone

well I think sentiments have more of a hand in the votes than anything else , my main concern here is that truly no one knows what will happen next , new referendum for Scotland? that seems to be in the air . one thing is clear though this decision will make or break the UK. The results do show that there is indeed a big divide..

It's funny, I was just thinking the other day how much nicer it is on here now compared to a few months ago. Whilst I am never a fan of out and out nastiness and picking on people, the debates on here are what keeps things interesting and keeps people logging in and posting. I know I wouldn't bother looking in just to answer people's questions on where to find hot sauce and the best place to shop. Daza, yes I do understand that people debate about things on here and my post is just to draw attention to those who log on just so they can say something nasty or pick on others just for the fun of it. Like Cheeky Monkey, I've been here a number of years and newbies like yourself regularly come on to tell us off for not playing nice.. Well, I find that accusation unfair and simply not true...To be honest, I think a passive aggressive thread like this is no better than the comments you complain of !! As with real life, if there are people or opinions you don't like, simply ignore them..much better for the blood pressure !! lol. There is nothing passive aggressive about this thread and this thread is not meant to accuse but to ask people to just be kind sometimes. I think though that if newbies keep coming here and telling the old hands off then there must be some truth to what they say also just like you said if someone post something you don't agree with let it be if you can't then share your views but it does not need to become a war of word.

Daza hit the nail on the head - that's why people log on. That's what keeps it lively. To be fair pixxydixxy - you don't know why people log on. I don't think you would find many people here who really do just log in to be a b*tch. There have been times when people have had a go at something I've said - most times I've been able to say to myself "fair point - I didn't think about it like that". Other times, I know I just have a genuine difference of opinion with another poster - that's life.. I don't I know why people log on, and I do feel that this is a great forum, taking what you said it does happen and people take things out of context sometimes but on other occasions people do say hurtful things .

really? so if we disagree with what you write we are a bully? if we think that you have made bad choices we should say nothing except "there, tehre dear"... What nonsense.[/quote This is how I choose to respond to you Izzy .When people give me an attitude, I don't have to give it back to them in their own coin. Perhaps they deserve it, but I remember that their attitude defines them and my reaction defines me. edited by pixxydixxy on 26/01/2015 edited by pixxydixxy on 26/01/2015

Now why do people here feel the need to often give unsolicited advice. none of you know the exact situation of the OP's friend . she didn't ask for advice. if you cant help then don't respond.

Newsflash: it is not just Dubai that discriminates, or whatever you want to call it. Every place discriminates. It's just that in some countries it is illegal to be upfront about it! Agree there are some real creeper ads in the paper. Well I am sure those countries who have made it illegal did so for a reason. [b'>I don't know what you call it, but to me it is discrimination and very blatant.[/b'> Maybe when there is a law against it then those creeper ads can be done away with . I would not call every instance of preference expressed openly by an employer here discrimination. There are many facets. Regarding looks and submitting photos: Some companies want a certain "look" in order to maintain brand continuity. You see this a lot in front office and sales staff positions. Superficial, yes. Discriminatory? IMO, not necessarily. In other cases where employers specify nationality, sometimes a specific nationality or native speaker of a certain language is the best fit, if not necessary for the position. This has nothing to do with discrimination. while I may accept that the racial stereotyping by employers may not be absolute . It is still done openly and more often than not it's not about what language you can speak or if you are a native speaker of some language, you can specify your language requirements for a particular position without resorting to stating Nationalities that should not apply. However almost every job ad here requires a native speaker so .... Also the dubai CV must have a photo why is that ? every position is not in front office or sales but I have seen where it say CVs without photos will not be considered.

But it's so much easier to play the discrimination card than to actaully think you may be the issue. Haha! Izzy I am not going to bite. Don't make this about something else. what Issue can one have have when you can't even apply for the job advert in the first place ?

Add to that, the adverts that ask for thin, beautiful applicants aged 18-25 and only CVs with full length photos will be considered. I once saw a vacancy that required a female PA that had to be 'slim in body, able to travel with the director, open minded but private'. . I have applied many times and they have seen my CV maybe even considered it, and then next thing is send us a photo:angry: what do they need a photo for? looks wont do the job, unless they are looking for something else. Which I suspect some are.

You must be new here, pixxydixxy. This is not about discrimination; it's about the 'bottom line'. Fact is, in this particular part of the world, different nationalities command different pay grades. This is why it's difficult for perfectly capable westerners to find office admin jobs in the UAE; it's much cheaper to employ someone from India/Philippines than it is to employ someone from South Africa/UK/Australia/NZ/etc. It may be annoying, but until legislation is introduced to stop it, it will continue to be a thing. Smart, educated and experienced one may be, but why would a company choose you over someone to whom they can pay half the salary? To do otherwise is bad business practice, discriminatory though it may be. . edited by LadyBee on 06/11/2014 LadyBee, Yes I am new :-) and still getting used to all that Dubai is. I think that it is absolutely wrong , and really don't care how good of a business practice it is. It may be better to state what you are paying and let those who are qualified for the job apply irrespective of where they are from.

minkymunky I am right there with you on this . I am getting so frustrated with the whole job hunt thing . It is almost like a full time job for me now except that I get paid nothing . Being on my husband's Visa has not proven to be of help so far and there are not that many temp jobs out there. I am hoping that something happens soon it really is depressing. I though I was in the land of dream jobs

We love it here! It is an amazing community, especially for children. We have our own park where you can run, ride a bike, enjoy a walk in the cooler months. There's s park and shop,, a choitram, a Carrefour and a spinneys in dip itself, so no need to drive out of the community for grocery shopping. Our biggest grudge here is the rip off Emicool. Is is expensive! Also our house is not in the gratest shape and we keep on spending money to fix things ever since we moved in in february, so do pay attention to that. :) Are you a member of the NaS Facebook group ? There should be one for your year. The drive to the school is a breeze now as there is no traffic , even though that should change once all the schools start. Driving back is longer as you have to drive all the way to the next traffic light on hessa road to be able to go back on 311 . Thanks Eli for the info, I am just a bit nervous as we are already drawing up and signing the contract. we fell in love with it as soon as we saw it, hoping to move in by mid september. Are they any specifics you would suggest to look out for when we go back to the house tomorrow ? while I worried about the distance to work for my hubby who will be working in the Bur area , we are willing to make that sacrifice if it means the kids living in a community where they can ride their bikes , play at the park and meet other children. The Emicool issue I have seen mentioned doing searches online but there is chance the company will pick up that bill as well, if so we are good but if not we will have to pay. I have joined the NAS Facebook Group also. thanks again

The trip is not that bad. Why not contact the school and speak directly to them, they will be aware of how many kids are coming from that area, school bus requests and have access to a messaging system where they could put your message out if looking for a lift share. Thanks Lolacat, I will call the school today to make enquiries We live in gcw and my son will be going to Fs1 at NAS. Actually i have posted the exact same question on the green community ladies fb page a couple of days ago:) . Which school year will your child be attending? edited by Eli1979 on 28/08/2014 Hi Eli1979 , my kids will be in years 2 and 5 . Did you get any response from the ladies? I haven't been accepted into the group yet so still can't post there. Also I will be grateful if you can share any pros and cons of living in GWC Thanks pixxy

Thanks RH1977 and KJT for your replies, we have just been told that the villa is already taken, quite saddened by this news as it means the search continues , we would like a villa in a compound with gym and pool if anyone knows of anything coming up soon or that is available right away in this area please kindly let me know. This was the first one the kids liked and they are quite disappointed :-(

Hi Gwenny I have moved my children from another school here in Dubai to NAS. Here are some of the reasons: Staff have been transparent from the beginning. Regular updates on Facebook about the building, it's ahead of schedule. There is no guessing game as to when and if it will open. 20 children max in a class, large classrooms with lots of light coming through Carefully selected staff, you can read about each staff member on NAS's Facebook page School offers a variety of relevant languages for native and non native speakers Open and honest communication with parents and children A school that is academically strong but looks at the whole child by offering a wide variety of after school activities. NAS has a community feel ( via Facebook page) and has not opened yet. My family lived in China for a long time. There were 2 British Schools run by Nord Anglia in the city I lived in. They were both outstanding on every level. The current Principal and his immediate team ran the British School in Beijing, it was one of the top schools in the city. Note: I am not a staff member or affiliated with the school in any other way except as a parent whose children have been lucky enough to be accepted into the school. I know how hard it can be choosing a school in Dubai and thought you may like to hear another opinion. Good luck with your decision. I do agree with Mares . My family and I are moving to Dubai in August and had been contacting most of the supposed established and good school the past few weeks . I must say the communication, ease and comfort I felt dealing with the NAS team helped me make a quick decision to accept the places offered for both my kids. Most of the other schools I contacted never got back to me even the ones where I had payed the grand 1000 dhs per child registration fees. NAS has a great feel all around. I am pleased with what I have seen so far and believe that although its a new school they are starting off on the right foot . can't wait to see what it's like when school finally starts . edited by pixxydixxy on 27/06/2014
