Have you tried Widad Learning? They are in Jumeirah just behind the Shangri-La Hotel. They come under the Ministry of Social Affairs not KHDA. The currently have 22 students but room for up to about 120. They follow a US curriculum called Oak Meadows. They have a lot of mainstream students and some children with varying degrees of special needs. They offer different levels of support and the pricing reflects this going from 35 - 80K a year depending on the support needed. 0509127916 Also Oasis School, close to Safa Park, is very much a mainstream school ( British Curriculum) which includes children with special needs. They have OT and SLT support and nice small classes. www.oasisschool.ae 043881388 edited by plum2 on 07/12/2013

I would definitely choose Victory Heights over Regent School. Although it is a new school it has excellent staff. Nice smaller classes at the moment and close to lots of good housing options.

If you are short of time just use the VIP service at the Safa Park Clinic. It costs a little more but you can pick up the results later the same day.

Try and return them. Ask to speak to the manager. You may be surprised. I returned a bra yesterday to Victorias Secret. I had no receipt. The underwire was just starting to poke through in one place. Even though I admitted washing the bra in the machine (they recommend hand washing) she still offered to replace it. Great service.

Any idea how much you'd want for it and I'll ask her if she's interested. I'm sure a case would cover the scratches wouldn't it? (says mum struggling on with her old iPhone 2!!! Maybe I could buy it for myself!) edited by plum2 on 30/11/2013

Bpage, the Nicholas and Asp training School mentioned is a training school. The clients (mainly children) are treated by post-graduate student orthodontists under the supervision of consultants. Both my children had braces through them and they were excellent. I think we paid 6K each child, all incl but I believe that has gone up to 8K. Still a bargain!

I went to MOE and the girl said I am a 34 C. Went inside the fitting room and the lady said I am 32D. I went to La Senza after that and the lady there said I am a 34 D. Tried out some bras there and for balconette (?) ones, I am a 34D and a 32 D for the regular ones. I decided to check out the VS at Dubai Mall as well. Lady told me I am a 32 D and gave me a bunch of them to try on. None of them fit me correctly! -.- I did fall in love with this "balconette" strapless one but most of my boobs were out (even though the band felt just right) so didn't buy that one. Btw, I tried the one in size 32D. Honestly speaking, I doubt whether any of these mass produced bras can fit anyone perfectly. So any idea where can I find customized bras in UAE? Did you let the VS staff check and adjust the fit of the bras on you? They have so many different styles and are so good at advising and adjusting bras that I am surprised they couldn't help you.

http://whichschooladvisor.com/ If you are looking for long term then look at the schools that are achieving the highest IB scores in the UAE. In looking at IB diploma scores you are looking at 15 years down the track (if you have small children)! A lot can happen in that time. Schools that are new to the IB system now may take a while to develop the knowledge and expertise and typically scores improve as staff become more familiar with the system and what is expected.

I know it is far from New Dubai but Uptown School in Mirdif follows the IB programme right the way through Primary and secondary. Repton School offers the IB Diploma in years 12 and 13 Similarly JESS at the Ranches only offer IB for years 12 and 13

Yes there is an insurance office at the border. We got insurance there in Feb this year. To cross through the border we needed evidence of insurance and the car registration card. It's about an hour to hour and a half to RAK, depending on which part of Dubai you are coming from. Probably half an hour to the border. No idea how busy the border will be on a Sat morning. It was v quiet when we went midweek and they weren't exactly speedy! From the border to Khasab is about 40 mins from memory. edited by plum2 on 21/11/2013

I would absolutely agree with your decision to hold him back for a year. His whole education will benefit from this and he will be in a much stronger position academically. Otherwise, in a British School, he will be have to start learning to read and write when he is just 4 - too young in my opinion. There are many nurseries which take children from 4-5 and some even up to 6 so you will have no problem finding a place for him.

Hi Janatks, Lots of views but noone coming on here to reassure you. They can't really as they don't know the details of your case. You should take comfort from the fact that the medical centre are being proactive and following up a possible concern. It may turn out to be nothing but at least you will know tomorrow. It is easy to say, but try not to worry because it won't change anything. Yes, if it is not a pre-existing condition then I would expect most insurance companies would cover any necessary treatment. Mine does not cover mammograms (screening) but would cover any treatment I am sure. Fingers crossed for you tomorrow. :)

Irooni I can't comment on Repton as no experience there but I have NEVER heard of a DESS child leaving DESS to move to Repton as you stated happens. I have heard of movement the other direction but not DESS to Repton. I personally know of 2 families each with 2 children who moved from DESS to Repton so it does happen. edited by plum2 on 14/11/2013

I didn't mean to be unhelpful. The 'daytrip' sounded like a day out but then being stuck at the airport sounded strange. If you had said you were doing a visa run it would have made more sense :) I am glad you got to spend time at the Chedi - it's beautiful hotel. I agree, lunch and a peaceful few hours at the Chedi beats doing a Hatta visa run anyday!

i don't think that the road to Salalah from Muscat is as bad as Genie makes it sound. But it is a long and quite boring drive. I wouldn't rush to do it again but it was nice to have the car to visit all the various sights once we were down there. We did the trip about 8 years ago and generally the roads throughout Oman have been improved in recent years but I could be wrong. There are about 3 guest houses along the way (and not a lot else) where people break the trip. We left Muscat late afternoon and drove for about 5 hours till we stopped at a guest house about 9pm, had dinner and went to bed. It was basic but clean and adequate. We got up, had breakfast and left and were then in Salalah by lunchtime the next day. I can't remember the name of the place we stayed. I would have to look at a map. I dont remember thinking it was a dangerous drive - just tedious. We had small children at the time and got heartily sick of the two tapes of kids songs we had with us!

I cannot really understand this. You say you are going to Muscat, but only to the airport? It sounds a strange sort of a trip. Why can you not go with your husband to wherever he is having his meeting and just have a wander about and see something of the city? Muscat is like Dubai in that most areas would be very safe for you to walk around by yourself.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'proper schooling'. FS1 is very much a play-based curriculum but FS 2 generally covers the introduction of phonics and children learning to read and write. What is expected of them in British Curriculum Schools is a lot. I think you are definitely best to let your son start FS 1 when he is almost 4. He will be in a much stronger position then. My son is the same with a mid September birthday. He was bright enough to have gone ahead a year but socially he would have struggled as he approached his teenage years. He was much better off being one of the oldest in his year. It also means they are more mature when they finally leave home and head off to Uni or wherever - I know that may seem light years away now but it comes round so fast!

A drive out to Bab Al Shams for sundowner drinks on the rooftop is beautiful. I think they may have started a minimum spend there now. It is great for visitors though as they have camels to ride in the sand and falcons flying which you can hold.
