Is there any way that together you can contact her doctor back home and get clear details of what medications she should be taking and when? I spent a month with my 86 year old father in the summer. He has very early Alzheimers (really just memory loss) and asthma. His asthma had got so bad that he was needing to use a nebuliser twice a day and he had several bad attacks in the night, one where we had to call an ambulance. I truly thought that he didn't have long to live. It transpired that, due to his memory issues, he was really not sure what medications he should be taking and when. Once I saw his doctor and clarified things (and wrote out and laminated all the medication schedules) the difference was amazing. He hasn't needed to use the nebuliser since and tells everyone I saved his life! Medications are powerful but need to be taken in the right way and at the right time. My advice would be to check that she is taking everything as she should be before trying anything new. It is so hard to se our parents grow old and even worse to see them in pain. Wishing you all the best.

Hi You are obviously taking some time out of the workforce at the moment with small children but once your two are at school and, should you decide to go back to work, I would imagine you would be extremely attractive to employers, being two teachers in a family. Getting through the next few years will be tough though on that package. How long a contract did he sign?

What about the school(s) where you did your practical work? They would know you and are maybe more likely to offer you supply work. The more supply work you do, the more likely you are to be offered a full-time job. Good Luck!

How many children do you have and what are their ages? There is a big difference between primary and secondary school fees. I have 2 at high school and we pay out over 12K a month in school fees. Not sure if Buymeapony is still around but i think she did a very good spread sheet of costs when she was researching her move.Maybe someone has a copy.

If your son is already 2 1/2 then presumably he will be 3 by next September and old enough to go to school if you so choose. Have you given anythought to where you want him to go to school/what curriculum you want? The availability of school places (not easy for FS1 or FS2) might affect where you decide to live. If you do want him to start school you will need to move smartly to get his name down as many schools are already offering places for next September.

My friend who lives in a nearby building was evacuated just after 2am. Apparently the fire is in Tamweel (was Al Seef 1). Top totally burnt off and many fires down on lower floors which were started by falling burning debris landing on other balconies. She said the building is pretty much wrecked. My next door neighbour here in AR has a child in FS2 at Gems DSO and seemed happy with FS1 last year. It is an easy 15-20 minute drive down Emirates Rd. Yes, I think it is a good place to bring up small children. There are an incredible number of activities you can choose to be involved in or not. There is also the advantage of more affordable household help than in many western countries.

Mussandam is the name of the area/peninsula I think. Khasab is the main town and most boats got from there. Khasab travel and tours is a company that has been running for a long time.

I have a dryer (and a washing machine) that I am selling for friend who returned to the UK. Both brushed stainless steel and less than a year old. 1000dhs each or 1700dhs for the pair. I advertised on the EW classifieds last Thursday but only had someone wanting them both for 750 dhs! Washing Machine is Samsung Diamond 7kg. Sorry but I don't think Desi girl's directions are correct. Follow Umm Suqueim Rd in from the Ranches. At the last traffic lights, where you would normally turn left to go to MOE, make a U turn and then almost immediately keep right into the new slip road. Follow this slip road parallel to Umm Suqueim Rd and Creative minds is on your right.

I have used Ala Al Adeen in Satwa in the past (3 years ago). They were happy to shorten some curtains I had and did a great job. I was having some other new curtains made though and they did all the track installation so maybe that helped. Worth a try. 04 344 9658

I like the fact that Renovo will still come even though we don't have a maintenance contract. Many companies here are not interested if you don't sign up to a maintenance contract.

I can't find the RERA rent index, only the rent increase calculator. As I am an owner I do not have a rent to enter on the form. By making something up it comes up with the average rent for 3 bedrooms in Arabian Ranches as being 110-180K. Even taking the maximum of 180k the housing fee at 5% would be 750dhs a month which is more than I am paying. What is the next step?

Can you not try speaking to your employer and tell them that you have consulted the Ministry of Labour and that they have advised that they cannot reduce the basic salary like this?

I just range them and they said it is calculated at 5% of the average rental rate for similar properties in your area. That figure can be obtained from RERA they said (call 04 222 1112).

I have had friends who have succesfully kept tortoises here for many years. You just need to have a garden with a sandy/soil area where they can dig a burrow to escape from the heat.
