Is your baby pulling up to stand and cruising around the furniture or not? If you put them in standing, say at the edge of the couch, are they happy? When you say 'scoot' do you mean bottom-shuffle?

I soak in Napisan or Vanish. If you have enough shirts I would leave it to soak for several days. I have soaked stubborn stains up to a week. I never do a really hot wash as I find it sets the stain. Drying outside in the bright sunlight also helps to whiten garments.

If you head out from MOE on Umm Suqeim Rd towards AR, there is a tyre place on the left just before you get to the Al Khail roundabout. To get to it you would have to go all the way round the huge roundabout and come back in on Umm Suqeim Rd. They quoted me a good price then offered me a discount even before I could ask for one. The new tyres were all on within half an hour. Great service!

How big is your budget? There are plenty of Orthodontists in Dubai but the quotes for work are often very expensive. Have you considered the Nichlolas and Asp post-graduate orthodontic training school in Healthcare City? They do an excellent job at about 1/3 of the price. Read the many positive reviews on here. Total cost about 7,000 dhs.

Some IB schools offer the IB Certificate rather than the IB Diploma. It is at a lower level and incorporates some work experience so is more practical. I delieve Deira International School offers this.

Depending on which part of AR you cose, it could be a very quick run. We're in Saheel and it is less than 15 mins to Dubai College which is 5 mins further than ASD. You get onto Emirates Rd then take the first exit and that comes straight in past ASD.

I find the Garden Centre pretty expensive. There is a plant place outside the small Union Co-op on the road between Umm Suqeim Rd and Knowledge Village (Close to the Madinat). It is on the street parallel to the Beach Rd but one street in, if that makes any sense. It is really resonable and has a wide range of shrubs, flowering plants, herbs and vegetable seedlings (in season of course).

We have a very old water cooler that we are just about to throw out. I think it may be the same brand. I'll check when I get home from work and try and remember to post. You are welcome to the taps if you want them. I seem to remember we replaced one of the taps 5 years or so ago but can't remember where we got them from.

The location is stated in the OP. It is the indoor sports hall at Al Noor. Al Noor is in Al Barsha, sort of behind MOE. It is close to the corner of the road that goes down past DAA towards the American School of Dubai. HTH

/I found a fantastic solution for my home made latte and cappucchinos, its a Sunbeam milk frother, you would not believe how well this little gadget froths, it heats the milk to give an incredible foam that's much firmer than the coffee machine type milk foamers. Then I just add it to my fav freshly plunged coffee brew and voila! / Where did you buy the Sunbeam frother Di and how much was it? TIA

Generally much cheaper in Europe if you know anyone coming to Dubai. Having said that, I lugged one back from Spain last year only to find that the Nespresso shop in Dubai Mall had an offer on and you got 400 dhs credit towards pods with any new machine which worked out about the same!

I doubt that you would earn enough to support yourself as a single person. If you have a teaching qualification and could work in school with Nursery aged children(3-4years) then you look at a job in a primary school. Some of these offer overseas packages which include accommodation.

Decathlon at Mirdif City Centre used to stock a range of 'pop-up' tents that literally spring up as you get them out of the bag! Haven't been there for a while but it might be worth a phone call or a look if youre heading that way.

Ther is a new school opening in Barsha South next September. The first year it will be Nursery and Reception only (FS1 and FS2). it will be called Foremarke Hall I think. Not sure how you contact them to enrol. Maybe try calling Repton as it is owned by the same parent company. they are advertising for staff now.

Where do you live? That might make a difference when looking at schools. Uptown primary in Mirdif offers an established IB programme but that's a long way to travel if you live in new Dubai.

In the British system children usually turn 13 in year 8, so if your DD was 13 before the beginning of September then you will be looking for a year 9 place for this year. Not sure of the situation re year 9 but just know of 2 families who moved here over the summer who really struggled to find places for year 8. Do you know whether you want A levels or IB?

Just heard that Evolvence (who run Repton) are opening a new school in Barsha South in Sept 2013. The first year will be Foundation Stage only, FS1 and FS2. No idea how you apply. This should help ease the shortage of places. I think it will be called Foremarke Hall or something like that. <em>edited by plum2 on 21/09/2012</em>

No problem with him submitting the forms on our behalf but all the forms got sent back to be re-filled for one reason or another. We stupidly said we were going to a course (which we are) rather than just going for a holiday. So now we need a letter of invitation from the course organizers and a NOC from our employer. There seem to be different rates for different nationalities. I think as a Brit mine is about 275 but my colleague who is kiwi will pay 450+ ! I will update again as we progress!

The Nicholas and Asp Postgraduate Orthodontic training School in Healthcare City is excellent and has been recommended on here many times. Much cheaper than many other orthdontists and great results. The students are supervised every step of the way. An initial consultation and plan used to be free. Total cost for braces was about 7,000 dhs. Less than half what several other Orthodontists quoted us.

Yes, they do have a stop and drop option by the gate so a Yr 4 child should be fine with this. Parking on the other side of the road and using the bridge works well in the afternoons.

I think you need an anti-perspirant rather than just a deodorant. Doesn't a deodorant just mask the smell? Daily hair washing with a shampoo for greasy hair? I don't think you can escape the teenage spots when they come. It seems to be a stage they all go through. Just make sure they use a good face wash morning and night and seek professional advice if it gets too bad.

Just to add to Katawba's comments, I also use Gladys salon and find it excellent, Yes their pedicures are great. My gelish polish on my toes lasts for 6 weeks. On my hands it grows out before it chips or peels.A french manicure lasts almost 2 weeks. Gina or Jenny are the best ladies to ask for (IMO)

You need to take your car registration card, maybe a passport copy (can't remember) and definitely lots of money to pay all those speeding fines! I can never remember who is supposed to pay the transfer fee - the buyer or the seller. Maybe someone else will know. If your car needs a test (the very new ones don't) make sure the red warning triangle is in the car.

As far as I am aware home births are illegal here. I think you would have great difficulty getting a birth certificate for your child. Hopefully others will have more useful suggestions. What about Al Wasl hospital - it would be much cheaper and I have had many friends who have delivered there quite happily.
