Ok so comparing schools here with state schools in the UK? I've been told that DC is the only school worth going to to get results otherwise you would be better off returning to the UK. Funnily enough whilst I was in the UK this summer I met a girl who had attended JC and she raved about her standard of education (couldn't work out why she'd returned to the Uk to do her A levels though). Maybe because the schools here mostly favour IB ? Many people believe their choice of school is the only one "worth going to"... I don't think it's true to say that the schools here mostly favour IB. Dubai College, English College and Jumeirah all do A levels. <em>edited by plum2 on 30/08/2012</em>

I usually add an ice pack, yes. Some people freeze a small tetrapac of juice. That keeps the food cool as it defrosts and is then nice and cold to drink at lunch time.

If they are children's books then they would be gratefully received I'm sure byt the Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre. This is a centre for children with special needs between MOE and LULU's. They might not be back for another week but you could drop the books off I would think. It is a not-for -profit centre.

If the certs are with your DH here in Dubai, why can't he get them attested in the embassies here ? I'm sure the British Embassy will help. He will have to get there in the morning as they 'close' at 12 noon. And there is also a malaysian embassy here. Google to see if there is a NZ embassy here. Relax. :) Not quite as easy as that sadly. They have to be attested in the country of origin.

My experience is some years old now but may help. In the UK get a photocopy authorized as a legal copy by a solicitor, then it has to go to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs then to the UAE Embassy in London. When you ring the UAE Embassy in London on Tuesday I am sure they will tell you the correct current procedure. In NZ the procedure was the same for the Ministries then it has to go to the UAE Embassy in Canberra. If you call the relevant Ministry in NZ they will tell you how much it will cost and they will send it to Australia for you. The UAE Embassy will send it on to you here in the UAE if you enclose a courier envelope or similar. It is an absolute pain in the neck. I did it all from the UAE but had friends in England and NZ who helped get docs from a to B. Good Luck!

The main service providers are the Child Early Intervention Medical centre (www.childeimc.com), Stepping Stones (it is a branch of the California outfit), and Reach Out. There is also the Dubai Autism Centre. HTH

You need flip flops or other beach shoes though to get from slide/ride to slide. The ground gets way too hot to walk on otherwise!

It is open to the public. You need a doctors letter saying you are fit to swim. Not sure about kids sorry. My DH swims in the evenings when it's open till 8pm.

Anyone know anything about the big indoor pool (the one that was built recently for a big champs) I believe it now allows public swimming. Anyone been? My DH swims there. You need to get a doctors letter saying you are fit to swim(!) and show that the first time you go. I think it closes at 8pm. It is about 30 dhs I think. Often he is the only one there in the evenings.

There are 3 bedroom plus study places in Al Reem at Arabian Ranches from 145 dhs. I think you could get to Internet City in well under 30 mins. I can get to Dubai College from AR in 15 mins and Internet city is v close to that.

I would not stress about your DD. She sounds like she is doing just fine. Most of those things are covered during the FS 1 year (3+) in the British Curriculum and even then not really alphabet letters, that is really FS2 (4+). she sounds like she has great language skills for her age and to be fluently bi-lingual is such a skill. You should be v proud of her!

Thanks lades. Coke Zero is the only bad habit I have. I drink about 3 per day. Sometimes less. Everything these days seem to lead to cancer. :( 3 a day is quite a lot. Can you try and cut down very gradually and substitute one with something else? Do you like fizzy water with a squeeze of fresh lime?

We are in a type 8 Saheel, 3 bedroom. We are all out all day. We have no grass but do have a pool which adds to costs. Our winter DEWA bills are around 2,800dhs and can go up to 4-5K in the summer. We don't have a dishwasher. We have a gas stove with a gas oven and find it great. We have 2 gas bottles so we never run out. You can usually always get a refill v quickly anyway. Welcome to Saheel!

It sounds to me like it is the Green Community roundabout exit, although you can go into slip road for the Jebel Ali Turn off before the actual roundabout.

The simpliest is Umm Suqeim road then on to SZR. But Umm Suqeim Rd can be very slow at this time of the day. Another faster option (as I am not sure whether you can yet access the Emirates Rd from the roundabout shown on Mich 72's map) is to get onto Emirates Rd from Motor City, heading towards Abu Dhabi. Then take the first exit to the right (Hessa Street). Follow this all the way to Sh Zayed Rd (beware of speed camera opposite petrol station). Ibn Battuta is then signposted off Sh Zayed Rd.

We (at AR) have received notices that they will be closing the access to the roundabout opposite Motor City to work on the road. I think this will have huge implications as there will be an awful lot of traffic forced to exit from the next roundabout down opposite Studio City. It will be fine if you will be exiting onto Emirates Rd but not good for Umm Suqeim Rd.

I am sure there are some 3 and 4 bedroom villas in JVC/JVT. I have a friend who had looked at some. There are definitely some in JVC but it just seems to be getting a bit too far away - even though next to JVT it is across Al Khail Road - if there are 3 beds in JVT that would be great, I will keep looking. It is a shame about JVT because the villas are huge and they could definitely have made them into 3 beds instead of 2! Is there nowhere you could put up a temporary wall to turn them into a 3 bedroom?
