Your best bet is often driving around the areas and looking for signs with phone numbers on. (many empty villas have a door left unlocked if you try)

You could also look at The Villa and Falcon Villas. They are just on the other side of the Al Ain Rd from Silicon Oasis. What about the villas at DSO? What is your housing budget like and people can maybe advise you better?

I have found Sharaf DG at Time Square very good for laptop repairs, although mine were more technical issues. how expensive are they,i also have a laptop that needs to be repaired I think Sharaf will also give a quote. I seem to remember a minimum charge. The total bill wouldn't have been more than 250-300 dhs as it was an old laptop and not worth spending that much money on.

I think Kaleidoscope at Atlantis is a great idea. It's a very extensive buffet and then you can show them the Atlantis Hotel with the Aquarium etc.

At 3 your child would be old enough to start school. If you're not looking for a school place this September then you need to research and apply to schools ASAP. Many schools are already over subscribed even for the following September.

There is another hardware store (much more of a workman's hardware store) fairly close to the Ace on Sh Z Rd, but on the street that is one street in from the slip road if that makes sense, called Speedex. They should have one, but good luck in getting anyone there to understand what you mean!

Have you tried Safa School? They are expanding from 300 students to 1000 in new premises so may still have spaces. not quite but there are going to be more FS places....the full capacity of 1000 is planned for a gradual increase over the next few years... Shall we have this conversation again in September when we see how many students there are? Look at what happened to the new Gems DSO last September. Parents had been promised smaller classes, small school etc and then the school grew incredibly. There is a huge demand for places and the temptation of the $$$ just gets too great. I hope for your sake you are right. I also hope they have hired some excellent teachers to maintain the high standards of the current Safa School.

In most residential areas that have big bins you can just leave it by the bin and it will be gone in a flash. Even in areas like the Ranches people put stuff out by their bins and it soon goes. It's all good re-cycling!

Coming from Emirates Rd, onto Airport Rd in the direction of Khawaneej, if he turns left at the lights before Arabian Centre, then first right, he can get to Arabian Centre round the back. Otherwise he needs to go a long way on Airport Rd past Arabian Centre, up to the roundabout and then all the way back again.

That's the right interchange and the same Rd (airport Rd) but Arabian Centre is in the opposite direction to the airport.

Where do you live? In the Ranches a group of friends had a sale of clothes etc last Friday. Don't know how it went but it sounded like a good idea and was well advertised. I am sure you could get higher prices at something like that. 300 dhs is a huge amount. There is an indoor garage sale at Jumeirah College tomorrow I think. Why not call the school to see if they have any tables left?

It costs my children about 25 dhs on the odd occasion that they need to take a taxi from Dubai College to AR, so I would guess about 30 dhs. It's an easy route out along Hessa St and will be even quicker once the Emirates Rd interchange is completed. My daughter rides at Hoofbeatz at the Polo Club and it is excellent. There is also another riding school at the Polo Club.

Not sure about Al Noor but the Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre is a similar school for children with special needs (between Lulu's and MOE). Their number is 04 340 0005. However most of the schools will be closing in a few weeks for the long summer break. There are a couple of groups that organise activities in the summer holidays for children with special needs and their families. I am sure they would really appreciate your help. One of them is the Special Families Support Group. I am sure if you google you could find their contact details.

A Filipino ex-colleague of mine failed her blood test due to Hep B or Hep C (can't remember now). She wasn't allowed into school (we worked with children) but did not have to leave on the next flight. I think she had a couple of weeks to sort out family stuff.

I will write the directions assuming you are coming from Sh Zayed Rd. Hope you can make sense of them if not. Travel as if going to the Wafi. As you come off Sh Zayed road you go up and round to the right onto Oud Metha Rd. You cross over Sh Zayed Rd. You then take the second exit to the Right which is signposted to Healthcare City. Go straight down to the lights (there is a metro station there). Turn left at the lights. You then come up to a T-junction. Go right. The building with the Orthodontic school is called Ibn Sina building I think. It is along on the right, after the car park. There is a pharmacy on the ground floor and also a Starbucks. In the future, park in the underground car park. Take a ticket and get the orthodontic school receptionist to stamp the ticket. HTH

Yes, an opticians eye test would be a good first step. If she is older (40+) then it may just be reading glasses she needs. You can buy these from many pharmacies for under a hundred dirhams. If she is younger she may be short-sighted and may need prescription lenses which can be expensive.
