How old is your child? I let my then 13 1/2 year old fly to the UK by herself on BA 2 years ago. She was going to be coming back with me anyway and it seemed an awful lot of money to pay BA for the UM service as you pay for both ways regardless. She had flown a lot and felt very confident. She had extra money and a phone and I spoke to her every 15 mins or so until she got on the plane! My sister was meeting her at the other end. The only issue we had was that I should have given her a letter saying she was allowed to travel by herself and what the arrangements were, as she got questioned by immigration at Heathrow. Luckily my sister rang her as she was at immigration and the officer was happy to speak to my sister.

Many people I know with children with ADD/ADHD have found Dr Shola very thorough. I would definitely recommend that you read daily with your 15 month old. There are lots of lovely suggestions here. You need books that catch his interest, like ones with bits to touch/feel or with flaps. You can also get books with buttons to push that make a sound.

I buy blueberries every week and the price varies hugely everywhere. One day they will be 11dhs and a few days later they will be 24 dhs in the same place!

Where are your certificates from and where are you from? If British I believe the British Council will stamp to say copies are authentic ( you could call your Embassy/Consulate to ask if they do this) otherwise a lawyer.

We were thinking of Auckland, new Zealand but there isn't anything special for children. We are ideally looking for a european destination where the temperature won't rise above 25c!!!! Yes we are sick of the heat. Our children are 8 and 6. Thanks ladies. Irooni, Auckland has loads of things children would love to do! Just off the top of my head: The Auckland museum is great and has many interactive areas specifically for children, Auckland Zoo is excellent Keely Tarlton's Underwater Aquarium Take a ferry and then walk up Rangitoto - a real volcano in Auckland Harbour Go up the Sky tower for great views of the city There are many great parks around the city like Wenderholm just north of Auckland There is an indoor ski slope near Albany (north shore) From Auckland you could head north to the beautiful Bay of Islands and see the stunning scenery, giant Kauri trees etc, or head south (max 1 1/2 hours drive) to Rotorua to experience the Maori culture, the bubbling mud etc (and the gondola and luge my kids always love) I'm sure I've missed loads - there really are lots of fun things for kids to do!

Thanks Arohadxb. I think you mean the Rashid Centre (between Lulu's and MOE) but I don't work there any more. While they welcome donations of toys and books etc that could be used within the school, I don't think they take other stuff anymore as they have no room to store it. You could check with them on 04 340 0005

Hi I just wondered whether anyone in AR had a wheelchair I could borrow for a week? I have my MIL staying and she's done something to her leg and can't walk far. Most of the malls do have wheelchairs but you take a chance every time that there's going to be one available. TIA

We have done the drive about 7 years ago. We were in Muscat for a few days first and left from there. It is 10 hours drive from Muscat. We did it in 2 bits. We left late afternoon and drove till about 8pm and stopped at one of the 2 or 3 guesthouses there are along the way, had dinner and slept. The guesthouse was basic but clean and fine. Got up early had breakfast and hit the road again. We were in Salalah by lunchtime. It is a long and quite boring drive with literally nothing to see for hours but I'm glad we did it. We had 2 quite small children at the time and, without the benefit of a DVD player, the kids music tapes got such a thrashing that I was ready to throw them out of the window by the time we got back! Only so many times you can listen to 'wheels on the bus' on one trip!

Hi Definitely contact 'all4 downs'. They are a great group. I hope you have the Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre on your list as they offer great Early Intervention services. Please be aware that mainstreaming in Dubai is still at very early stages and you will have to work very hard to get you daughter admitted to a mainstream school - something that is just taken for granted in all western countries.

Unless you have insurance which covers it, orthodontic work can be very costly. I would highly recommend the Nicholas and Asp post-graduate Orthodontic training school in Healthcare City. Excellent work supervised every step of the way by world class orthodontists and about a third of the price of anywhere else. Both my two had braces through them and have beautiful teeth now.

Have you seen a speech-language therapist? Tongue ties need to be very severe before they really impact on speech. I would be surprised if he has got to 10 with such a severe tongue-tie. They are usually snipped at a much younger age.

I have lived here for 11 years and travelled most years without my husband. For some of that time (most recently) we have all been on his sponsorship. My kids even have a different surname from me and different passports. I have never needed a NOC. Does it depend on your nationality?

I have one that I am selling on behalf of a friend. She had to move out of her villa before it was ever used. It is an American 'Northstates supergate classic' which fits openings from 26 to 42 inches. It can be pressure mounted or hardware mounted as a swing gate. It was almost 200 dhs and is brand new. I've been twice for brunch and thoroughly enjoyed it both times. The drive in to the restaurant once you turn into Al Barari itself is lovely as one can admire the landscaping. We sat outside both times and the leisurely feel and calm was a welcome change. Our brekkie was good - great smoothies. Fresh passion fruit! Went to the nursery and got some plants the 2nd time and they were so helpful and delivered. How much is their brunch and what sort of food is included? TIA

What do you want to do? Do you want a beach holiday or not? Barcelona is a great, vibrant city with lots to see and do and you can visit beaches too. Emirates flies direct to Barcelona now I think.

Would either/both of you be using the gym regularly during the week? If it's just for the beach club then that is a huge amount to pay to feel like you have to go to the same place all the time. Personally I would rather spend that money going to different hotel beach clubs and paying the daily rate. I would get bored going to the same place all the time.

Dr Sue Norton, a Canadian GP at Dubai Physio and Family medicine Centre has helped a friend of mine with similar problems. It takes a while to get an appointment with her but it's worth the wait.

Another thing that drives me mad in stores are the shop assistants who feel the need to 'tidy' the rack you have just been looking at mere nanoseconds after you walk away from it. I find it so off-putting. It makes me feel like I have messed up their store and I soon leave.
