AR to DESC would be 15-20 mins, then the same in to DESS. You would be looking at leaving AR about 7am, to DESC by 7.20am and hopefully in to DESS by 7.40am. Not sure what the parking/drop off is like there (DESS) now. It used to be awful a few years back. The earlier you leave, the better the traffic will be. I see quite a lot of DESS families around the Ranches so hopefully you would be able to lift-share.

Highly recommended. Both the speech therapists there are excellent. Many places have a waiting list and it can be hard to get in for therapy anywhere. Where will you be living?

We have done a lot of camping in both the UAE and throughout Oman over the last 10+ years. Whilst there are plenty of places that you could go in a regular car ( and the coast road from Muscat down to Sur and even on to Turtle beach is now a wonderful sealed road all the way) there are a lot more beautiful places you could go with a 4WD. It doesn't have to be huge. We have an old Isuzu Trooper which has done sterling service. Our second car is a Ford Escape (the smallest Ford 4WD). This has also been excellent and has done many wadi trips and even a days dune bashing.

Does it not also have to go to the UAE Embassy in Canberra? It did when we got our NZ certificates attested, but that was a few years ago now. Once we had that done then it had to go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here. At that time their office was on Maktoum St in Deira.

I am sure the Rashid Paediatric Therapy Centre would love the donation of your used toys and games. They are a not for profit school for children with special needs between MOE and LULU's. They are on holiday this week but back on Sunday I believe. 04 340 0005. Someone is usually there from 8am to 5pm

The fat in Salmon is good fat, full of Omega 3 and Omega 6. Try cutting carbs, not fat, and see the difference that makes. I've just finished reading "Why we gat fat" by Gary Taubes and the research behind it makes a lot of sense. It was a cheap 40dhs read from Books Plus.

Emirates are usually heaps more than other airlines when flying from Dubai. I am flying to Europe with Egypytair (via Cairo) next week and the flight is almost half the price that it would have cost me on Emirates.

You can go down to the Emaar office in the Greens with your friends ownership papers, take a number for the queue and then see someone. I think they open at 7am so if you go early there is usually v little wait. If they have not yet bought the property then all community fees have to be settled before Emaar will issue their approval for the sale and transfer of ownership.

It used to be outside the doors at the Carrefour end, inside the covered car park. There used to be a ticket stall just inside the doors there. I haven't been down that end of MOE for a few months though so it may have changed.

I feel for you! My DH has driven me mad with snoring at various times over the years. He is obviously a lot older than your DH. It had got really bad last year with middle aged weight gain. We all went on a healthy eating and exercise plan and he lost about 10kgs. It has made a huge difference and now he rarely snores. Hard to know how to gently encourage your DH though.

The City Hospital is right opposite the DHCC metro station. You will have to change once coming from the Marina area and I would allow 45mins. It is v easy.

I usually just do it in the bathrooms, open the windows and shut the door. No fumes left in the morning. I havent needed to do it in the kitchen.

I just put some neat Clorox into an empty spray bottle, spray the grouting, leave overnight then rinse off. It comes up really nice and white.

I heard Jason Vale (the juicemaster) speak at the Taste of Dubai festival at the weekend. If you google him you will find details of the books he has written. He promotes juicing as a way to lose weight, detox and 'cure' a number of conditions including psoriasis, asthma etc. Worth investigating further.

Do you need someone who can sort his diet out or can you do that? I really believe that it is 70% diet and 30% exercise. If you don't get the food right, no amount of exercise will make the difference. My friend used one of those food delivery companies for her teenage son with a weight issue and that made a huge difference.

Where do you live and what is your son into? (sports, music, videogames etc) You could look at TCC. It is a club that organises events for teens. They seem to have some good events on. I think they have a website and FB page.

I think it would be a good idea for her to carry a letter from her parents giving permission for her to travel. I let my DD travel by herself to the UK when she was 13 (I put her on the plane at one end and my sister met her at the other end) and the UK immigration wanted her to have this letter (which she didn't have!). They rang my sister in the airport to check that she was being met. I didn't want to pay a huge amount for unaccompanied minor as you had to pay for a return trip and she was travelling back with me. (She is a seasoned traveller so is well used to getting through airports and I had her call me every step of the way!)

My DD danced for several years with Sharmila and loved it. Their annual shows are really impressive. They have also done a summer camp right at the beginning of the holidays for a week with visiting US choreographers for the last few years. That has been a great week too. Highly recommended.

'Good Habits' is actually a weight loss group that operates throughout Dubai. They hold group meetings during the day and in the evenings at many venues. It is much like weight watchers where you get weighed every week and losses are celebrated. The actual diet is a very sensible balanced diet which goes a long way towards developing the lifelong good habits that we all need. They have a website if you google it.

I can recommend Grace Higson, a British Therapist at Pulse Listening Center in Umm Suqeim. If you google you will find their contact details. She is excellent and the center is lovely. The only reason she has spaces is because she hasn't been here that long.

My 15 year old DD babysits and we live in the Ranches. Not sure what time you would want someone. She would not be able to get to you until 7.30pm. I would want to bring her round to meet the children before then. Nothing scarier than a child waking to a complete stranger! Let me know if you are interested.

I would suggest going to see an Audiologist for an audiogram first. They check the hearing across all frequencies. If there are any issues they will then refer you to an ENT specialist. I thi k the American Hospital audiologists are very good and v experienced at testing children this age.

All the younger children need to be in car seats on the buses and we also used to give out carseats to parents of the younger out-patients who didn't have one, so I would say yes to the car seat too :)

Hi I no longer work there but I would say all you mentioned would be used apart from the clothes. Maybe you can find another home for the clothes. It is kind of you to think of the centre and I'm sure the children will make good use of all of that. Thanks

My 2 teens (15 and 17) get 500 dhs a month each and have to budget for phone credit, going out, birthday presents and some clothes. I buy basic clothes but if they want extras they have to buy. I was getting so sick of forking out 100dhs everytime a friend had a birthday. They both earn extra money doing baby-sitting.
