Repton school are holding a car boot sale (60+ cars booked) and family fun today at the school today. All welcome. Small entrance charge for charity. Timins are 9am to 1pm I think.

You would be back tracking to go from Jumeirah all the way down to Umm suqueim rd and then back up to MCC. I would go out to the Al Khail Rd either via Meydan Rd or past Dubai Mall, whichever is closer. From Al Khail rd take the exit to Emirates Rd heading towards Sharjah and i think MCC is the next exit to the right.

You could stay in Muscat and see quite a bit from there. The new coast road down to Sur is great. If you are driving you could do the Rustaq and Nakle forts (on a loop road) on the way to Muscat (coming via Hatta) and then maybe go back via Al Ain so you see different stuff on the way back. Nizwa is interesting and Jabrin fort is amazing.

You don't need to see a doctor for the hearing test. You see one of the audiologists. They have Rana Batterjee and Lubaina Sharafally and both are excellent. If they detect any problems with your child's ears/hearing then they will refer you to one of the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT)specialists there. <em>edited by plum2 on 21/02/2012</em>

Hi My mother has high cholesterol and has just recently been in hospital with heart problems. Today I bought a book called 'The South Beach Heart Programme' in Borders MOE. 'The 4 step plan that can save your life'.it looks excellent and I shall be reading it from cover to cover before sending it to my mother. It says it contains information on a wide range of non-surgical steps that can prevent, treat and even reverse heart disease. HTH

It is really not hard to do. I removed the carpet from my DD's bedroom after we moved house. The carpet was only stuck all around the edges. I pulled the carpet up and then used a product called "Goo Gone" or "Dissolvit" from ACE to dissolve the glue. I wiped up the messy dissolved glue with at least a roll of kitchen paper. It was pretty labour intensive but I felt very pleased with myself when I'd finished!

To the Sharjah Wildlife Park, take the Emirates Rd through Sharjah. Take the road to the right signposted Sharjah Airport. Keep going past the airport and it is on your left. It is signposted. I think it might not open till the afternoon on Friday. I hope someone else will know.

If he has his visa you should be able to get a Dubai license the same day you arrive. You need to get an eye test done (most opticians do this) take that, a few passport photos, passport and visa copy, original passport and UK Driving License to the RTA and you should be sorted.

We came here for 2 years from NZ 11 years ago and are still here. We survived on one salary (and not a great one either) for quite a few years. I would say come for the experience. I think you could have a nice lifestyle on that salary if you budget sensibly. Just a point from an earlier post. I drive a small 4WD and drive quite a bit. I would never spend 1000 dhs a month on petrol. It only costs me about 90 dhs (NZ$ 30) for a full tank. Make sure flights and medical insurance for you all are included in the package.

Call one of the High Schools, like Dubai College, and ask for the DT department. The students always make clocks and obviously buy just the movement and hands from somewhere.

Thanks for the directions. It was really busy. We got there about 8.15 and had to wait 30 mins for a table. Not bad though as they have a nice lounge/waiting area where you can order drinks and starters. I like the refillable soft drinks - that saves a bundle. The bnd were great, good atmosphere and nice food. It seems louder than the old one but maybe I'm just getting old!!

I live in Saheel and love it. I have had friends in a Palmera type A and you really get an extra bedroom so it is like a 4 bedroom villa. The 4th bedroom they call a family room/study upstairs just because it has no fitted wardrobes but it is as big as the other bedrooms really. It can easily share the bathroom with the third bedroom upstairs (not the master bedroom). The other bedroom downstairs in great for visitors.The Maids room is also larger than ours in Saheel. The gardens are generally smaller in Palmeras but then that keeps your costs down. I think the typeA living-dining space is perfectly adequate. I thought Palmeras were generally cheaper to rent than Saheels.

It is specifically help with nutrition you want or help with the transition to solids/dealing with lumps etc? If it is more the latter then a speech-language therapist who works in the area of feeding and swallowing might be a good place to start. if your son is 2 1/2 now he will likely be turning 3 before September and will therefore be eligible for an FS1 place at a British Curriculum School this September. Most of these places are highly sought after at the moment and you need to make a decision and get his name down at some schools ASAP.

I would agree, all those therapists Frances mentioned are good. You can also try Grace Higson at the Pulse Centre in Umm Suqeim. (It's Sima Hall, not Sema. She is a great Australian Therapist)

People often leave stuff on the beach while they swim or go for a walk. I read of this happening to a walker just before Christmas. If you are a serious swimmer it's a pain having to wear one of those waterproof things around your neck to put your car keys in.

Don't know the policy at your son's school but we are supposed to pay the fees by the half term of the preceeding term (which would be early May I guess). Can you not ask school to bill you then for the whole year 13, present that and see what happens? As Tuesday says, hopefully you will at least get the first term's fees paid. I will watch this thread with interest as we will be facing this next Sept too. I must get Dh to check his contract and see the exact wording (not that we get a huge contribution towards school fees anyway, but every little helps!) Good Luck

We asked about getting to this island when we were in Abu Dhabi over NY and even the locals we asked didn't know. Someone told us there was a boat you could get from down near the port end of the corniche. Is there an Abu Dhabi Tourism office you can call? They do enough advertising overseas of Abu Dhabi as an adventure destination. Good Luck!

Hi My i-phone 3 is almost 2 years old and I have never had any problems with it until now. This week it started randomly going to the black screen with the apple logo and then coming back to the normal screen after some time. I have not received some text messages , it will not send messages and I cannot make calls. Does this sound like a virus? I have turned it off and removed the sim card but when I started it up again it was just the same. Any suggestions of where to take it to be fixed greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know the exact number of days from the time you enter Dubai to the time you enter Oman where you can get the Omani visa free. I will be travelling to Oman 10 days after entering Dubai so I am hoping the visa fee to Oman will be waived as I dont have a residence visa in my new passport. Do you have a residence visa in your old passport? You can just put the two passports together with a rubber band and that is no issue. Maybe you could ring the Omani Embassy here and find out the exact number of days it can be.

There is a limited time frame within which visitors to the UAE can enter Oman free. It is something like within 9 days of arrival in the UAE. I know this because we travelled to Oman with my sister and her family right after Xmas last year. Their visas were free. It is a joint UAE-Oman tourist initiative.
