The main reason most people put their children into school at the FS1 level is to secure a place in the school. very few extra places appear at FS2. FYI in most schools the formal introduction to whatever phonics scheme is used typically happens in FS2. FS1 is very much a play based curriculum, as it should be for 3 -4 year olds.

Similarly you could get the shirts made too. Try Tailors and Threads in the same street as Lulu's close to MOE.

There is a new temporary entrance along the side of the park that heads towards Sh Zayed Rd ( before you get to the side with gate 5). I used this entrance when getting to the Ripe Market a couple of weeks ago. It is about the same distance to the market area from this new gate. It just means that there is a bit less parking which is a pain.

It's not hard. Walk along the creek pretty much anywhere and they will find you usually. Near the museum should work, although parking might be easier near Heritage Village. I think we paid about 100dhs an hour last time but maybe more as its New Years Day. Good Value for an Hour on the water anyway. Enjoy :)

It citizens from most of Europe seem to be able to claim benefits in the UK I can't see why a British citizen (presumably) who is prepared to make catch-up payments and continue paying for probably close to 20 years, should not become eligible for a pension.

I'm not sure if you can get a porter to meet the plane. I have only seen them after you go through immigration and just before you get to the luggage carousels.

you must not be afraid of cooking a turkey and trimmings. It is a a easy as can be. Not if you don't have a big oven it's not! 150 Dhs? Can't buy a decent bird for Yes you can. Mine was over 8kg and cost 136 dhs from Spinneys! There was heaps to feed 11 of us and we divided the leftover turkey between two families. We are still ploughing through our half!

Yes, I've done the rafting there with teens. It was great fun and quite like the real thing. Not sure if they have a minimum height/age for kids.

If you are not Muslim you could wrap them in bacon before roasting them. This would give some fat and add some flavour.

I actually have a 5c which I am selling at the moment. It is 3 months old and yellow in immaculate condition. I absolutely love it but my husbands work have given us new phones and on their contract I can't use my own handset. I will add it to classifieds in case you are interested. Did you put it on the classifieds?

Are there villas in Sports city? I thought it was mostly apartments. There are villas on either side of sports city in Motor City (these are town houses and bungalows) and on the other side in victory heights.

Park'n Shop on Al Wasl Rd had some real ones for 200dhs this evening. The lady in front of me was mad. She paid 450dhs for hers there last week.

It goes FS1, FS2(Reception) and then Year 1 typically. Your son will be eligible for an FS1 place September 2014 but many parents of children with birthdays this late in the school year (particularly boys) choose to keep their children back and start the following year. Bear in mind that most British Schools start the children with reading and writing in FS2. Your child would be just 4 and many children are simply not ready at that age. You will also struggle to get a place at any of the good, well-established schools at this stage. You would probably need to look at new schools (and there are more opening all the time) to find a place. Do you have any idea where you will be living yet? New schools include Foremarke and Victory Heights (both opened this Sept) and Nordanglia (opening Sept 2014). I believe Kings are also opening a new school. Gems also have new schools opening. Good Luck!

Have you looked at the Circuit Factory? www.circuitfactory.ae They offer classes in the Springs before work and at the Meadows in the evenings. Locations and timings are on the website. Great on-line support and motivation via the FB group too. Highly recommended. First class is always free for a trial.

They do offer this service of course at Gladys salon but I think you pay a bit more. (I'm glad I'm not the only one who washes my own hair!)

I use Gina at Gladys Salon and she charges 80dhs for long hair. I actually wash my hair myself at home and just go to the salon with it in a hair clip. I just hate it all taking so long! Same with nails. I would have them done more often if it didn't take so long!

Colombia also have good backpacks with integrated padded laptop section and lots of useful pockets. I think there are Colombia stores in most of the Malls. I know MOE has one for sure.

They do not approve everyone even if the school supports the application. It seems particularly difficult to get Emirati students exempt. This is hard if their parents have chosen to educate them in the British system and they are having some type of learning difficulty.

Goodness, which school is this that has so many dressing up days? What a nightmare for working parents when you hardly have time to do anything! There is a charity shop in Karama, close to the Choithrams supermarket. Just open mornings I think.

No, it is not just up to the school. They need to apply to KHDA on your behalf. They need a letter from you and a specialists report (possibly Educational Psychologist in this case) recommending that he be exempt, or so I think.

Hi How big is your 10 year old? When my son was in Yr 6 he had to have a black jacket with tails made when he was the compere for a school production. I believe it may still be in our dress up barrell. Do you want me to have a look? If we still have it you are welcome to borrow it. I'm in AR.
