Ashley came out and I have to say I was very impressed! Extremely helpful and very proffessional! DH still wants me to contact a few more companies for quotes, specifically those that supply the cover which you can walk on! So if anybody has a recommendation, would be happy to hear!

Have a clear out!!! The only thing I have ever seen apart from the C4 sheds are prupose built brick ones in gardens, once saw one in AR being used as a hair dressing salon!! Clear out - not an option I'm afraid :( It's all our winter/ski clothing, suitcases, DD's old clothing, DH's power tools and DIY equipment...and it's all stored in closets which we really don't want to part with as we know we will need it when we leave Dubai and there are no bult in cupboards in our next house!

I looked into this last year and Ashley came out tops, she is a lovely lady and VERY professional - I can 100% recommend her and her team. Thanks CP! Did you contact any other companies for quotes, or just went straight with Aquanet?

Hi ladies, I have Ashley coming out from Aquanet to do a quotation on a pool cover for our pool today. However, I was wondering if there is another company I can contact to get a quotation from? Would like to compare quotes and also products, so ideally, would like to have about 2/3 companies come out. TIA

Sami - glad to hear your NT scan went well! Iv got mine on thurs and am feeling a bit anxious about it, so keeping everything crossed that it will all be fine! Did you go to the FMC for yours? Dont stress about it at all, I am sure things will go well. I had the test with Dr. George at ni9e medical- he was so very nice. Goodluck and keep us posted! LMAO-DBX - don't worry about your scan, all will be fine! It is quite detailed, and takes around 20/30min depending on how co-operative baby is ;) We had ours in December just before Xmas and one tip that i can give you, is go early if you are doing it at FMC! Our scan was scheduled at 11:30, we got there at 9:45 and started the process as in total, it takes about 1.5-2hrs. First there is the paper work, then blood test, then the scan, then you need to wait for the results of the blood test, then have your consultation where the blood results and scan are explained to you! By the time all was done, it was 12pm! It is a very exciting scan as your bean finally looks like a baby now!!! Keep us posted x

Hey ladies, quick question... We have just ordered the Britax Highway 2 for DD last night on carseat.se How long did delivery take and did you get a call before the courier came through? Just don't want to risk not being home when it gets delivered as we are still on vacation on SA but anticipate to be home by the time the car seat arrives! TIA

I know - still gob smacked that I have a 13 month old toddler?!?! And Nr 2 on the way already ;) DD will be starting nursery a few mornings a week when we get back to Dubai! We were doing swimming at The Hayya in The Meadows (the one which we did Aqau aerobics at) and will be doing the advance class when the next term starts! I've heard rave reviews about Dawn, so may look into that option too! I had her at Kidville for a gym class last year, and I cannot highly recommend it enough! That could also be something you could look into if you don't make the coffee mornings?! Don't think I will be able to squeeze in much more, but maybe we can meet up one day soon? X

Hey GQ! How are you and your DD doing? I would say, assuming your DD is mobile, the Mums and Tots would be more suitable! I've only ever gone to the B&B's and know that most of the Mums were pregnant or their babies were still in the cruising phase! HTH

Plumie....Thank you so much! Thats exactly it!! Was starting to wonder if i was making it up or going completely bonkers after the responses i had at the shops today! Thanks for the link - I may well love you forever for this!! :D Hope the lavender helps and you start getting some peaceful sleep again! xx Have not actually used it myself, so i hope it lives up to it's expectations! What i wouldn't give for a "nightmare free" sleep, however, it may just be something i have to ride out...blame it on the hormones :/: But will give the lavender a try when we are back in Dubai x

Feeling a bit fed up today tho as i just look fat at the moment rather than pregnant. I cant do the buttons up on my trousers and have heard you can get some kind of trouser ties / extension things so you can leave the buttons open and your trousers dont fall down! but cant find them ANYWHERE! Just got a whole load of blank stares from staff in Baby shop, mothercare, jenny rose...etc today. Anyone know what im on about and where i can get them from? That's what you are looking for :D [url=http://dubaibabies.com/product/tummy-tie-elasticated-waist-expander.aspx'>Tummy Tie[/url'> Lavender - great tip! Will try some when we get back home next week!

I had it quite bad with my first pregnancy and was hoping I would skip it this time :/: Extemely vivid, sometimes horrific, and quite intense! Baby Nr 2 due on the 4th July :D I am yet to believe that every pregnancy is different...so far i have had... Horrendous morning sickness :/: Tiredness that could put anyone into hibernation! Swelling of the joints Sneezing/blocked nose Heartburn ...and i am only 13 weeks!!! Exactly the same symptoms i had with DD, and things only got progressively worse, so here's hoping i will be spared the rest of the symptoms i don't even want to talk about! Had our 12 week scan at FMC 2 days before we left for SA and all was well with our little acrobat ;) And announced it to everyone on the 24th by letting DD wear a T-shirt that said "Big Sister" on it! Took a few minutes for some to figure it out, some never figured it out and others we just blurted it out! It was something we missed out on when i was pregnant with DD1, so it was really special telling all our friends and family in person! On the good side - the tiredness has gone and so has the nausea - comes and goes if i forget to nibble on something for a few hours! On the bad side - i have come down with Tonsillitis - so bedridden and having a terrible time with eating or doing anything! Looks like i am on the mend though, just in time for a New Years Eve Bash which we are attending tomorrow night :) Hope all the other July Mumma's are doing well x

Hi, We fly tomorrow morning, and I just need to know if any of you ladies have successfully taken your Chameleon to the door of the plane? We have only ever checked it in, in the bag or travelled with the Silver Cross umbrella stroller - which they accept at the door! Just not sure where they will store the Chameleon as it comes in 2 parts and don't want any hassles when we disembark! TIA

Loving all of these ideas, thanks so much!!! Laser Leveller!!! that sounds like the way forward! Quizzme...how much is it going to cost me... :\: Hi, sorry just picked up the thread. Can't remember the price as I did all the Xmas shopping in one 1/2 day and my head is still buzzing from it! ... wild guess around 400 Aed. The laser measurer is cool too, cheaper (around 200 Aed) I have my eyes on it lol That's just sorted out my last gift for DH! He would absolutely love this gadget :D Does anybody know what time ACE opens in the morning? Shelly, I got a beautiful red tutu with t- shirt ( so christmassy ) for my one year old, just last week at Next. That's exactly the tutu i bought DD for Christmas ;) Shellly - it is exactly the same as the tutu Y had on at her party, minus the flower as i had that put on! Its a lovely bright red tutu and great price! Pitter Patter has some tutu's but nothing in the Xmas colours yet, but that was 2 weeks ago when i checked, so they may have them in stock now. And Favorite Things has the red Oobi tutu which Aussiemummy has recommended, saw them in there last week! Happy shopping x

Hi Plumie yes my main purpose is for breastfeeding support. thanks DubaiKB, I have raved and will continue to rave about MyBrestfriend! For me, it was by far the best pillow for breastfeeding! Comfort, support - for both Mum and baby and durability just did it for me! It does come in on the pricey side, but it is highly recommended by lactation consultants and i so wished i had known/used it from the beginning! I also read about it on the forum, from another breastfeeding Mumma who recommended it :) If you can afford it, then i would highly recommend it! Favorite Things stock it, Organic Cafe and the baby shop (think it is called Q Baby?) at The Outlet Mall (you can get if for much cheaper from here)! Think its in the region of 180-220dhs!? My LO is 7 1/2months old but Ive been wondering how much milk he should be taking now that he's on solids. So Ive been checking into this and spoke to two lactation consultants today. Both said it depends on the baby. Anything over 450mls is fine if they really likes solids & they are getting enough nutrients, going up to 900mls if they dont eat much. I was told that translates to roughly 3 daytime feeds and a dreamfeed if they need it, this is till around 9 months. Then they would only have 2 daytime feeds & a dreamfeed if they need it until one year. Then if they tolerate dairy well it would depend on how much cheese, yogurt, cereal with milk etc that they get. It should all work out to at least 500mls plus a day. That sounds about right, i was given the same advice! You've just explained it better :)

GQ - from what i have read, 1yr old seems to be the average age to wean them onto cows milk! I am starting next month (and i think so are you) and will move it straight into a cup! My DD is on 3 feeds a day (she is FF however), but before she was weaned onto formula, she was on 3 breastfeeds already (i just replaced them with formula). 9am (before morning nap), 2pm (before afternoon nap) and 7pm - these were her breastfeeds from around 8 months on... There are a couple of books and sites i am following when i start the "cows milk" weaning, so i have not fully figured out my game plan yet! HTH?

Anything that could help over here? I wrote a similar post when DD was about the same age! http://www.expatwoman.com/abudhabi/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=131679&Page=1 Something else to maybe check as well - What is the temperature like when you bath her? Is the window open? Is the A/C on? With the temps much lower at bath time, the change in temperature can affect them and make them extra fussy if the room is not warm enough. At this age, they are not able to regulate their body temperature so it can make them very unsettled! Could this maybe be a factor? We had not thought of thus, until Cecile mentioned it! I was bathing Y with the window open (in Dec/Jan) and could not for he life of me figure out why she went into a frenzy the minute i took her out of the bath water!? As soon as we heated the room up - no more screaming! Something this small, but i was in such a spin, my fuzzy little brain did not think of it ;) HTH

Hi ladies, We re finally starting to get some answers now!!! After countless attempts, i finally managed to get a urine sample from little Madame! Urine analysis confirms infection! Dr was not happy with her leukocyte/white blood cell count as it was very high! Unfortunately i did not get enough urine for culture testing, so had to rinse and repeat the process several times until i managed to get 10ml. DH just drove that through to the clinic, so hopefully by morning we can have the results! He will probably start a course of anti-biotics tomorrow based on the finding of the second urine test! Dr did mention that the throwing up, high temp, restless and wakeful nights could all well be related to the infection! So after seeing 3 Dr, her Dr was the one who finally is getting to the bottom of it :) Lesson learnt - Trust your motherly instinct, it never fails you!

I am so, so guilt ridden! Gave in to the pressures of getting my DD on the bottle and supplementing with formula and ever since then, things have just not been the same with her :( Whoever pressured you into this needs a smack across the head! Hope you get to the bottom of this and have her feeling well again! x Books, Internet, people..."get your baby on a bottle then your husband can help with feeding", "get your baby on the bottle then you will have more freedom"...honestly - I don't even know if everything is related?! But with Y being a "sick free" baby up until a few weeks ago, it just seems like the dots join up?! But will leave the final verdict up until all tests have been done!

Thank you ladies! Another bad night - screaming blue murder from 10pm - 12am and then 5am - 6am :( Just sits in her cot screaming :( Temp was at 37.8 when I went in at 10pm, gave her some Calpol and it came down by the time she settled at 12am! All very strange behavior for her :\: I placed a urine bag in her diaper this morning in the hope that I can collect some urine and take it to the Dr! If this comes up clear, then I will insist on blood work! I know my baby and instinct tells me that something is bothering her! I have the details of a nutropath @ Well Being Clinic, so it may also be an option to take her there for some allergy testing. I am so, so guilt ridden! Gave in to the pressures of getting my DD on the bottle and supplementing with formula and ever since then, things have just not been the same with her :(

Hi ladies, Need to pull up this thread again as things are still not better :( Last night at 1am, DD broke out into a fever of 39 degrees! We called out Dial-a-Doctor and by 2am a Dr was here. He assessed DD and diagnosed her with ear infection. He also prescribed her - Physiological serum, Motilium and Cefodox (anti-biotic). Today i took her to see Dr Khan @ Coopers, and no ear infection picked up and her fever had come down to 36.6 (i had dosed her with Nurofen throughout the day). We left his clinic with a "clean bill of health". Along with this, DD started throwing up again on Monday night after her 7pm bottle, yesterday after her afternoon snack and tonight with her 7pm bottle! I am just so utterly confused as 2 Dr's gave us 2 very different diagnosis and i KNOW something is bothering her as she has not been her usual self the last couple of days/week! Her sleeping is **** and i cant remember when last we had a night were she slept through without waking up screaming in the middle of the night :( I also moved her onto bland, stage 1 puree food and she seems to be eating all her meals and fruit again! She went on a eating strike last week and went for days without eating a complete meal... I am filled with utter guilt for weaning her from the breast as things just went completely pear shaped when i moved her onto formula! She was never ever sick in her 11 months, never ever had a fever when she was breastfed and just generally seemed to have a healthier appetite! What else can i do or consider? Any advice much appreciated x

The men are keeping me totally busy! I must say that the little men are easier to handle, the big baby is the one that takes most of my time! LOL Teething can also make children fussy and cranky (especially molars) ... so it might be that. But LOs sometimes go through a phase of not eating well and then eating like little monsters! It might just be a phase. Dont worry about the weight loss too much unless it is associated with obvious issues like fever! They would pick up as fast as they lost it :) Atleast that's how DS has been. He's been just recovering from a severe attack of tonsilitis (thanks to DS1). And he lost 200 gms in 4 days! And gained them back in two days again! So that's where you have been hiding! Hope the running around has helped you shift the baby weight though ;) Tonsilitis has been doing its rounds, a friend had her baby hospitilized last week-end as he become dehydrated due to not wanting to eat or drink any solids or liquids for days :( Will monitor and go with my instincts!

I had a section last year, my nails and toes are always painted, however my Dr assured me that NO polish on my hand nails were allowed! It is for the exact reason that Meals stated... When i was in surgery getting prep'd, my DH held my hand and the probe came off my finger! Naturally the heart machine went crazy and the first thing they checked was my finger tips! Then realized what had happened ;)

My DD went a record of 12 days without a poop! Prune juice, olive oil mixed with her foods (if older than 6 months and weaned already), tiny amount of orange juice got things going after a while! She was roughly around the same age as your DD, however she was straining quite bad and poop'ing pellets, so we gave her a glycerin suppository to help relive the blockage until the "hard bits" were out!

Just checked the charts, 9kg at 11 months puts her at between the 75th and the 50th, she is fine and will probably go back to 75th once she gets over the tummy bug. I bet your doc is using the old CDC charts. http://www.moh.govt.nz/moh.nsf/Files/wellchild-growthcharts/$file/girls-weight-0-1-years.pdf Thank you for the link KS! DH and i actually did the calculation, so i think somewhere we mucked up :\: Just been in her room for 2hrs now...gave her Nurofen, milk (thinking she is hungry) but just frantic bouts of screaming :( DH is travelling and i think its going to be a long night, but will assess again in the morning before i decide to do anything further!

11months old. She was weighing 9.1kg before the throwing up and "no-eating" started, she now weighs 8.8kg! Have tried giving her the Ella's Kitchen smoothie straight from the pouch, she just pushes it out once i squeeze bit in her mouth! Does not eat yoghurt, but could try making a few fruit purees and pureeing her food down. There have been days where she has gone without eating a single thing for lunch and dinner...then wakes 1-2 times at night for milk as she is starving :/: ETA: she is now in the lower end of growth charts and in the 42 percentile for her height :( Has always been in the 75 and above percentile since birth! edited by plumie on 03/11/2011

She has a different meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday! I almost never give her the same meal for consecutive days...so one night for dinner she will have pasta with meat/fish/chicken, next night rice meat/fish/chicken, spelt with meat/rice/chicken etc... However, that is a good tip and i think from tomorrow i will start logging her meals, as, if it persists then i will have to take her to the Dr :(

sounds like the formula isnt sitting well with her a bed time for some reason... have you tried waiting like 30 min. to put her down after the last feed?? I could give it a try, will throw her routine completely off, but would be better than cleaning up the mess! Why would it not happen every night then? Or only at night?

I just read what i wrote a few months ago and i am so laughing at myself!!! Thought i was exhausted when DD was 8 weeks old, i certainly had a rude awakening :\: DD is just over 10 months old, and come 7pm, i am S-H-A-T-T-E-R-ED!!! In fact, i feel exhausted throughout the whole day, from the minute i wake! My life just feels like a constant rush everyday :( Wake up (still dead tired from the day before), 7:30 - serve DD breakfast, 8am - go for our walk, 8:30 - i have breakfast, 9am - put DD down for her nap, get dressed, clean up the mess created at breakfast, unload the dishwasher, prepare DD's bag for the day, wake DD up - off we to an activity (which is everyday except Thursdays), have lunch, back in the car to run and errand, back home - put DD down for a nap, clean up the house, think of something for dinner, DD wakes up - play time/run an errand or play date, 5:30 - serve DD dinner, 6:15 bath/boob/bed - 7pm - can barely hold myself up straight :( It got so bad, I've been to 2 Dr's now, took loads of blood, ran loads of test and everything has come back negative! All organs functioning well and all vitamins levels in the normal range! Oh - and i get an average of 7-8hrs sleep at night, so it cant be sleep deprivation :\: I have me time, i have nights out alone without DH, we have nights out as a couple, and i get help from DH when he is at home! We thought that it may be my hormones adjusting as DD is only on 2 breast feeds a day - but my Dr and midwife said that this should not cause exhaustion?! I feel like i am rambling, but just cant get my head around the way i feel!? I have some St John's Wort and Evening Primrose Oil somewhere in the house, but have not got around to start taking it yet! Would this help at all? OR - is this it? Is this going to be the pace of my life from here in on? And i should just ride it out, suck it up and eventually things will level themselves out? PHEW - that just took the last bit of mental energy i had left for the day ;)
