Having people take care of you creates jobs, feeds families, puts roofs over people's heads, sends children to school... Think of it like that and while you'd never want that person as a guest in your home (as it creates a job for you which you WON'T get paid for), they somehow contribute to the economy... :\: I hope you're joking

Last time I tried to take the bus to AUH from Ibn Battuta, after I waited for 2 buses and there was no space available, I decided to take a taxi. There was a taxi driver already waiting and he filled the car with 6 people, we each payed 30aed and he drop us off at the main bus stop in AUH. It seems as something they usually do, because some people were approaching the taxi without even bothering to check the bus. To come back from AUH, same story, bus full. So I went to the vans that are next to the buses and for 20aed got drop off at Ibn Battuta. I will never, ever again try to take the bus.

It's very simple, you just chopped all the veggies into tiny squares and put them in a pan with some olive oil, garlic and onions and you let it cook, in the meantime you prepare the tomato sauce and when the veggies are cooked you mix it all.

Thanks Nordique. I will place my first order with them for next week then. There are so many dishes you can do with aubergines: eggplant parmigiana, mouttabal, baba ganoush, moussaka. My favorite is to cook aubergines, zucchini and carrots, make a light tomato sauce and mix it all with some rigatoni pasta. It's delicious!

I used to work on board the ships and I've always seen kids enjoying themselves, there are even baby sitters on board in case you want to have a private dinner or "go out" with your DH. I don't think it will be a waste. I think it will also depend a lot in the itinerary you chose and the time of the year. The Med is lovely and so is the Scandinavian one.

What about Armenia or Georgia? They're good destinations if you like cold weather and culture. FlyDubai also flies to Amman. edited by pmd on 04/11/2012

Quinoa salad with fresh spinach, parsley, rocket, purslane, yellow peppers, cherry tomatoes, radish and dates mixed with lime juice and olive oil. But only if my vegetable box is here on time. If not, ummmmm. Yummy!!! I'm doing a Greek night: vegetable moussaka, tzatziki sauce and Greek salad with home-made bread.

Yes, Doha's very nice but as I said in my original post I've already been to all the neighboring countries. You should also visit the souq and the pearl while in Doha. So what do YOU have in mind? Do you have any places in minds and maybe we can suggest from that? I was thinking about Azerbaijan but now they took the visa on arrival option and I wouldn't have enough time to process the visa. I went to Maldives 3 weeks ago and even though I loved it I don't want to do that same kind of trip again. I'd like to go somewhere cold, with culture and streets to walk around.

Of the ones you mentioned the only 2 places I haven't been to are Bali and Goa. Bali is not so good in terms of flights for 4 days and for Goa I should have a visa for India.

Can't help you with where to buy a book, we had bought ours at borders, Lonely Planet guide. But if you want to post your email address I wrote up some tips from our trip and kept it saved because friends have wanted to travel there. It's just a little write up on where we stayed, how we got around, etc. might help :) Hi Ladies, I am off to Vietnam with hubby next week and we are still finding it difficult to plan our itinerary- eek! Moose- any chance you still have that write up of tips that you can share? or anyone else has been and has something similar to share please? I think our main issue is we would like to do the north (halong bay) and the south (ho chi minh) and transport seems to be a nightmare, would it be best to get the help of a travel guide although hubby is not huge on that idea.. TIA for any tips or recommendations x I was there for Eid this year. You can also take buses for the shortest distance (they also have buses for longer routes but I wouldn't recommend them) and take a plane for the longest distance. We went from HCM City to Hanoi and managed to see everything and we also did a one night cruise at Ha Long Bay.

You could also contact the Alliance Francaise library in Oud Metha, by paying an annual fee you can get lots of books and dvd's and I think the kids section they have is quite good.

Hello ladies Can anyone recommend an Arabic tutor who will hold one-to-one lessons? I’ve searched here but most results are for classes which I don’t want. I’d rather have one to one lessons. As always, many thanks in advance :) K Kelly I teach Arabic in one to one basis and I have experience in teaching Arabic for non -native speakers in various dialects . I am free in the mornings to come to your home or any place you like. edited by rani 75 on 25/09/2012 I'm also interested in continuing with my Arabic studies, I did some levels at Eton but got a bit tired of it. Maybe we could put a group together and do a morning lesson once a week.

Last week I waited 30 minutes for one friend and one hour for another one, after that I decided that I will stick to the 15' minutes rule. If they are not there 15 minutes after the appointed time, I will leave. After all I also have a life and I find it very disrespectful to keep people waiting. Here because nobody cares about anyone else but themselves, they also don't care about being late.

When I arrived here I was in the same situation as you and after looking to a lot of apartments, we ended up in JLT and never left. We live close to the metro station, which means we can cross over to Marina whenever we want to and also take the metro, in case you don't drive. JLT used to be deserted when we moved in but now there are a lot of cafes, restaurants, supermarkets and small shops. There's also a Real Pilates and an organic shop where you can get freshly products every week. You should take a look. And good luck settling in, in takes a while but then you start enjoying the city :)

There are so many options from Dubai, just check flydubai.com or skyscanner.net and you will get all the info you need. It also depends on what your mother like, Sri Lanka is great, Jordan, Lebanon, Armenia, are also good options and of course, Maldives.

Ciao! I haven't seen any during my recent trip to Vietnam, but you can tell her to check in www.couchsurfing.com in the Vietnam group, if there aren't any Italians, she can make other friends, at least. She should also check the Italian embassy website: http://www.ambhanoi.esteri.it/Ambasciata_Hanoi since they might have some useful links.

I would recommend La Parilla in Jumeirah Beach Hotel - it is the best, bit pricey but very good! The other option is Pachanga in Hilton Jumeirah. It used to be the best one in town for many years... Churrasco nights on tuesday is fun... edited by DRey on 28/08/2012 Stay away from La Parrilla. Their meat is not from South American, it's Australian and the food was not very good when we visited. edited by pmd on 29/08/2012

Turkish Airlines Inc. P.O. Box 1200, Dubai-UAE Ticketing Office : (+971) 4 2112527 Fax : (+971) 4 2945676 This is the ticketing office number, but I'm sure they can give you the costumer service number also. Their service is very bad in any case :( so good luck! I've decided not to use Turkish Airlines anymore, I prefer to pay more than to travel with them.
