There's also a great place called Kisaku. Its at the Khaleej Palace on Makhtoum Street. Not the best location, but its a very very authentic japanese restaurant, and you can rent a private room and sing away to your hearts content. The food is fantastic, and the most authentic Japanese food here. A friend of mine, who happens to be Japanese, and works for National Traveler, had gone around through quite a few places, and said hands down its got the most authentic japanese food/feel in the area.

Hi niggles, Ive gone from brunette to blonde twice..and i would say one thing; do not under any circumstances try to cut cost on the procedure...it damaged my hair horribly, and took about a year and a half of sticking to my natural colour to bring my hair back to normal (or as normal as it can get). I suggest you do it gradually. Sometimes, in fact most often, the blonde hair takes on an orange/ginger tint after a few months if you use the wrong products There are several levels of blonde that you can become, but i suggest you find some good websites to go through, as im not a professional and will stay away from giving any concrete suggestions... after all, everyone's hair is different. In my 21 years here, there was one salon that i was fully satisfied with, although ive never used them to go blonde, and that is Salon Ink. They are pricey, but when going from brunette to blonde, as i said, its best to use the absolute best professionals to ensure you dont suffer later. Your hair will dry up considerably, and you will develop knots easily. Hair fall will also increase. Again, i cannot stress this enough, do a gradual colour. Do not fall for false promises of a one off transition, you WILL regret it. There are several websites (i will try to remember which ones and post again) that explain step by step what you should expect from a professional transition. they also explain step by step which products should be used. All this said, if you do it right, its a great experience and there ARE ways to maintain your hair properly and eventually get it back to health. I suggest you start reading up about natural/homemade masks, they help more than any chemical infused shampoo or mask. I generally dont fret with hair protection under the sun, but i would highly recommend doing so once you are blonde. Also, once you have your hair dyed, i would recommend looking at "branded" shampoos like Redken (this brand helped me most during my blonde days, but it will of course depend on your hair type, so there are other brands like Kerastase that you may want to consider) Anyways, as promised, if i find the sites that helped me most, i will post them here. Hope i didtn scare you too much. It is a great experience, especially the first couple of weeks in the mornings...its exciting to see a "new you" in the mirror :)) i tend to come off fairly vain during my first few weeks because i constantly look in the mirror due to over excitement with my new change :)) Do it right, and enjoy the new you i dont think anyone can really recommend a shade, as it all depends on your hair condition, eyes, skin colour, face shape etc etc....thats probably best discussed with a hair professional hope this helps :) if any questions come to mind, feel free to ask..im addicted to hair colour/style changes, so i've packed a good amount of tips here and there :) and despite all the annoying hair-health issues, im definitely going to take the plunge again :)

What puzzles me most about "pro text writers", is how they insist on defending themselves, thus wasting their time. Why not just write like a normal person and avoid the hassle of argument all together....its not like its particularly difficult or life threatening. Aside from that, i had a good laugh at the beginning, especially at some of the responses...some of you gals are super hilarious

kitty bitty, in my line of work i come across those sunglasses brands fairly often, and would say your best bet is Bvlgari or Givenchy. Bvlgari, Versace and Tiffany are developed by the same factory in Italy (they also handle Ray Ban and many other well known brands). Since they are all made under the same roof, quality is usually fairly similar, but i have to mention i've heard more complaints about Versace and Tiffany. Bvlgari seem to be the most popular and i havent heard of any complaints from them. I've merchandised Gyvenchy before as well, and i haven't heard of any negative feedback on those either. Hope this helps

Bella, i would agree with amelia, but just in case you'd prefer to call first, i found selecting the "to make a complaint" option the most helpful. i press it regardless of what my query is as its the only one that sends you to an agent, and then from there they usually pass you onto the right person....ive done this several times and it always worked

I'm really not sure about quarantine in India. We were import/exporting between Dubai and Russia. I'm sure either Moveone or Emirates Sky Cargo will have the info though :) Good luck in you relocation, hope it all goes smoothly.

Hi, Im not sure of procedures, but if you dont find any answers, i'd contact Emirates Skycargo. We transported our dog out of here, and then back here, and we used them. If you dont want to go through the hassle of paperwork, permits etc, i suggest moveone inc. On exporting we did everything ourselves, but when bringing our dog back, we used Moveone and they were the most competitive in terms of prices, as well as the most helpful

i reckon the best way is to get EW motor city residents to start posting...Those who read this thread, hopefully will help us out... I agree, it has great potential We could each think of interesting threads to post on there... It seems like emicool complaints is the most common thread on there, and although that is a big issue for many, there are other things we can discuss on there, or arrange community meet ups, offer help to each other, advice etc...does anyone by any chance know who the creator of that forum is? perhaps we should contact them with ideas on how to boost the place up?

I've been on that site for quite some time now, silently though, but i agree, its needs some revival...maybe we can encourage the folks from EW to be a bit more active in the next few months and see if we can give that place some life?

JShepherd; my mother does that part time for quite a few people here, house-sitting that is. She's not a business, but just a stay at home mom who's eager to be busy during the day. She has great references from people. If you don't find anyone by then, let me know. She usually does this through word of mouth and through my friends since she is not operating as an actual business (she just hates living off me and my sister), but if you don't find anyone we can provide great references. We have two dogs, a cat and an african grey parrot, so she's not new to animals. She's a mom, a wife, so the cleaning part as most of you imagine is better than most maids :)

Chocs01; they are obliged to do finger prints....they just avoid telling you so..you have to INSIST they do it...they then call over a CID guy who does the finger print dusting....but they are obliged to provide you such a service....after which with your help they will eliminate anyone you know, and take it from there....this guy is still out there and a threat to your community...police are obliged to do everything by the book here...dont allow them to provide substandard service .... insist on finger print dusting...and more frequent police patrol!!

Wild Wind; Where exactly did this happen? Perhaps it would warn anyone on this site who also lives in that area. Have 999 on speed dial...in fact you can still call them...the culprit's fingerprints are still on that door...i had someone carefully break into my car once and insisted for fingerprint dusting even thought no visible damage was done to the car...it helped...the guy was eventually caught...so dont think just because he didnt actually break in, the cops wont help

fnottle; next to Mall of the Emirates there is a place called LuLu Supermarket...most cab drivers know where this is if you dont have a set of wheels yet...if you do, Mall of the Emirates directions online will get you there....also, in Mall of the Emirates itself there is Carrefour as mentioned by members below. These are the closest to your area..you can also visit the mini/express Geant in Barsha/Tecom which has all basic essentials. Geant and Carrefour are owned by the same operator i think...a french group. For direction to Barsha/Tecom i suggest for the first trip ask a cabby to take you, as it may be slightly complicated in terms of directions for a newbie. <em>edited by PN on 14/08/2011</em>

Mornings guys...Birdy died half an hour ago. Apparently the antibiotics didnt' get to him on time. Doctor said sometimes it happens as his temperature was extremely low when he saw him, hence it could have swung both ways. Before leaving for the office i checked on him, and he had just woken up...he was alive...i didnt' get close enough to notice perhaps that he wasn't doing all that well. i just opened the door and checked from afar..he was standing up....the friend who's cats those were, just called me to inform me he has died....im sitting here on a conference call and bawling my eyes out...what a shame...can't say im too warm toward those cats anymore...and im a weak-hearted animal lover. Poor Chick :(

wuffles; his wing is fine..he lost a lot of feathers, but it'll be fine...his right foot had some minor nerve damage, which the doc said will recover fast...also just where his tail starts there was a fairly raw scratch but that too will be ok...he was just badly roughed up, but no permanent harm was done...the only danger at this point is if he never gets over his shock, as that can kill birds...but he seemed alright...he's improving, which is a good sign....and he's been asleep all day....Thanks again everyone :))))

Hello everyone! Chick is doing great :) went to see the vet 'family' recommended, and he was fantastic. Going to take my african grey parrot to him from now on!! Doctor's name is Walter in case anyone needs him for the future. He gave Chick an antibiotic along with some other shot that i forgot the name of....something pretty well known, but its flown right out of my mind. I bought some special bird food which he recommended, which i will later use for my african grey as apparently its great for them as well. Dr Walter asked me to keep Chick in his carrier for another twenty four hours as his temperature was fairly low (36 in comparison to the 39 needed) due to shock. So ive closed him up in his room in the carrier again..he's snuggled into a towel all on his own...literally poked his face right under the towel and has been sleeping (or so i presume) since. I ground up the bird food for him and left it there...he's really tired but the shots are obviously helping. Doc said once hes more alert, i should take him down to the area underneath the balcony where he was caught, and leave him either on a tree or high bush. Apparently he's fairly young...."teenager" :) Doc said he's a dove..he handled him with his hands, which at first concerned me as i heard once you handle a bird his parents kill him...or something to that extent..but apparently it is not so with these doves... Gorobattie; you reminded me of my very similar story !! i was 9 and spent a weekend trying to revive a chicken...to a point where i brought him warm chicken broth !! (not the brightest of things ive done in my life, but i was 9 and the chicken loved the broth...he eventually got better) It's nice to see other sentimental people out there :)) I was very happy to know that there was a bird specialist who bothered to take the time to help us out even though its not a pet, nor a special species...so im all about the "yeays" for tonight...will be setting the little one free by tomorrow night as per doc's orders...not sure how i would have handled the situation had the bird been killed... Thanks to everyone for showing such concern and care :) its good to know im not the only "weak-hearted" person out there :)))

Hi guys, Thanks for all your replies :) it's nice to have other concerned people :) birdie is fine and we have a vet appointment at 6. I haven't been around him much since i put him into a carrier, which i simply had to do because when i put him onto the balcony he tried flapping away but couldnt'...and i couldnt leave him there as surely the cats would attempt a second attack. Since then he's been in the carrier, in a dark area...at that same time i left him some water and food...between this morning and afternoon ive checked on him twice just to make sure he's not dead, and from afar it looks like he ate all the food and has had some water. Hes more mobile now and even chirped once. At the advice of the vet, if he hastn' flown away last night, and since half his wing is missing, he probably wont fly until a vet actually looks at him. So im keeping him in there on his own till its time for an appointment. I do understand that he is probably very scared of being in an unknown place to him, but it's better than setting him out right now since he cannot fly. Last night when i put him in the carrier i noticed he had a scraped area just above his tail which was fairly raw, vet advised he neets to be examined to avoid potential permanent damage. I know it sounds like im man-handling him, but its just my over descriptiveness...i haven't actually been around him closely aside from when i caught him under the bed..he's sitting on his own, in a quiet and dark place. I would like to set him free, as i heard birds' wings do mend on their own eventually, but the area i live in has too many free roaming house cats, and he wont stand a chance for more than an hour.

Hi FFK1978; Birdie is ok. He's still shocked, but he's now able to stand on his feet for long periods of time. After much rest under the bed, ive put him into a cat carrier. The carrier is filled with towels and a small dish of water. At closer inspection i can see that he's suffered severe feather damage on his wings. He can flap, but it doesnt get him anywhere. I tried putting him on the balcony first, but he didnt' budge, so thats when i decided to keep him overnight in a small carrier and then i'll take him to the vet 'family' had mentioned. Poor thing. Oh yes, and i did use a towel/gloves to make sure i didnt touch him just in case he's not just a small bird but a baby one....but judging from friends' stories, he should be alright. He's improving which wouldnt be the case had he been severely injured. Ps. i named him Chick..first thing that popped into my frazzled mind was Friends favourites Chandler and Joey and their baby chick :))

Ouch! No i had no idea! Im mildly allergic to cats but noticed that if a cat's teeth strike me the reaction is very different and more uncomfortable in comparison to my normal allergic reactions. This is indeed very new and interesting info. Good to know though as aside from occasional cat sitting for my friend, i have my own cat as well. Scary stuff! Never going to annoy/force cuddle a cat again!

Unfortunately the thought did cross my mind. For the first few minutes while the cat was running around with it in its mouth, my only thought was "if the bird is almost dying, why doesnt the cat just put it out of its misery" as there seemed to be little that i could do. The cat just get running under narrow areas where i could not reach them. Now that i have put the cats away and left the bird alone, he seems to be moving around a lot more. I simply cannot put it out of its misery myself though. It may be the best thing for him, but i cannot make that decision. I dont know the extent of its injury and would rather let nature take its course i suppose (although i realize some may argue my saving the bird may have not been natural, with which i do not agree). Worst comes to worst, maybe he'll peacefully die, or maybe he just needs some rehabilitation time. But i do see your point Der. I'm too weak, and too anti-euthanasia to do so myself though. I don't think its bleeding. If there was any brain clotting, warmth in the apartment may have allowed it to subside (or so i read online), so im just going to hope for the best. One thing that worries me; cat saliva has bacteria that can sometimes kill birds, and immediate antibiotic attention is usually required for such situations, and i hope the bird is lucky enough to not require this.

Thank you for all your replies ladies! Advice Seeker; Yes i have contacted the 24hr emergency at N.A.S, but the emergency guy just told me to put it outside somewhere. He said quite a few phone calls were similar to mine, but all he can offer is some minor tips. The bird seems more mobile now, he's gotten from one end of the bed all the way to the other side. It looks like he's looking for a corner. I've moved the bed as much as i could to accommodate him, unfortunately the bed is so heavy, and im pretty tiny. I keep watching over him. I read you cannot give them food or water until they've become warm, so im waiting for now, although i did pour a wee bit of water into a small dish and put it near him. I really hope he survives. Poor thing. Im also keeping the balcony door open in case he does decide to fly off. I think dubai really needs a rescue center for all animals, regardless of species/breed. Oh if i were rich!!

Hello Ladies, Although i have been following this site for quite some time now, this is my first time to write anything on here. My name is Polina, and i come to you with a fairly odd question/query. I am currently cat sitting for a friend, and they (2 cats) have dragged in a bird into the house. It was twenty minutes of bird torture before i could wrestle the cats away and lock the cats up, but now the bird is stuck under the bed, frightened, injured, and possibly dying. I cannot get close to the bird as it keeps moving away from me (not without struggle). I have called several 24hr vets and rescue centers but noone seems to care about "plain street birds". I have no idea what i should do or whom i can contact. I cannot sit here and watch an innocent bird die, regardless of whether he is some special breed or not. He's a living being. I am afraid to touch him as i might just cause more harm than anything else. does anyone know of a vet or rescue center here that i can call that will actually care for a simple "street bird"? This may sound like a ridiculous post, but im a big animal lover and it just kills me to see this. I was almost in panic mode when i heard that poor little bird struggling to get away from the cats, the sound of his flapping wings brought a river of tears out of me. I'm at an apartment area where many owners let their cats out to wander about, so i do not want to just leave him outside in this condition. Isn't there a place in dubai where i can take this bird before its too late? Again, this may sound fickle, but i'd really appreciate any help/tips or contacts. Thanks in advance ladies. Polina
