I moved from Dubai Marina to Al Ghadeer 1.5 years ago and don't regret it at all! Yes, it's further out than most places, but apart from that once you are here it's lovely! Houses are nice quality, about 10 pools in the community and 5 or so gyms - small grocery for everyday items, and now a costa for coffee and pastries! More shops are meant to be coming...but have no idea when, so you just need to plan things - it's easy. Bigger shops at Ibn Battuta or DIP/Greens Community and you're fine. Ibn Battuta & DIP are both approx 20 minutes drive away. The community is full of families which is really great and a lot of mother support in the area. There are some schools and nurseries that are doing buses to AG, but definitely not as much as more occupied areas. RERA is not in place, however I've heard AD will be introducing something similar. Jebel Ali Waterfront - my husband worked on and he would not recommend to live there. It's lower quality and only 10 minutes different to Al Ghadeer location.

Hi Ladies, I'm about to employ my first live in nanny to our 4 month old son. I'm trying to get things organised and create a daily checklist etc...but I would really appreciate any advice you have on how to get the best out of the Nanny and ensure that things are managed correctly. Thanks!

Thanks for all your replies ladies! Some good info you've shared with me! Definitely will bring a spare set of clothes for me also.... That seems to be quite common, it happened to my sister and her LO when flying from Oz! Will check out the remade bottles from Waitrose/choitroms and also bring a bit of formula with me. I'm gonna check I get a bassinet... God help me and everyone around me if I don't get one!!

I've always packed the dry formula in individual bottles and just asked the flight attendants to add the right amount of warm water. Easier than the pre-made stuff and warm. The easiest flight you'll take with your child will be when she is a newborn. She'll sleep the whole time. Do get to the airport early and try to get a bassinet seat. Don't be surprised when there are single men travelling alone who end up in those seats while you are placed somewhere else! I would prefer dry formula to be honest, but it's the water I'm not sure about. I've heard you can bring water through security if it's for babies... But don't want to do this to then have it taken off of me... And left with nothing to feed the baby... I think I'll take some anyhow and get the water in the plane like you said. Also, I thought a bassinet seat was confirmed if travelling with a baby?? I'm flying emirates - can someone confirm when you book with an infant it guarantees you a bassinet? I dread the poor person next to me if I don't get one!

Hi, I have seen individual premixed formula at choithrams maybe call them and ask so your not driving all over Dubai. Tips on travelling, wet wipes big bag! Light Blanket for the top of the bassinet as the draft is bad when baby laying in it! We make a tent ontop of the baby. Dry formula is lighter to travel with but you never know how clean there water is. Yes change of clothes for you, vomit is very common on flights i noticed. Bring enough diapers, sleepers so baby is comfy and covered. Oh and a change table mat for when you change diaper. Happy flight. ..I will be doing this in august. Thanks Pinkdiamondz! Lots of good ideas! Good luck on your flight also ?

My friend told me about Infacol also, so using that in the mean time ? seems to be going ok! As my baby is also on formula he has been having boiled water since about 6 days old... But of course mixed with formula powder. Appreciate all your help ladies x

We went to the same medical clinic - but different branches. A privately managed one, not government. This is why I thought it was a bit weird, but then also thought maybe they have changed rules/regulations...? It was asked for by her OB-GYN directly.

Hi Ladies, Thanks for your feedback. Actually it was just her OB GYN at the clinic that asked this. Not even at hospital stage yet. This is why I found it strange as I haven't been asked up until now. I know they checked my insurance card to confirm I had maternity coverage (which I assume also confirms I'm married etc) Hmmmm

Hi Cherpie, yes she was asked by her doctor. I am sure I was not asked for this... So thought it was strange and wondered why. Anyway, if others have been asked, I guess it's normal? Wonder why I wasn't asked....? ?

Hi Ladies, I am married and 6 months pregnant. My friend who recently found out she is expecting is also married... But she was asked for passport and blood tests by her doctor... Which I don't remember doing/submitting. Both myself and husband are Christian, but my friend is Christian, married to a Muslim. Has this got anything to do with why she would be asked And I wasnt? Anyone had this also asked for?

Thanks Pink Lilly, Well, YES is the answer...I could go to a senior regional person....The company I work for is international, so no chance to get to the CEO, however locally I could approach regional heads. I have been thinking of writing a formal complaint in regards to how this has been handled, which possibly I may still do...but not sure what use it would actually do. You are right, and I agree and happy knowing that I am of value, otherwise, they wouldn't blink twice at my resignation. I had discussed my options when I was planning on continuing with work. I asked for my 45 days + 30 days annual leave. He did not agree to it, as said I'm too vital to the business to have out for that long. It was also expected that within the 45 days, I be on laptop and reachable... totally ridiculous to me to even consider that! I'm happy in my decision. Just disappointed that working so hard doesn't really mean anything in the long run when it doesn't suit others!

Hi Gorabattie, yeah, I have looked at making one also...and have so far attempted and failed. If it's not too expensive, I think I will opt out of making and buy one !! :)

Hi there, I have my 'wedding ceremony' in 1 month here in Dubai, however was 'officially' married in church about 6months ago! Yes - you have to get married in a church before having a civil ceremony anywhere in Church - otherwise it's not allowed, the celebrant will not do the ceremony. There are numerous churches in Dubai - we got married in teh Anglican Church at Jebel Ali with Stephen - very nice priest. I am Roman Catholic, my husband is Greek Orthadox - and we orginally tried to get married in the Catholic Church...but just too complicated and seemed too overbearing for what we were looking for. I got in touch with Lorraine at the Anglican Church who helped us with everything - they are all so friendly!!! [email protected] You have to attend a marriage preparation class, and then set the date for the wedding. Once you have the wedding (we just have 5 friends attending, as we want our day in 1 month to be the big event) you'll get your wedding certificate. You can pay an additional fee to the church, and they will get the translation of hte wedding certificate done, and attested in the courts. Pay the additional money, it's not much and you don't have to go around doing all this yourself! Good luck, and congratulations!!! Having a small church ceremony will not take away from the day you celebrate your wedding in front of your friends....I can't wait for mine in a few weeks!! :)

Hi Sandy, I have been getting eyelash extensions for a few months also - and have stopped, because I can also see that my real eyelashes are just dissapearing. Same thing happened to me where it was just a whole of fake eyelashes glued toghether hanging by a thread on the whats left of your real ones! They do look amazing, but in the long run it can't be good for your eyelashes....so I've decided only on special occassions with they go back on now! My eyelashes have grown back pretty quickly, but are thinner than normal..I think it will take another month until there good again. Good luck, and don't worry I'm sure they will sprout back soon! (just use a bit of eyeliner on your eye...for me it looks like I have more eyelashes this way until they grown back!)

Hello Ladies, I am getting married in February, and a friend of mine told me she got MAC airbush make-up (in Australia) for her wedding and said it was amazing. I would like to give it a try also to see if it is just as good as she says for me. Does anyone know of any make up artists in Dubai that offer this service, and preferably with MAC makeup? Thanks :)
