Hi My mum and dad have sold up and are coming out to live in Dubai landing 21st August ! I am looking at apartments of them- preferably Souk Al Bahar area, Downtown, Beach Road, Safa Park area. They need to be in walking distance to bars, restaurants etc as this will be a culture shock to have to drive everywhere. Also fairly close to the beach as they are used to living on the coast ,,,, does any body know of anything coming up? Please send me info if they do ... budget no more than 120,000 for a 2 bed . Thanks

Correct I didn't say anything about emirates staff just that I've found the residency a bit antisocial - I suppose a bit lifeless is what I was getting at -that now seems a good word to describe it?!? As for previous threads yes a little negative when we moved in after my daughter was accused of shi**ing the pool and were fined 3k- now case dropped by the way as wasn't us!!! Anyway at no time have a blamed any of the above on the fact some people fly planes as a job!!!! I always thought it was quiet here as well until another resident (school mum) told me of the goings on at her next door neighbours villa.................well I never! OHHH I was told a bottle of washing up liquid on your window seal means yours husbands away ,,,,

Morning everyone ! This feels a little strange thing to do but since moving to DSO Cedres villas I've found it really hard to meet "normal people". I've been in Dubai for 4 years and love it the kids are happy at school and I work part-time so feel like I can escape!!! But I'm really missing having friends in the same residential area, for the kids to play with me to chat to, meet at pool , have a bottle of wine etc. etc ........ I keep finding myself going back to where we used to live which isn't ideal and not helping the kids. So this I suppose is a friend request ! Now that bounds pathetic I know but a bit desperate!! Wow, you really have it in for the EK families don't you? NORMAL PEOPLE??? wow! where in her posts did she talk about EK families? actually its lolacat who said something about EK families Correct I didn't say anything about emirates staff just that I've found the residency a bit antisocial - I suppose a bit lifeless is what I was getting at -that now seems a good word to describe it?!? Sorry to interject here but i live in these villas and i really find it sad when a distinction gets made about residents dependent upon their employer. There is no difference between EK families and non EK families, people are people. I have never found a "club" in this community at all, don't look for one. What is more likely is that a lot of the EK wives are not native English speakers and sometimes are embarrassed by their English skills so tend to keep quiet. I have this with a new neighbour who is adorable but continually apologies for her poor English. I have nieghbour's from EK and non EK and get along with both equally. Just start chatting with people and introduce yourself, find others who have children the same age or interests the same, ie walkers/joggers/tennis etc. I'm not so sure about normal as everyones definition of normal is different! Good luck the only thing holding you back is yourself. Hi Lolacat- I know you can't label people just because of their or their husband career thats not what i think - but maybe not all people are open like yourself. Before we lived here we lived on the ranches and i was extremely sociable as too were the rest of the family. Not everyone was from the UK intact here was a huge Danish/ Swedish community who were all lovely- Since living here I have seen/ spoken to 2 neighbors in nearly 3 months ........... ?? Now that is a little strange?? Anyway I shall carry on smiling and see what happens

You didn't sound high maintenance, Just not really clear. Anyway, why don't you invite some of the neighbors and/or mums from school over for coffee. You are a newbie after all. Where I come from it is perfectly normal for newbies to go around knocking on doors to introduce themselves. It may take a bit of courage, since it doesn't seem to be the norm here, but we've all been in the same position, so it will probably be appreciated. And if it isn't, I wouldn't qualify them as "normal like minded". I suppose so...... Thanks for advice!!!! I might have to have that bottle of wine before I do it!!!!!

Sorry didn't mean to sound high maintenance and preciuos because I'm not honest!! I havn't really spoken to many... A few mums and dads at the pool at emirates staff, we are not emirates and when i say that I seem to get the cold shoulder !!! Which is strange as I would have thought that would be appealing?! So I've met a few but not many but nothing further has come from a ten minute chat at the pool. ????

Its just frustrating as when we left the Ranches we had the Villas of SO on our short list- we opted for SO for the communal pool and play area thinking it would be better for the kids and safer ( not keen on having to man a pool every time the kids are outside) seems we made a poor judgment and should not have thought it was the same set up as the Ranches 9 not that people poo the pool there more that people are respectful and in turn respected - I feel we are being used as a scape goat for the past resident who abused the pool and surrounding areas. Im shocked at how many times it seem to have happened in the past but also that nobody else has personally been charged with any fine/cost .............[b'>why suddenly us[/b'> ? What is your ethnicity? British and white ?????

I work at a school here and we have a pool, when one of the young kids have an "accident" in it, we only have to close it for the next 24 hours while it gets a chemical cleaning done... and I know we're following a strict health and safety code approved by municipality. So 10 days, and emptying the pool is not necessarily necessary! Exactly !!!!

Visited Aquaventure recently and as the kids were playing in the childrens area, sirens started to go off and the lifeguards were blowing their whistles ordering everyone off the slides and out of the area, I was beginning to think there was a bomb scare and then we noticed it...a big poo floating in the water! The lifeguards scooped it out, sprinkled in some sort of powder and closed it down for about 20 minutes. The thought of going back in to the area was too much for us so we headed off to one of the other pools. Grosses me out to think of how often public pools must be pooped and peed in!:\: I too have witness this at Atlantis- its a fact that it must happen - not just the poo and wee but just dirty folks i suppose !! but that is the nature of a public pool !! but obviously the health and safety Atlantis is tip top ...... so again seems so over the top with our 10 day closure - Also just seen they haven't even fixed the hundreds of missing tiles in the 10 days it was shut - these are more of a risk to anybody - sharp missing holes in both the adults and kids area- imagine blood in the pool ??????????

Sorry to hear you are having such a rough time (to say crappy would be just too much!). I would tell DSO (in writing) that you will not be paying this fine as it was not your child and as previously mentioned, ask what evidence they have. What bullies! Hope you are able to work this out and settle in. I've found that half the problem with meeting people here is trying to catch anyone out in the open what with summer coming, or alternatively, actually finding a mother at the playground instead of all the nannies! Totally agree with you that I would never leave some stranger to watch my little one. We take our kids swimming at the pool in H block as we can all swim together and a much nicer time is had by all. Smile and wave! Thank you squeaks I might just do that !!!

Purple rain the rule about over 6's only was due to the fact that almost weekly the pool was being pooped in, unreal, but this was the case, so frustrating for everyone else. I've never had a child poop in a pool so find it hard to understand how this was happening but it was and enough to drive everyone crackers. So i can understand why such a rule was made. Sadly it's quite clear that a few residents don't clear up behind themselves or always act in a thoughtful manner so this is why there have now been more and more rules added. Only the other week i saw juice cartons at the waters edge and two mums sitting oblivious, it really annoyed me TBH. Why not introduce your self to your neighbours there are loads of nice people to chat too, also remember that there are a lot of wives in CV who do not have English as a first language but do try to speak if spoken to. I really hope it improves for you. The weekly closing is what I have been told about too- it seems very strange to happen so often and to be honest the chemicals in a pool can normally compensate for any minor blips that happen with swimmer and their hygiene levels. I actually used to teach swimming back in the UK so have a little knowledge and it does all seem rather odd - i perhaps question what chemicals are being used on a daily basis... Very true about people respecting area they live in - and I do- thats why we choose to live on a gated community for the security and the community spirit . I really hope things improve here as its starting to get to me - I've moved by toddler to Kensignton nursery and the school run is now better for DESC and DESS but the daily petty issues are taking the fun out of it and getting me down now. I will try and be a little more sociable it just seems very strained compared to our old community - fingers crossed though

I'm sorry you have had a bad month but the rules are clear, no eating at the pool, so why wuld you find this a problem? Parking, if your car was badly parked blocking the pavement or overhanging the road you will have been told off, this is not unreasonable bearing in mind how any people like to actually use the pavement to walk on or drive on the correct side of the road. The rules quite clearly state no under 6's in the pool for the simple reason every time they go in they seem to **** in it. Evrytime it gets pooped in it gets shut down and cleaned, it takes time as the water goes for testing which takes a certain amount of time. Someone should pay for that. I've always found the security to be great and residents very friendly, which phase are you in? We are on phase one . i agree that rules are rules - but i have never been told by the life guard that under 6s can't swim in the main pool - I know it says that on the sign but i was told by the lifeguard when we first arrived - infact before we took the house that this rule wasn't mandatory and that as long as you were watching YOUR child it was fine. To say that all kids under 6 poo the pool is a little extreme - most kids are potty trained by at least 2.5 I know mine were. Germs get into pools. unless people are made to shower and footbaths used then its a fact that most users except to a degree, but come on how can you say to under 6 they must only swim in a foot deep pool- how can they learn to swim in that depth ? Swimming nappies - bins and a caring community is all thats needed instead of a dictatorship attitude. PS our car wasn't obstructing anything ....... what phase are you on ? are things a bit more relaxed there? it's such shame as the houses are lovely and yes security are friendly thats why i was so shocked at being treated like this ......... i also know for a fact on the Semmar compound eating etc is all ok - even in the pool where there is a poolside snack bar etc ?

Ask them to prove it was your DD by DNA testing the sample! Imagine - it was probably bird poo !!! think how many bird poos end up in the pool over 24 hours !!! ohhhhhh am no expert but i'm not aware of birds that poo black !! and i would imagine the clipboard men would know what sort of poo it was... And if the rules are no eating by the pool then that's what they mean - melon is eating...and tbh i can understand that one - imagine the mess and attracting birds etc..our Ranches pool has the same rule and i've never thought to break it. We go there to swim... well we lived on the ranches for 3 year had tables and chairs at the pool and people even had pizza hut delivered- yes people swim at the pool but they also socialise and spend a few hours if not half the day, so to eat and drink with young children should not be an issue as long as you don't make a mess... and bird poo can be dark too - ps the life guards are the same company emril at the ranches but report to DSO. One of them gave the impression it was potty - excuse the pun to close the pool and would never be thecae anywhere else ......

Oh my goodness, that's absolutely awful. Guilty until proven innocent seems to be in operation here, but how on earth are you going to do that? It sounds like a total nightmare, I'm so sorry to hear about your problems. Its awful - we lived on the ranches for 3 years prior and have never heard such a thing !!! HAS ANYBODY >?????? How did the men know who you are ? Maybe they sent the letter to others as well ? Well i said when i email ed to ask why they had to close - plus we signed in the pool book !! I have asked if others and they said no just me ?? im so angry - plus so many people are anti social here !!! I'm not emirates so i think I'm an outcast !!!??? Sorry OP, that's exactly I did not want to live over there, it's the empire of the micro management by the security guards over there.... plus the anti socializing by the some of the pilot wives who think they are half gods only to be married to a pilot..... and the sign in and out all the time from the swimming pools that close at 7 pm, the too much rules that make you feel that you still at work, even if you do not work in the first place. OP, why don't step up and find out why the assume your house held is responsible for this assumed poo in the pool? if you proved that you were not in the pool that day and did not use it then they can get stuffed. HTH Well i had no idea it as like this i certainly would have reconsidered the move ,,,,,, Has anybody heard of anyone else having a fine over anything Poo or not !!!! just want to know if I'm being used to make an example. Trying to prove their authority ....???

I've been told the 2 year old should go in the little pool and be supervised by the life guard and i take the 6 year old in the big pool !!! What since when can a life guard be solely responsible for a baby in the pool - how can he watch other swimmers and why should i let a lifeguard look after my kids ? its insane - why can't we all swim as a family in a family pool in a family compound !!? crazy !! DUBAI AT ITS BEST !!!!

I had some seriously high DEWA bills during summer, and I'm dreading them again this summer... I find this house doesn't hold temperatures well at all, so like if it is cold outside its really cold inside, and if its warm outside its really warm inside. Just for the living room and kitchen we paid 4000. we have roman blinds on the kitchen window, and we have curtains and sheers. what do you call seriously high?????

Ahhh loads of places in the South - Cote d'zure , saint Raphael, Vias, Provance in general - All lovely - I'm very jelous would love to be going to any of those places - Ardech is equally lovely - I stayed in Annecy in a log cabin on a kind of purpose built park - great for kids - would recommend that- the weather is perfect n August as the South will be hot - possibly 40 !! edited by purplerain on 21/02/2012
