Please tell me too - there's nothing like it is there? Our local Chinese serves egg fried rice with chopped up carrots and other veg in it - CRIMINAL! Reminds me though the day my Dad ordered a takeaway over the telephone - he asked for chicken chow minge! haha !!! not sure i fancy that to eat ....... edited by purplerain on 01/02/2012

Sorry to rant ladies - but there is something plan wrong in joining a forum to self promote your business - then when you get questioned over whether you are correct in your advice you start dishing out personal criticism - then deleting things - HMMMMM I would be very cautios of that certain hair clinic - that was named on here in previous threads ,,,, it seems all is not as it should be ????

It seems the common factor "water" the source of life its self and the one only real fundamental difference that us expats commonly have no option but experience is not to blame. I find it hard to take the truth of what a "profession" in his/ her white coats says - when the answer is an over priced pill. This pill can be bought over the counter in NORMAL countries and ordered online with no prescription. To me it's simple the water here is full of chemicals including chlorine in very high levels- that which are not found in the western world and in extreme heat these are increased again to produce the vast amount of water this nation uses. In turn this gets into the scalp damaging the roots and blocking the hair follicles - causing breakage and /or the hair to fall out... if you color your hair excessively with chemicals and dyes eventually your hair will suffer and this is just a similar effect but on a daily basis.

Have you googled florisene? 90 tablets cost 11 pounds on Amazon. He is fleecing you, big time. But he's right about diet and hormones - but a supplement isn't going to fix your trouble. Yep just seen that myself - ordered 3 packets - lets see how they go !!!

Right then ladies !! I went to the Trichologist today at the Hair spa !!! My complaint was - that since i have lived here - this will be my 3rd summer - my hair has come out excessively between may - sept and his year seems to have started early ,,,,,,, I told him i thought it was the water as i have never had a problem before and always had very thick fast growing healthy hair! I think I've lost about 30 % of my hair although i do have regrowth Verdict as per him !!!! Its not the water ????? hmmm he said the water is unrelated to hair loss...... its all down to HORMONES , DIET AND GENETICS unless you are unwell - well I'm not unwell don't have hormone issue other than the normal and way red meat etc etc ...... he has told me to take FLORISENE which you can't buy here but he is importing in and cost 300 dirrums for 90 tablets . He brings it in from the UK as its the best hair supplement . Now he didn't charge me and did have a look at mohair and scalp with his computer thingy . he was professional but i cut except its not the water ..... it must be to do with it - all the chemicals must affect it the same as over coloring hair etc etc does !!!!! Anyway he gets a delivery of tablets n wednesday so i will try them for a few months and see , he did say to wash hair everyday too - which i thought was against the rule book for healthy hair ? every other day should be sufficient? What do you al think ?????

ladies, stop with the old wives tales.... shampoo makes no difference to your hair loss, it just cleans it! I have some experience of hair loss and its best to get the correct advice from someone who knows. Doctors and Dermatologists only do about 2 hrs at med school on hair, so go and see a Trichologist. There is a new one in Dubai offering free consults to expat women and he/she has a full range of the correct supplements for your hair. How do I know? Like I say i struggled for years before going to see Kingsley in the UK. I think the one in Dubai used to work with him, so girls, go see them. There is so much rubbish and myths about hair out there!! Well, you seem to be very knowledgeable on this topic--thanks for the tips that there is a trichologist here in Dubai. For some that can't seem to get anything to work, that's a great idea. As for myself, since my hair loss (like many other ladies) is not genetic--I am having great results by taking my supplements and eating well, along with certain shampoos and conditioners. If your hair is already prone for whatever reason to falling out, the last thing that you need is tangled, dry hair. Mine was ripping out very easily due to comprised hair follicles and dryness. Do you have the number of this expert ???

We just stayed there for 2 weeks. We did not have to pay for a visa. I can not speak for all nationalities (we are USA) We went to Kandy, Columbo and Unawatuna. #1 Tip. TAKE THE HIGHWAY ROAD from the airport to Unawatuna!!! For some weird reason the drivers wants to go the coastal road. Turns a 1 hour trip into a 4 hour trip of head on traffic and crazy driving. Highway is amazing, brand new and divided by a steel barrier. It only costs 400 rupees or $4.00!!! I would suggest that you go to Unawatuna and stay there. It is the nicest area in the whole country that we experienced. I would not hire a driver. It is a huge waste of money. Unawatuna is only tuk tuk (100rupess / $1.00 anywhere in the town) The drive from the airport should cost no more than 6,000 rupess or $60.00 each way (plus the time saving toll highway road fee!) If you share the van with others coming in and staying at the hotel you should get it for 4,500rupees. EVERYTHING IS NEGOTIABLE!! Any hotel there can arrange transportation for you easily. A driver for the whole day should cost no more than 3,000 / $30.00 if you want to go within a 2 hour drive inlcluding gas and tips are built into their quotes. Any more and you are getting taken for a ride. The quality of the hotsl in Unawatuna are decent. The Unawatuna Beach resort is fine. Keep in mind that even that place will not be as high end as you might want but decent. The beaches are nice just be mindful of the weekends when the locals come out and love to drink and get DRUNK right on the beach. The food is nice too. There is a wonderful curry place named One Love. The best cuttlefish curry of my life. :) Remember to source your money if you want to sell it back at the airport. They will not buy back more than $100 worth without a ATM recipt etc. We got the best price buying dirhams there before we came back versus coming back with our ruppess. You will enjoy it. The people are wonderful :) edited by americanfamily3 on 22/01/2012 Thanks American family .... did you actually stay at the Unawatuna beach resort itself? Im just a little concerned by some comments on websites about it.... i know some are never happy but with three kids i just want a clean safe environment with decent food etc etc - we went to thailand a few years ago and it was not so good. The guys drinking on the beach are they rowdy or just having a few nice drinks ??? thanks for your info - if you didn't stay at that hotel where did you stay and/ or what is the best one in that resort?? ta xx

Unawatuna is really cool...is laid back, relaxed, safe...also has a decent reef, so while surfing is good (and good for learning) the bay is actually far safer (for small people) than the rest of the coastline. Lots to see and do, and lots of places to do absolutely nothing but relax, eat and drink. Great almost Thailand pre it got popular feel to it. Thats awesome news about the new road...have spent upwards of 8 hours before stuck on the old one ;) (peak local holiday and election traffic) Thanks for all your responses - we are looking at the Uawatuna Beach resort ??? has anyone stayed at this hotel and or can they recommend another one !!!

We stayed in a hotel in Unawatuna last Eid for a week and had a lovely time with kids aged 5 and 2. When we were there, they were just testing the new inland highway which should reduce travel time from the airport to south coast to about 1.5hrs - a huge difference - so hopefully that will be in full swing now. Unawatuna was a great place to say - the beach is nice and plenty of restaurants/bars along serving a variety of foods at all budgets. PLenty of fried rice, pasta, toasted sandwiches, etc for the kids. The only thing about the south coast beaches is that they can be quite rough so you need to keep an eye on the kids. Transport is easy to arrange - a driver with a minibus will cost around $50-$60 a day. Try and make the trip to Yala National Park as the kids will love it and the elephant orphanages (about 2.5hrs from the airport) are worth a visit. Can't help with accommodation but I'm sure you'll find something suitable if you do a google search. Thanks for all your responses - we are looking at the Uawatuna Beach resort ??? has anyone stayed at this hotel and or can they recommend another one !!!
