Apart from Howdra, what are the other maid agencies that offer housemaids? I just can't find any.

I wear daily contact lenses and from what I know, once they are in then you shouldn't be saving them but best to ask the opticians.

A Rancher, have been here three years now and this is the kinda stuff that my DH has had to put up with. He is just one step down like your DH and there are about 4 above him that bring in their own colleagues from elsewhere and they are all crocked. My DH will never get a shot in these positions, so we have been looking for the past year and now we are going to get his CV professionally re done. I sympathise with you and sponemonkey I totally agree with you too. Good luck - it all sucks these t#ats at the top.

The municipality vets can look up the owners from their tag records. I just gave them a call when I found a dog and they gave me the owners contact details. edited by frampton on 07/06/2011 O great - do you please have their number to hand? Thank you

I have a suspicion who's dog it is but I don't know her cluster number or name. I will rake him to the vets this evening as I have to work but will put him in the maids room with water, bedding and A/C on - he will be safe there. I will alert our security gate too.

So, DH & me have pretty much decided that we will get a maid BUT I am quite amazed at the lack of information concerning set up fee's and the process. I have looked at Howdra but they are just way too expensive and I'm not going to do that. Obviously lots of women/families have got housemaids so what is the best option in your opinion; to go through an agency, if so, please can you recommend or to deal direct. If I deal direct, please can you explain the process and fee's - I have to get all this information to my DH! Thank you...

Hi rhubarb, thanks for replying. Good to hear that it's just you, DH & dog - just like us! She wouldn't need to walk the dog as I enjoy that myself/great exercise. The house is big enough and when your working it's all the little things that just add up, emptying bins, washing, windows - o everything! But to also have a maid cook and do my husbands rolls for work would be the icing on the cake ! Where do I start and what us the set up cost and monthly wages?? Thanks!

That's great clairehdp, thank you, I had no idea if it was the done thing. Live in JI (I know you used to live there!) so you know the villas are a decent size to keep clean. Is it best Togo through an agency or find one yourself? My DH will be very pleased with your reply!

Hi, my car is coming into year 4 and need to re-register it and do the vehicle testing. We did it at Al Barsha vehicle testing place last year but I seem to remember you can call them to collect your car and then drop it back - does anyone do this and if so can you tell me how you book it? Also what time do they pick it up and do you know what time this centre closes - I just remembered that ours is due and I only have until may 31st to do this without stressing my DH as he leaves everything to me so I hope someone replies back please, please, please. Thank you!

Just been looking at previous threads and noticed that "Carathop" has apple tv and you seem to know quite a bit. Anyway I'll get to the point. We have been using it for about 5 months and it's fantastic! We download quite a lot of tv series so use it every night BUT over the last few weeks it has become really unstable in terms of watching it then it just stops and DH either has to close iTunes then bring it up or reboot the mac or apple tv. Tonight has been really bad and my DH has spent so so much time trying to resolve etc. he seems to think that it's a software issue and has spotted that the signal (or something) is just getting flooded to the apple tv causing it to just bail out. He's going insane just trying all sorts if things like rebooting the time machines and routers etc but he just can't find a solution. Can you give any ideas please as this us just taking over his life in the evenings and weekends. Hope you can help Carathop. Thanks.

There are two of you in this relationship but (and I don't mean to sound harsh) it seems to be a lot about your BF, past nasty ex and the fact he's got two kids, should not give him the right to expect you to settle for the good life, ie. Able to do whatever you want, holidays, going out etc. Etc. - just make sure you get out of life what you truly want and by the way, your not too old - I am almost 40 and still trying with DH ten years older than me, no children at all yet so keep striving for what you want. Good luck!

I know they look horrific, have been doing mine for the last 3 years but it's far easier to do it online. Do you have many affairs back in the UK, like a house? Read through it first, if you don't have anything in the UK then you probably won't have to answer half the questions.

Hi lemon drops, that great, we have no children but just our Labrador ! Have pretty much just found out that the dog would be accepted but quarantined for 30 days only. Good point about tax - didn't know that. The mist important thing for us is to look at housing and some of the estate agent website I've found have been really busy, too much stuff on them which makes it impossible to navigate. Thanks for your help so far :-)

I know there are a few women on here that have lived in Singapore. My DH has a possibility of a job there but I just need to ask aces questions please. I would like some recommendations of real estate agents for renting a 3-4 bed villa (not apartment) and any names of good areas. Just a general background on cost of living and finally we have a dog, he has his pet passport, all valid and also up to date but just need to know if he could go straight there and is accepted (no quarantine or any other strange rules about dogs). Any info from you ladies would be most appreciated. Thank you!

Please use the rent calculator www.rpdubai.com/rpdubai/rentals/rental_increase_calculator.do?lang=0 I will not allow myself to be ripped off. I live in a 4 bed in Jumeirah islands and my LLs agent broke nearly every rule possible, it took a couple of months throwing every shred of evidence from RERA to Ejari and the rent calculator that we totally won our battle because we knew we were right.

Hi Ashleigh! You could try the Cambridge diet. I started this 5 weeks ago. Google the website. You buy your packs of food like porridge, shakes and soups and you have 3 a day, nothing else. You need to drink a lot of water and you can have herbal teas, black coffee. For the first 3 days the sugar cells deplete to nothing and after that it looks to the fat in your body to burn (3 sachets equals around 420 calories a day). They guarantee a loss every Month of one stone (6kgs). Because your body is in "ketosis" (google this) you don't crave food. I just got weighed this morning and in 5 weeks lost 10kgs! Yes there are people that don't agree with this diet because it's a quick loss and some will say that you will just put the weight back on when you start eating food again - well you will but only IF you eat the same way you did before (which is how the weight got there in the first place!). I know it seems drastic but I don't get hungry and already I am so seeing the difference. Good luck in your weight loss but just take a look at the website and educate yourself. edited by Quicksilver6 on 15/04/2011

I have logged onto skywards on behalf of my parents and although they don't have enough miles for the two of them I am trying to find out where or how far they can go with just 15,000 miles. I have clicked on " where will my points take me today" but it's coming up blank (maybe that's telling me something!). I know that 15,000 isn't that much but I would just like a little more info! Can anyone help please? Thanks.

we're frustrated because we don't want to move again (4th time in 2.5 yrs) but upon renewal our LL said he now wants 1 cheque and doesn't seem to be budging. Right, for a start, if you and the landlord cannot come to an agreement on cheques, again RERA Law states that the default is 4 cheques (I did this last year and my LL has agreed the same this year and I'm in a Villa) - please, please, do not be bullied - he can only throw you out if; he wants to sell it do renovation works needs to live in it himself or, you have been bad payers Please look at RERA Law 26 - between Tenants and Landlords - Good luck.

Before you do anything, please check this first http://www.rpdubai.ae/rpdubai/rentals/rental_increase_calculator.do?lang=0 And for everyone else out there, please check this. Our landlord wanted to put our rent (villa) up by 20%, we did the calculator and it came back saying there would be NO rent increase, we copied and pasted it to the LL and he has had to back down and agree to the same amount amount we paid last year. This is RERA Law. Good luck.

The landlord does have the right to give you notice to leave in your 3rd year as is the case that they can also increase the rent by 5% in your 3rd year Hiya, just out of interest tho, did you read this somewhere? Obviously I need proof. I totally get the fact it's their property but I know that you as a tenant have the right to stay a second year with no rent increase and I know that if you secure a third year, they can increase the rent by 5% but in our case we checked the rental table and the landlord cannot put the rent up (which he has agreed to) but this is such a "grey" area in terms of what right a landlord has to kick someone out! If that was the case, tenants would be moving every two years with landlords kicking them out just to try and get more money.

I am currently checking this with RERA but although you say he can give 90 days notice, again it comes back to the same question - why? i thought they HAD to give one of these reasons I mentioned because this is just the whole problem with landlords trying to kick someone out so that they can get more money for it?
