When we joined Etisalat for TV/Broadband the minimal term was 24 months which we had no choice, crazy and insane when anything can happen here in UAE i.e. loss of job. This is still a concern and I believe that if you leave within 24 months you have to pay the remaining months. Has anybody else experienced this? Thank you Ladies...

Currently living in Sas Al Nakheel Village - been here for 3 months and living in a 4 bed villa which is way too big for us and we may look to downsize to a 2 bed villa or apartment. Also since we have been here I have constantly had maintenance out for so many AC issues. So I would like to know if anyone has had any experience with cutting short a lease? I haven't spoken to Khidmah just yet as I wanted some real stories from real people. I think what I've gathered is that I would need to find the next tenant for the property but wondered about the refund of remaining rent, does the new tenant pay to us or Khidmah? Any experiences would be really good please. Thank you :)

Thank you ladies for replying, that's encouraging to hear. He has already lived in Dubai when we took him out in 2008 and then he came back to the UK in 2013. He has kidney disease but this is under control the last 2.5 years and the agent in the UK has already said that this isn't a problem but they need to make sure that he is medically fit and healthy too. Hope it all works out! xx

Due to move back out to the UAE next year and I wanted to know if FaceTime is available in iPads, iPhones etc or has it been deleted from the products? Hi Ladies, can you recommend any good serviced apartments/hotel apartments fairly close to Abu Dhabi Airport - say maybe 20mins drive away? I don't know Abu Dhabi that well and this would be for short term rental - maybe 3 months until we decide where we want to live. Any help I'd really appreciate please. Thank you! ;)

I had this problem in Springs a couple of years ago whereby somebody a few doors down from me was leaving about three dogs in the garden and at times I could hear them fighting - it was a really distressing time. I reported it several times to security who knocked on the door a few times. It stopped for a while and then started back up again after a few weeks later. I was then given a contact for Emaar Community Management whereby I was then told to make a log of reporting this six more times to security and then forward this to the management which I did but unfortunately I was leaving Dubai and could obviously never follow this up. I was only in that particular community a year but apparently this barking had been going on for two years previous and nobody had ever done anything in that time. As you can see the process takes time but maybe you should just go straight to contacting Dubai Municipality or put a letter under your neighbour's door. Good luck...

I've been back in the UK for a year now, never wanted to come back but DH had to find work back here. I've never liked being back and never will - I know myself luckily and I no longer feel comfortable in my own country and I know I never will. We don't have children, I'm 44 and life is just pretty dull here, conversations dull and it's just the British mentality of people I find so depressing. You think the driving in Dubai is bad, I would rather have that than the aggression of people here driving. Crime here is always high, Dubai is safe. We are constantly looking for our route back either Dubai, Oman, Qatar etc. this is your life and really although your children prefer it here; Dubai is a pretty great place to live - they can make their own decisions when they are older - I say go for it if you can - it's a little more difficult for us because of my DHs work being quite specialised. Good luck!!

There is no occassion to tell someone back in the UK who wishes to come back to Dubai "they need to get off" Besides being extremely rude and unfriendly EW is, according to Admin's post in "We've Gone Global" a place to ..."connect women WORLDWIDE" OP you are perfectly entitled to express your feelings on EW from wherever you are in the world. Sorry you are not settling well, I returned three months ago too but am really happy with my decision, it is a huge change after years in Dubai I agree, perhaps not easy for all, I hope you manage to achieve your dream of returning if that suits you best. Absolutely agree! It looks like one of the curt comments has been deleted. I actually asked my DH last night to just concentrate on jobs in Dubai, hopefully he will. I really don't think he is liking it back here himself?

Thanks for all your words of wisdom! Like I said - I've always wanted to live abroad, well let me re-phrase that - I've always wanted to leave the UK since the age of 17 years old! and now we are back, I don't like it - of course I will get on with the day to day life - I've started a new job and although the weather is not what I like, yes spring is around the corner! I do have family within a couple of hours away so no problem there. My DH is clear on how I feel and one day when he finds that star job then we will be off in a flash! Most of my friends are obviously in Dubai so its tough even though I know I'll make new friends here - all in all I'm a switched on "cookie" but my personal desire is not to be here as we all love the lifestyle that Dubai offers and the weather - also I think that I have surprised myself how I actually feel and just wanted to share with all you gals! ;)

I don't have children, however, my DH and I lived apart for 18 months, pretty tough and I finally joined him last year. We have a strong marriage but it did test us. I believe it's even more important if you have children for everyone to be together as a family unit where everyone has the support of each other. I know you are concerned for your DS but (don't take this the wrong way!) don't let one member of the family be the decision to remain separated. Sometimes we don't like change but us humans eventually adapt well. Good luck to you. edited by Quicksilver6 on 08/08/2014

1. You could try Google Maps to find out which roads you need to take and how many kilometers you'd have to drive... 2. Have you looked at Al Mistral Villas in UAQ? Yes I did see these Mistral Villas in UAQ, they look very nice, thanks for that - I know where they are - I've been looking at google maps but its just difficult to get a real feel what would be closer to Al Manama - I used to live in Dubai but it doesn't look like there is any modern villas in Al Manama!

They won't tax you on what you have been earning here. I phoned up the tax office to ask this question and you only start paying tax once you earning in the UK. Don't worry you will not be asked to pay tax for earning here regardless of the tax year. HTH

Royal Canin make special Renal wet and dry food that is available here, if that's any help. That's good to know. My dog is currently on Royal Canin renal dry food. He is only 9 years old and full of life, he is baffling the vets a bit because he displays no signs of the disease, only the blood results tell the truth. I'll contact my vet in the UK and DKC in Dubai.

Going against the grain here.... but you agreed to the 20% increase so you should it all fairness stick to that. I don't believe we should stick to it. It is clear the landlord is trying to circumvent the law by trying to increase by 28% originally. He obviously knew he could only increase by 20% and just tried to see if he could get away with it. Then requesting one cheque is completely unfair. If people don't stand up to these landlords everybody is going to suffer in the end. He is not being fair by any means, so why should we play ball? Then you should not have agreed to it...... yes LL needs to stick to the law and we shoudl stand up to them when they are taking the mickey but as tenents we also need to play fair .... you know 20% is per the rental calculator and you agreed to it... The one cheque is not fair but if you paid two cheques last year, you cant now say four cheques. But he didn't do it within the 90 day LAW !!! so no, if he is playing dirty tricks, then why should the tenant give in? She already tried to compromise with him and it didn't work!

Do you know, I was going to post on here asking the same question today. We moved out of Dubai last year and although we haven't gone back to our home country (we are in a different country in the middle east), we still are able to visit Dubai pretty regulary BUT I would love to live back in Dubai - we shipped all our household contents to the UK last year but I wonder if DH did get work back in Dubai, would we ship everything back out again, I'm not so sure, it cost 25k to do that last year...

But the LL isn't playing ball at all so I don't think she should stick to it, she offered him 20% increase but wanted 4 cheques, he wasn't willing to negotiate so you withdraw and stick to the facts - 90 days - LAW - its his problem now....

Thank you for your input. The point I am mainly trying to clarify is that we don't want to accept any increase or change of cheques, due to the fact that he did not advise us 90 days prior to the expiry of contract. We are currently standing firm that he should not make ANY changes to the contract as he did not give the required notice. I just wondered what people's opinions were on the fact that I said the 20% increase was fine (via email and after telling him he could not increase by 28% as he initially tried to do!) however we had not agreed on the number of cheques. This was done prior to me knowing he had to give us 90 days notice. Is the email binding? Does this insinuate that we came to an "agreement" even though we didn't agree on the number of cheques and didn't sign any contract? Any further thoughts would be much appreciated. Ok, understood - if this was me then I would not get into anymore lengthy email conversations except to say to him that he was out of the 90 days notice AS PER LAW. May I also say, well done for fighting this as I know many friends who have given in as they just don't want the hassle but you have been there for 4 years - it is your home. The less said to the LL now, the better and let him deal with it. So I'm saying that as you said, you will not accept any increase or changes to cheques etc. Good luck.

We changed our contract to 4 cheques when we lived in Jumeirah Islands - as the law states "if never party can agree, then it defaults to 4 cheques" which we told the landlord and he finally accepted. I think given that you have negotiated a 20% increase, it is only fair that he accepts 4 cheques. Let him go to RERA if he wants, the law is on your side so I would stand your ground (as we did). Good luck.

I am 41 and was about to give up hope, until I had my first successful cycle at Bourn Hall Clinic Dubai. I have been trying for 10 years, and have had 4 failed cycles previously. Ask for Dr. David Robertson. I think it is because of their lab or something. It s equipped with this high tech technology to clean the air where they do the treatments before the embryo transferring. the embrologist there actually told me himself that my embryos were fertizliating beautifully and were in good condition. I am due in a couple months. lets hope all goes well. Congratulations! That is amazing and really encourging to hear. I am 42 and also have been trying for 10 years, we are due to do our first cycle of IVF in January (finally!), I wanted to do Natural IVF and had my heart set on that but I had been told by my doctor at the IVF clinic that it is best to do conventional IVF so that will be the route that I will take - I really can't wait as it's been put off for quite a few months now. Good luck to you "ladyrola"!

Hi ladies, it looks like I will be more than likely starting IVF next month. Originally I was dead set on natural IVF, but since talking to the Dr, she strongly suggested conventional IVF because of my age (42). I'm going home for Christmas but when I briefly mentioned this, she said no you won't. I didn't think to ask why as I will be starting in November. Then I started to google the process of IVF and I'm now confused as I thought I would be starting the meds prior to my period - how long is the process and when do the meds start and for how long? Basically how long is the process from start to finish? Please give me some assistance and guidance ladies! Thank you..
