Hi, I feel for your friend and wish I could recommend someone specific she could talk to regarding her situation. But I am only aware of LightHouse Arabia who offer free general support groups for dealing with the loss of a loved one in the form of Raymee Grief Centre, which is a non-profit community initiative. I did call them up and they have asked if your friend could please contact them directly and speak with the staff of Raymee Grief Centre. They might be able to recommend a counsellor who can help your friend. LightHouse Arabia (Raymee Grief Centre): 043809298

My dermatologist recommended Cetaphil non-irritating cleanser for dry, sensitive skin. It's available in most pharmacies. If all else fails and no soaps or cleansers seem to suit you, just try a home-made remedy ideal for your skin type. I have very sensitive skin, so I frequently use almond paste instead of face wash, but I wouldn't recommend it if you have nut allergies! Just grind some almonds at home, rub onto wet skin and wash off like you would normally do with soap. Works like a charm and the almond oil is naturally moisturizing.

Claire Bjerkan used to take Pilates classes in Al Areesh Club near Festival City. She now conducts yoga-fusion (fusion of yoga and Pilates presumably) classes at her villa in Garhoud. Her class at Al Areesh cost around Dhs40 but I have not yet attended classes at her place so no idea about the cost. If interested, you could try calling her on 0509113147 or email her at: [email protected] Best Pilates teacher I had in Dubai was a lady named Carol who used to take classes at Al Areesh. Pity she had to move back to the UK as I have not been able to find anyone as good as her.

sarahlou123, here's a quick update for you. Got my maxi dresses back and turns out that Society Tailors are the better option as they specialize in western clothing.

Sure, will do :-) I went ahead and gave both of them a maxi each to see who does a better job. I'd also brought back some material for dresses as it's much cheaper back home. Now have to wait and see how the dresses turn out

Thanks for your reply, FairyDust. I did use most of the creams and ointments for over a month as I wasn't getting any relief. The only thing is that the gynecologists here had not been able to diagnose it as warts and instead thought it was possibly a boil or sore, so that might explain why their creams didn't work. It was only back home that a gynecologist said they're warts, but she did not recommend any creams (she said they wouldn't work anyway) and advised me to get a cautery straight away. At that time I was due to travel back to Dubai, so I wasn't able to get it done as I would have needed a few days rest afterwards. As for HPV testing, the gynecologist in Dubai did a pap smear in May which thankfully came out clear. Am now thinking of trying a homeopathic remedy before going ahead with the cautery..

Has anyone here experienced warts in the vulva? I noticed what looked like small boils outside the vagina last year that were causing mild discomfort and saw several gynecologists here who gave me all manner of creams to apply. I finally got it checked by a doctor back home who said it's warts and will need cautery (burning off). If anyone can recommend a natural way to heal them, I'll be very grateful as the thought of even minor surgery worries me. Anyone tried a homeopathic remedy that worked? TIA

When I needed a thyroidectomy, my doctor (Dr Ihab at City Hospital) had advised me to get it done back home. I think that was good advice as my case was complicated and required long-term monitoring. Also, if anything went wrong, I wanted to be on home turf. In cases of malignancy, you want to be sure that your doctor / surgeon will be around if you need them again and that is not always the case in Dubai. However, if you do chance upon a really good surgeon here, pls let me know as well. HTH

Can anyone tell me how I can go about finding wholesale tailors? Am thinking of starting my own business for abaya-style dresses here, but so far have not found any good tailor in Dubai who charges less than Dhs150 for a simple full-length dress. mrsb. you had mentioned wholesale tailors. A little help please?
