Where did RuthM say all day pupils are neglected and fed on McD's every night? She just said you can find neglect in any home, and not all parents who send children to boarding school do so to be rid of them.

They need to look into why everything is so much more expensive in Dubai especially when its always being touted as the Shopping Capital of the ME, with huge sales/discounts/bargains to be had.

Have you spoken to your daughter about her teachers' behavior in a non-obvious way to see if your DD has been affected or noticed anything herself? Sooo many teachers here not fit to do their job.

Buying second-hand car seats is not recommended as you have no idea of the history.... True. Yet there are hundreds being sold and bought online so obviously there is a big market for it. Why pick on this particular poster for doing the same?

I wish I could help, I have 2 and both are in use, I had one extra that I sold on souq ages ago. I send positive vibes for you to fight on and not give up! It's a harsh world when a woman has to fight against the familial judgements of those who think they know better (when sometimes grandparents DONT know it all) only to have other women attack her with their own preconceived notions. If you haven't got anything nice to say, say nothing! But that would mean a particular posters post count would be zero! OP please don't let it bother you about the skint comments, although it must be hurtful. When your DS is safely strapped in on those highway travels you will find it was worth it.

The flying poop in slow motion, that's motherhood in a nutshell right there. I haven't had that exact experience, but countless others like it where I am so exasperated and fed up that I can only laugh. You just change your milk/food/spit/vomit/pee/poo stained clothes, keep calm and carry on.

lol yes it is, sniffing bums is part of good parenting! I confess I actually did this today at lunch with friends and commented at the time that I was looking forward to the day in my future where I no longer had to sniff or wipe little people's bottoms anymore. I do usually try and make it look like a cuddle but really its pretty obvious even with the best of efforts. What else are you going to do, leave your baby marinating in poo? If said mother had confirmed her suspicions and proceeded to change the offending smelly bottom right there on the restaurant table then you might have something to complain about. Baby marinated in poo... farting steaks.. what restaurant is this??

Definitely acceptable. It's a long procedure to go to the changing rooms only to find it was a waste of a journey especially in Dubai where the toilets are never close by. I don't see why it makes anyone cringe, your not sniffing anything, mind your own business. Even before I was a mum it never bothered me, you do what you have to do and its as simple as that. If you don't like it look away or get a table away from any potential bum sniffers. But what if the bum sniffers choose to sit around your table? Having been a bum sniffer myself 2 years back for 2 years I would have appreciated a fresh nose on some occasions to confirm the crime as after a while it all starts to smell the same. You ordered the farting steak too? :)

Pre children I would have said absolutely not, that's disgusting. Post children I say, yes it's fine and far better than sticking your finger down there and getting a nasty surprise. Have you ever read Hannibal? Considering how often my children fart, if I took them to the bathroom to check their nappy every time I smelt something I wouldn't get to eat a thing :D I once had a husband like that. What, he went number 2 at the table ?

As kids we also got used to seeing cats with their tails chopped off, half length or just a stub left. As its an aid for this hunting animal and acts almost like a vital balancing limb, you realize these poor cats have been left handicapped just for some barbaric youths to get a few laughs. You never see maimed dogs, though, the cowards know they cant take on that many teeth. Oh no, its rabbits, kitten and cats for these macho sickos.

I was in another Gulf country where the thing to do to show off was to tie a dog to the back of an open wagon and drive around. I cannot forget seeing a beautiful, Doberman clawing desperately as it was flung about the back in 50 degree mid-day heat while on a leash. What a way to treat your 'pet'.

No matter how sick the sight makes you feel, just drive over them and be on your way. There have been countless accidents, with serious injuries and fatalities, from people avoiding cats. I know what I would rather do, save my life/a child in my car/other drivers around me instead of driving over an already dead cat. If the cat/animal is still alive, I don't know what I'd do either. I have a sick feeling its a teenage cruel game going on these days which doesn't bear thinking of, to account for these cats being found in roads they'd never dare venture themselves.

Did a 17 hour journey with a 2 year old and I have to say I think it depends on the personality of the child also, and how they react to the effects of a long haul flight. I got many little snacks, as healthy as possible, to not add to the sugar rush madness in an enclosed space, and lots of little games and toys (stickers, travel games, mini puzzle, etc) from a dollar store type of shop, plus the ubiquitous ipad/games console/dvd player and we kind of managed it pretty well.

Congratulations mrsb., I hope everything goes well at the first meeting! I also think some Bateel dates, a shawl or camel milk chocolates will be a nice idea. NOT to digress from a very nice thread but someone else was wrong when they wrote it is allowed for a Muslim and non-Muslim to marry (my personal opinion on this has nothing to do with the stance). A Muslim man is only allowed to marry women of the Book which includes Christian or Jewish women. For women this is not legal under any circumstances. Hope that clears up any misconceptions.

Thank you Big Blue, yes it is a very individual process... I assume some of the other non-BC schools will be more flexible, however as my child's older sibling is already enrolled in this school I am kind of stuck. Unless I explore other options... !

Hello Dubai 13, I know Blossom ELC takes kids until they are 6 years old; there must be several other places i"m sure. Also check Hummingbird ELC, I think they may have the option. What is your location, so we don't recommend places that are too far away? DD is an early September baby and we're planning to keep her out of school for another year; although there are schools that would have happily taken her at just 3. I have noticed here in Dubai some cultures (if I could use the term broadly) are much more in favour of starting early, they almost see it as proof their child is smarter and more capable. I don't subcribe to this view and to be honest I want my child to enjoy each stage of her life to the fullest and to be a toddler for just that little bit longer:-) Hi Big Blue, if you have decided to hold your child back a year, and will put her in FS1 in Septemeber 2015, does the school have a say in it? Will they insist that the child should go into FS2 as its more age appropriate, or do you have a say in it? I ask because my DD is June born and I am still a little unsure, I would rather hold her back a year so she will be over 4 in FS1 in 2015, however the school says they will just put her in FS2 then as its more age appropriate. I was wondering if parents have a say in this or not, is it ultimately the school's decision. I did ring a few schools, like JESS, JPS and JAPS, even though I know they are chock full, to ask their policy on this and they all said she should be put in FS1 at 3 years, 3 months. She only turns 4 at the end of that academic year - in June, she's behind all the year through!

It is not always a given that second will also be pre-term. If you can, hire a maid or get family to help, hand over child no 1 to that help, try to trust that for a few weeks, the first child will be fine, and then put your feet up. By that I mean strict bedrest, only shuffling out of bed for toilet breaks. Novels, internet, prayers, meditation, knitting, anything to calm down your body and mind, and God willing you will be full-term, why not, it can happen, be positive! I wish you all the best, every little baby deserves all the time it requires to grow safely in mum's tummy.

A lot of the mums have been quite appreative of everything Repton, especially early years, so your DD may settle in well. Maybe someone will come along and give you a new update, as most Dubai schools are very up and down for some reason and older searches on this forum may not be reflective of whats taking place now.

Nanny abuse cases were the reason I suggested a well run daycare with web access at all times your child is at the venue. However I know there are very good loving helpers available too, it just depends on who you choose and how it all turns out. When it comes to your baby never skimp on good quality care, you'll get what you pay for.

Two classes per year? I think you may be in for a bit of a shock. Not only does Repton have many classes per year but also a good many students in each class. How many does your daughter have in hers now? I hope the R mums can come up with other amazing things about the school that would neutralize this piont for you. Did you do a school tour before you picked Repton? Or googled images for the school to get a fair idea of its size.

I would suggest taking a couple of years off, the little years really do go by very fast and they are never quite the same once they are no longer babies. I agree with those who say that a year or two should not have much of an impact. It also depends on what offers you have received and weigh that against what you feel you will give up to attain a career and whether its worth the time it will take you away from baby. For starters take it at six month blocks and when you reach the end of it, see how you feel, and how well the baby is doing and take it from there. Also I would recommend a well reputed, clean day-care run by trained professionals, rather than alone with a babysitter/nanny all day at home.

What language do the Jews speak if its not Hebrew? I always thought that was the spoken language. Beckham also has a tattoo in Arabic as well, coincidentally, his wife's name. I dont have any opinion either way on tatts, but, being quite flighty, I always wonder if I choose something whose novelty may wear off pretty quickly and the tattoo remain for life, with me not liking it anymore or wishing I had chosen something else - what then!

I was recently walking past Bloomingdales and was asked if I would like to try one of the Tom Ford perfumes they were promoting. Within the hour I had returned to buy the perfume I tried as the scent was amazing. Apparently it's their best seller they can't keep it on the shelves, it's White Suede very unusual and memorable. Noir et noir also by Tom Ford is very nice. Im also a fan of Jo Malone and Coco by Chanel ( my husbands favorite) Hope your special scent is memorable when you discover it. Let us know what it was :) By any chance did it have strong notes of jasmine? I had the exact same experience, couldn't get the fragrance out of my head, didn't go back though :(
