Interesting. DD is 8 months old and has taken to grabbing my nose and pulling REALLY hard, she also whacks me in the face. I also thought it was a lack of co-ordination but she thinks it's totally hilarious and, I've noticed, only does it to me, not to her daddy. Shall try saying no... am already working on showing her how to stroke mummy's face, rather than smack it lol. I tried (fake) tears last week and she thought it was the funniest thing ever *sigh* little tinker.

Love Isla, Ava, Ella, Skye, and also the more old-fashioned names; Elizabeth (Beth), Grace, Sophie etc. Niamh is also lovely but I guess that's Irish? I went for Isabella and we call DD Bella for short... For some reason (possibly the film Logan's Run!) Logan for me is more of a boys name...

Am also a fan of SMA Gold since switching DD (now 3 months) from Nan HA. She's much happier. We're back to the UK for the summer so I also wanted something I could get there without problems. We've not had any issues finding it in Spinneys/Waitrose as Kelly_C says, although at first I could only find the small cans and as it's more expensive than some of the other brands (since it's imported) I do try and stock up on the big (900g) tins if I find them. Also I've been told (by DD's paed and a midwife amongst others) that S26-Gold is the same as SMA Gold if you can't get the latter - it's certainly less pricey - however DD really didn't seem to like it and so we've abandoned it and gone back to SMA Gold. She also loves the readymade cartons and they're v convenient if you're out and about. :)

Hiya TwoKids Would love to see your routine, thanks! Would also love to meet up, just let me know when is good for you. We are in downtown Burj Dubai, near Dubai mall. Am happy to travel but unfortunately don't drive (learning is a priority for this summer's trip to the UK!), whereabouts are you based? DD and I are doing much better but haven't yet nailed the daytime naps - getting there though :) edited by Reidly on 04/05/2011

Ladies, just wanted to say a huge thank you for all the replies and advice. Plumie you are right, I already feel tons better just to have admitted I am struggling and need help. Last night DH did the dream feed and slept in the room with DD and I slept separately - definitely the best and most restful night's sleep I've had since the birth (and without any tablets) and consequently I am much happier this morning and DD is being a little angel and smiling and cooing away at me in her bouncer. I have also contacted Cecile in the hope she can give me some tips on DD's daytime sleep. Meanwhile I shall definitely be contacting H.A.K and if any of you are anywhere near me (I'm in Downtown Burj Dubai area) then I would LOVE to meet up or come round. It has helped so much to read that other mums have struggled with similar issues and that I am not alone. I have honestly looked at some of the mums at the coffee morning and wondered what I am doing wrong as they seem so sorted. And as you say DubaiCat, given that DD was sooo wanted and so long in arriving I just felt terribly guilty that I wasn't revelling in the first few months and as though everyone, even friends and family, were judging me (I know, how paranoid!) Ecossedl and MegDXB, I have the Dr Karp and agree it's amazing! DD has been swaddled for her night time sleeps since she was born and I'm sure that's a large part of why she sleeps so well. She is not so keen on it during the day though. I also give her a dummy during the day to calm her down/help her sleep but she can't keep it in her mouth and isn't interested in her thumb. Anyway a massive and heartfelt THANK YOU again. :)

Interesting starsouthern, I didn't know that. It was a friend who recommended the NAN HA and I hadn't done much research as I had expected to be bf. It makes sense to not have DD on HA as neither DH and I have any allergies so no reason to think she would need it. We have an appt a week today with the paed so will discuss then but for now I've switched her to SMA (as of Sunday afternoon) and - fingers x'd - things seem much better. DD is still suffering with wind bless her but the farting has subsided and hopefully the poos will be better. Think she is a tiny bit constipated at the moment but DH was blessed with a poo yesterday and said it was more solid (TMI!) than previously. Am also using Infacol and that seems to help. Thanks everyone for the feedback, much appreciated.

I am a big fan of Dr. Karp and swaddling too - but how long can/should you swaddle for??? DD is 7 weeks and sleeps really well (swaddled) at night, however she will not nap much during the day not even when I try swaddling her and putting her in her moses. I read somewhere that once they reach 7/8 weeks you should stop fully swaddling them and just doing a half swaddle (under the arms), think due to the possibility of overheating and risk of SIDS. I really cannot imagine DD going for this, she is already fighting the swaddle during the day - and when she's in a tantrum she can already work her way out. Any thoughts?? She is very determined, I have no clue how I will get her to sleep at night without swaddling at this point.... Thanks in advance :)

Ooh suit with inbuilt nappy sounds good - can I ask where you got that? I am thinking of getting the disposable huggies swimmers but haven't been able to find any in DD's size.

LOL jeniawwad! My DD is 7 weeks on Thurs - we should meet up. I do remember suggesting all us Feb due date ladies should meet up for coffee but that was, of course, when we were still pregnant. I only have the one child but there are mornings when I can barely get dressed :) I did go for a swim the other evening when DH got home. Wore my maternity swimming costume and it wasn't too bad. Won't be getting the bikini out any time soon though. Thanks for all the advice on taking DD swimming. Once I've hunted down some swim nappies we're all set!

I will have a look for the Marc Weissbluth book thanks. DD will fall asleep in her bouncer or swing but then wakes upon transfer to her moses basket. I guess I could leave her in the bouncer/swing but worried that's bad for her back! We will persevere with the daytime naps, she is very determined bless her - I think she is worried she will miss out on something exciting if she risks a sleep! She always falls asleep in her car seat and generally in the pram so guess the key is vibration/rocking... thanks :)

Thanks ladies. Meals - thanks for the tip on the huggies nappies and meant to say that DD has a trainer seat thingie by zoggs that will support her in the water, not water wings as definitely agree she is too weeny for those. As she is 6 weeks she's had her first lot of vaccinations (BCG, Hep B1 & 2) so I think she should be OK but will ask the midwife just to be sure :)

Nothing - and due date is tomorrow! :( I saw Karen today and DD has somehow managed to turn herself round the little tyke, so now has her back to my back, a lovely, awkward position that apparently means a longer, more painful labour, great! So I have some exercises to do to try and coax her back into her previous, perfect position :) I think they will induce me if I go 7-10 days beyond due date (God forbid!) but that sounds fairly horrid so drinking lots of raspberry leaf tea and eating pineapple (?!) to try and persuade DD to make a natural appearance. LOL the drama of it all! How are you getting on with DS 2Blossom? I really want to meet up once DD is here and we are confident enough to be out and about. Let me know how you get on with the Baby Cafe if you go!

See I have the opposite problem - DD is really not much of a kicker so I am constantly paranoid that I can't feel her and that's something is wrong!! Whenever we go to the doctor or the midwife she's fine and the heartbeat is good and strong etc, but sometimes I wouldn't mind sacrificing a night's sleep to feel the little tyke kicking me nonstop! She feels huge though and I get big humps all over my tummy in the evening when she is squirming her way into some new and awkward position. Ooooh I just can't wait to meet her :)

Aw Meals bless you! Our little one (our first!) is due on Thurs and MIL & FIL are already here! Fortunately they are staying in a hotel as like Yasmine and Tahm563 I don't think I could handle family staying in our quite small appartment at the same time as having a brand new baby! There were a few insensitive comments the last time they were here (in Nov) so I am a teeny bit wary of how this visit will go but I am pleased they are here as know it means a lot to DH. My own parents live in Canada and a combination of costs and my mum being not too well means they won't see the baby until the summer - July probably - when I plan to be back in the UK for a while. I am massively disappointed about this and I know my mum is too but it makes the best sense for everyone if we wait and then she can come stay as long as she likes over the summer. It sounds as though your parents and parents-in-law have phrased things badly as much as anything, I bet if you were back home they'd be over like a flash. :)

I used the Clearblue digital sticks too and thought they were great. As RosyPosy says, very straightforward - it's either a smiley face or nothing at all! I always tried to get mine when I was in the UK as they were loads cheaper there than in Dubai but if you are ordering from the web then you don't have that problem! Only other thing I would say is that once you've established that you're ovulating don't leave it too long before seeing a doctor if nothing happens. I must've used the sticks for a good year + before I finally figured out I should go and see a specialist. I should add that I am now 3 days from my due date with 1st baby so it's all good and everything worked out great :) Best of luck.

Hello ladies! Verrrrry quiet on this thread - how are you all doing?? Any news from anyone?? I am 39 weeks today and am sooo ready for this little girl to arrive! Saw my doc on Tues and am not dilated but cervix is nice and thin so everything's ready - eeeek :) DH and I don't know what to do with ourselves! We are technically ready but I keep getting myself in a right old dither wondering whether or not I will recognise the onset of labour - LOL, everyone, from my mother to my best mate, assures me I will. Let me know how you're all doing, is anyone due on Monday as I'm thinking a Valentine's bambino could be cute :)

2Blossom you always make me feel better - thanks for this post ;) Everyone, from my mother to my best mate, has told me I cannot fail to know when I'm in labour but I am still nervous! Tonight, for example, I have a very hard, distended tummy and low, crampy pain but I'm not in pain, just feel very uncomfortable. Now I'm fairly sure this is not the start of labour but am still very relieved I'm seeing Dr. Nataliya tomorrow morning so that she can check me out and reassure me I'm not actually about to give birth!!! I think if I'd been having severe BH for the last couple of months it would be easier as at least I'd be sure about what a contraction feels like! Anyway, massive congrats to you for having such a well-behaved labour and delivery - am sure I'll scream the place down which would be VERY embarrassing! Have also heard a few horror stories about what the poor midwives and doctors can face when ladies are in the midst of delivering - at least they've seen it all before in case I do anything unmentionable, LOL! Stovetop, hope you're feeling more comfortable about things too!

Er no! I am 11 days away from due date and SO excited but also SO apprehensive. Have to say that I've had a really easy pregnancy so far so it's been quite enjoyable plus been TTC for a few years now so just bl00dy delighted it's finally happened and praying everything will be OK with the labour and with my precious baby!! Am really nervous that I won't recognise the labour pains when they come - my friends think this is hilarious and say I will know for sure, but I don't know if waters don't break and I don't get the show... anyway, think I am getting mild Braxton-Hicks but again, not quite sure!!! Anyway, it's fair to say I have my share of freak out moments LOL, luckily DH is VERY calm and practical so hoping the big event happens at night when he's here with me. :)

Can't remember how long it took to get here, would have had it delivered to DH's work address as never had any luck with stuff being delivered to our house. Other option is to have it delivered to someone in the UK who can bring it over for you? I always pay from my UK account is the other thing. And yes, Imolinar, I wore my normal bikini for ages but towards the end the bottom started to ah, slip a little! Couldn't swim in safety so invested in a maternity swimming costume to spare a few blushes... :)

Dear God that is ridiculous! 4 kilos is nothing! Do they have really small babies or something?? In my experience Lebanese women are very glam so maybe this reflects their need to be back in shape shortly after the babies are born... but even so!!!! Blimey thought I was doing well at just over 12 kilos but the midwife was quite stern with me last week when I hadn't put any weight on since the week before and DH is constantly accusing me of under-eating. LOL, 4 kilos I just cannot get over that. Thank goodness we are living in Dubai! :)

Yeah me :) I watched the trailer for The King's Speech earlier - and was welling up. Now I'm sure it's a great and moving film but it's not Watership Down for goodness sake! Crying at everything LOL, hormones are all over the shop. And I am massive! DH commented yesterday that the bump looks like a giant egg, nice. I am quite glad that most of the weight gain is on the bump though. And I am 38 wks on Thurs so really not long now! Had a slow waddle to Dubai Mall and back which was OK. Might try for a swim later this week.

Thanks for posting back so quickly 2Blossom, and very reassuring to hear that your experience at Medcare was a good one as have been a little anxious :-) You mention Dr. Nataliya visiting on Day 2 - does that mean she wasn't at your delivery? Anyway, good to hear that the hospital staff were supportive, esp re the breast feeding. I think my nesting instinct has properly kicked in as just spent half an hour instructing DH on where to put up pics and mobiles in the baby's room and our room so that she has stuff to look at, bless her! Now am going to repack hospital bag LOL, and see if I can actually stuff in my toiletries. Am thinking that the fact it's so full probably means I am taking waaaay too much stuff ha! Jeniawwad, LOL at your cartoon marathon. My mum used to do the same with my twin brothers - we watched a lot of feature length Flintstones in our house - one day of tv definitely won't do any harm at all! Glad your mum is arriving imminently, the last thing you need is your other littlies sick when you are so close to giving birth!!! :)

I was wondering how you were getting on - sounds as though you are doing really well. ;-) Can I ask how you got on in the end at Medcare, was labour and delivery OK?? Also I am not sure if you are breast-feeding, but if you are - did they have a lactation consultant at the hospital who was available to help? Good luck with everything and maybe see you at the bumps 'n' babes morning at some point in the not too distant future!

Morning, how is everyone getting on? Jeniawwad, are you still waiting? I am due on 17th but not sure if I will make it til then. Feeling OK though apart from being very, very large now and having to waddle slowly rather than walk! Reading lots of books on bf as am lucky enough to have stopped working. 2Blossom and Dollymud, hope you are getting on brilliantly and enjoying your precious new babies, can't wait to meet mine and finally feel ready(ish!) for the arrival! DH is back from his flying visit to the UK - phew! - and very pleased that I obeyed instructions to not have our first baby without him, LOL! Enjoy your little bundle of joy and maybe see you at a coffee morning in the not too distant future :)

Hello.Kitty thank you, you are absolutely right and I am aware I need to have that chat with DH. He knows how important it is to me that the baby is with me the whole time but I also know he's nervous about seeing me in pain (or at least in labour!) and disagreeing with docs/nurses who he views as the professionals. He also thinks I am over-reacting about potential issues with post-natal care - maybe I am but I prefer to be prepared! I appreciate the advice and will also have a chat to my doctor about my preferences.

Hi DaisyD I am also due to give birth at Medcare in the next few weeks. May I ask who your doctor is? Mine is Dr. Nataliya at Coopers Clinic, have been really happy with her throughout and as far as I know am on course for a natural (vaginal) delivery but am aware of Dubai's high stats for c-section and anxious that I might end up having an emergency c-section, if that is the case I have the same concerns as you regarding being able to bond with the babe straight away. I also want to breastfeed and have heard that the best way to get this off to a best start is to have the baby suckle right away. It is our first baby too and although I trust DH to fight my corner I would be much happier knowing that the staff at the hospital understood my preferences from the start. I have printed a birth plan off the internet and filled in the basics... but not sure if they place much stock on them here?? For sure I will mention to my doctor that I want to bf right away if possible, stay with the baby and have her room in with us etc as haven't so far. Good luck with everything, interested to hear how you get on. :)

Very exciting, congratulations to you Dollymud!!! When is your actual due date? Mine is 17 Feb but I can't imagine I'll last that long, baby is carrying lower and lower and I have started to get crampy pains at night (braxton-hicks???), it's my first so am pretty clueless but hoping I will make it to 37 weeks at least! According to the midwife the head is partially engaged already... DH is away on a flying visit to the UK next week so am under strict instructions not to pop until after he's back, LOL. I do wish we could all have managed that coffee morning before the LO's arrive, will have to be after now! :)

Has anyone had any luck with bra-fitting/shopping for nursing bras? I went to M&S today to try being fitted and the woman there told me I was a 36B, I consider this highly unlikely as currently in John Lewis 32F and was a DD prior to pregnancy!! The 32F bra still fits sort of but I have heard your boobs get massive once breast-feeding and don't really want to have to guess my size! I will go for a 32F and order online if I have to... but if anyone has had any positive bra-fitting experiences would be good to hear them! No doubt it's the hormones but the total lack of good customer service in M&S today really annoyed me!!

Hey Jeniawwad Same thing happened to my friend with her first and is totally fine apparently! I would love a sign that mine are getting ready for milk production! I am definitely up for coffee, either before or after the birth (still got 6 weeks to go) so please, anyone that wants to meet do let me know. I'm on [email protected]. I also went to one of the Bumps and Babes meetings and had a similar experience Sapphire99 so would be nice to have a few of us go, less intimidating! Also I wasn't very pregnant at the time, only 19 weeks I think, and found most of the ladies were either heavily pregnant or had very new LO's. Hope everyone is well. Good luck with everything 2Blossom, am interested to know how you get on as we have the same OB and are checked into the same hospital, sure all will go smoothly! :)

Thanks very much for the hints on what to take and for the reassurance on the breast-feeding which has made me feel more confident! Our antenatal classes were with Karen too, but finished later than yours 2Blossom so couldn't have been in the same class. It is nice to meet you all on here and I regret not getting stuck into this thread earlier now. I understand that a lot of you already have kids (or are on bed rest bless you!) but just wondered if anyone fancied meeting up for a coffee (decaf of course!) at one of the malls in these last few weeks. Am not working at the moment and am sooo bored. Would be nice to have a natter and useful to compare notes maybe as we are at similar stages? ;)

Cool, hello to you all. I am also under Dr. Nataliya at Coopers 2Blossom, you weren't in my antenatal classes were you?? My due date is Feb 17th so am a bit behind you though. I am happy with Medcare and trust Dr. Nataliya so hope all will be good. The questions I have are all a bit trivial I'm afraid - e.g what sort of thing do I need to take in my bag to the hospital, will they help me with breast-feeding (sooooo nervous about that!) and (sorry for this) any thoughts on where I can get some respectable PJ's to wear for the big event?? Exciting, exciting! Have a fab evening ladies! :)

Hello ladies I am very late to this thread as quite new to EW. I will be 34 weeks on Thurs with my first baby, super excited and can't wait to meet the little one as we've been trying for quite some time now. Have tons of questions (as no family here apart from DH, similar to lots of you I guess?) so am having a good old scour of EW as it's a mine of information (such as last week when DH called me and announced he had shingles, yikes! All OK now and haven't developed it but still, good to be able to ask advice when you're panicking like crazy and your OB and midwife are both on hols!!) :) Can I ask if anyone is due to deliver at Medcare?
