Bassam is now practicing from Kinetic Integrated Health Centre, Al Wasl Road. He's the best osteopath I've use and trust, he even worked his magic on my newborn DD to help with breast feeding and tongue tie. He makes you feel so comfortable and is great with kids!

A very helpful thread, just a couple of things to add... The immigration office is Al Jaffilya, you need to go to building 15 (almost directly outside of the metro station) for the out stamp with the required documents. Ladies, remember you husband must be present! The immigration office at the airport is on ground floor (arrivals), T3 as you enter the building... far right hand side. To save you hassle like I had, if you have an Abi Dhabi visa (don't ask) then even if you are flying from Dubai then you need to get the out stamp (letter) from Abu Dhabi. At least I have now been to each of these locations so I can share this info with others who find themselves in a similar situation. HTH

I'd go with where is most conveniently located for you. I went wit Al Zahra because it's the closest, don't want to be negotiating traffic for appointments and when I go into labour!

Hi, congratulations!! I'm due November and booked in with Dr Yamini at Al Zahra.. Good news for you is you have plenty of time to chose a doctor you feel comfotable with. I had to wait over a month to get an appointment with Dr Yamini! Just research hospitals covered under your insurance and then look at the list of doctors, then you can research them indivually. Good luck!!

Hi, I used metformin for about 8 months whilst ttc, it didn't appear to affect the pcos at all but after a while did help to reduce blood sugar levels which is what it's for. I'm no expert but I think taking alone will not help you conceive. Your doctor will need to treat other signs and symptoms to help you along the way such as checking your fertility, your hormones at intervals during your cycle and treating accordingly. My doc also changed mine for the daily 1000 slow release, that's much easier to manage. Still trying here so I know how you feel! Good luck. HTH

Congrats! FYI, there's no waiting period on health insurance now, all health insurance companies must provide for maternity. Not sure if that helps at all :)

Thanks ladies, I've had Hashimotos disease for 15 years and only recently has more information of relevance to me started to surface. Many other sufferers suggest finding out if any foods could be a root cause, I just want to eliminate any and all posibilities so I can try to become more comfortable in my own body. I saw one test advertised for 1600 and thought it could be worth it although reading your comments did make me think, the lady did say it would give me a full report from a simple blood test taken from my finger so I could have it done anytime. Would you suggest I look at a more comprehensive test? Thanks

We were plagued by those miniature ants too. We found by watching them carefully there was always a trigger, one or two would come in looking for food, could be a small crumb or something, once they find it the little scout would send a signal back to base and then more would follow like a little army. My advice would be to give everything a good clean and watch carefully where they come from, spray the common entrance places with ant spray. Also have a look around the building structure, if there are any cracks outside, you could spray yourself or get pest control to do it. You'll need to be vigilant to the point of paranoid about cleanliness and sweeping up after meals etc. until you have them under control. After that you will just need to spray in those trigger locations occasionally or if salt works like the previous poster then use that but I urge you to find out where the entrance points are before you end up thinking its the whole place. For our flat there is one huge crack on the outside wall which runs right through into our kitchen, then ants track more often than not start in one location under our kitchen cupboard. Ive also had an incident where kids have dropped ice cream or food outside our apartment, the ants find it and then also come scouting into our place. Sorry for the long post but I know exactly how you feel, they are everywhere, trick is to make sure they have nothing to come into your place for.

All money raised from this went to charity! The performance was a bit off nevertheless as the money went to charity I'm not going to complain.

Hi I have an under active thyroid which I've had for over 12 years - since moving to Dubai I've been seeing Dr Taher at his clinic, they specialise in hormones. Honestly, it's no MediClinic in terms of set up but Dr Taher is lovely and really knows his stuff - he knew what was wrong with me as soon as I walked through the door. I even continued to go to this clinic even though they are not on my medical insurance (AXA), luckily I can claim some of the costs back. Personally I guess it depends whether or not you have health insurance and want to utilise that, or if you want to find a specialist in endocrinology who you can trust to know what they are talking about - one of the benefits of being here in Dubai - so many specialists to chose from ;)

I didn't feel overly cold but I was wearing a cardi -There were lots of kids running around wearing costumes and dress ups, some sleeveless- they didn't seem too worried. I would recommend you do take a jumper or cardigan just in case- more so for the AC than anything else ;)

Hi, we went last night - I parked in the DWTC main car park - cost AED20 which I didn't think was too bad as it was really easy to walk down into the complex. My friend parked in the outside parking on the other side of 2nd Zaabel Road which was free parking (just cross the bridge) - both of which are sign posted for 'Disney on Ice' parking when you enter 2nd Zaabel Road. I didn't notice the restaurants close, everything was all pretty busy until late (we had Burger Fuel before going in). They have hot dogs and chicken shawarma, drinks etc inside the venue. The show was amazing - let me know if you want to know anything else

I don't often post here but I read the op post and was gob smacked that anyone would even suggest the lifeguard look the other way. I've been a lifeguard for over 17 years and whilst I agree staring is not comfortable for the swimmer if the lifeguard only has one or two swimmers in the pool it's all they're going look at and exactly what they should be doing - just like the other posters have touched on - lone swimming is actually the most dangerous of all - competent swimmer or not! edited by Rescue11 on 20/06/2014

I used Snoopy Pets to move our two cats from England to Dubai last year. They were brilliant, even sorted us out with alternative pet crates last minute as the 'airline approved' ones I got were not allowed. We took them to Gatwick Airport cargo and both cats were delivered to our apartment the next day! They flew with Emirates, my only annoyance was the lack of care and attention they received in Gatwick Cargo and it would appear they were not attended to during the flight either so they both arrived very dehydrated :(

So you think I can get it in any good Pharmacy? Sure. If I am right that Thyroxin is levothyronine sodium, and is the same as Eltroxin, you can get it at Boots, Aster, and many others with no prescription. It is behind the counter, but no scrip is necessary. Yes, levothyroxine for an under active thyroid. Just I haven't registered with a GP yet and will need to get some soon but figured I would have to buy it over here either way!

Correct. I have also found it more readily available under the brand name Eltroxin in 2 different doses. Interesting to know. Thanks
