Hi, Any recent reviews on Wellington International? This thread is old, and overall I've heard good things about it, but any experienced mums here? Thanks! My children have been at WIS for nearly 10 years now. Eldest one started in yr 6, finished his IB last year May, DS2 is currrently in yr 12, started WIS in yr 4. Child no 3 started in yr 1, currently in yr. 8. So we've seen the whole school, every year group apart from FS. My youngest will be leaving WIS at the end of this academic year as I feel WIS is no longer the same, friendly, happy school that we started with. I do not like the atmosphere anymore, and am not too happy with the massive teacher turnover that seems to be happening every year now, not too mention the leadership team turnover. In the past 9 years we have had 4 different principals/CEO's. However, the teachers and the curriculum are very good, which is why it is such a shame that a lot of the good teachers leave so quickly. My DS2 who is currently in yr 12 (IB diploma) has some great teachers who are absolutely willing to go the extra step to help the students. My youngest, however, is not very strong academically and I feel the pressure on getting top results is getting too high, despite WIS being an all-inclusive school. The atmosphere for her is too stressful, and the class sizes do not help (at least 27 in a class). That being said, the achievement centre and all they do for children with learning difficulties is absolutely fabulous. I cannot comment on primary anymore as I only have children in Secondary.

Hi Sylvia, My 18 yr old son took driving lessons at Emirates Driving Institute (Al Quoz). According to some reviews I read online, they seem to be the best. That said, after taking his driving lessons I found he was able to technically drive a car...but had no clue about road behaviour or rules as it isn't really what they taught him. The first month I had him driving everywhere (school run etc) whilst I was sitting next to him telling him how to take a roundabout correctly, how to look further ahead than just the car in front of him, when and why another car has right of way, etc. etc. It was nice for him to have his license here though as after a while he was able to go out on his own. That said, I am glad he has to retake his license back home so he'll get used to traffic with bikes, trams, pedestrians etc all using the same road (they don't acknowledge the UAE license there). I cannot recommend an instructor though as I can't remember the name of his instructor.

Top man has some shirts with superheroes (incl. captain America), but short sleeved. Haven't seen any long sleeved. Don't know what size he needs though, as top man is adult sizes only. Otherwise indeed maybe Virgin?

Yes, absolutely. In fact my DS has just gotten his license here. For the first two weeks he has only been driving when I sat beside him, but he did drive everywhere with me (school, shops, garage, getting petrol). I am a lot more confident now that he knows what to do, and he has been going out in the car on his own now. He absolutely loves his new found independence of going somewhere on his own. If he has to go somewhere new, and he doesn't know the roads yet, I go with him the first time (drive the car back while he takes a taxi on his way home). If he goes out on his own, I want him to let me know when he's arrived somewhere, and when he's leaving to come back home. At least that eases some of my worries. But I keep thinking back how my mum must have felt when I got my license and the trust she put in me that I would be responsible and careful. My poor mum! ? And am a lot more appreciative of the fact she did let me go. He will have to retake his license back home as the UAE license will not be transferred to our home country, and as he is not residing at least 185 days per calendar year back home, he couldn't even get his license there. It is very scary to let them go, and I keep telling him he needs to learn to anticipate what's happening on the roads, what other drivers might do...but the only way to learn that is by driving.

Marroosh, I'm in Holland at the moment and storm yesterday was bad! But today it all cleared and we have had a sunny day again. Temperature is around 20 degrees so it was again a lovely day. Although they do predict rain for the coming 3 days as well. But I'm sure you'll have a chance to wear your new long skirt :)

I was actually reading this year's GCSE higher paper maths for a student with extra provisions. The first paper had some really hard questions but then there were also a number of questions that required just required logic and structured thinking. They were okay to answer (I could still remember how to do it, even though I haven't done any maths for the last 25 years ) But my DS who sat his maths a year early, and is very capable at maths, did find the first paper hard as some of the questions were really complicated and took a lot of time for the students to answer. I know the teachers actually thought the first paper to be really hard as well. The second paper, which they did last Thursday, was easier, according to him. The higher paper they did at DS' school (Edexel) didn't have the question about the sweets, so it might have been the foundation paper. The higher tier paper did have a probability question like this one, but I think it was quite do-able.

I just hope this lady reads my message and realises that she actually was in the wrong lane. Sadly it happens on a daily basis and I usu take the most left lane to go 3rd exit of roundabout into the ranches, precisely for this reason. Today I just happened to be on the middle lane. People going straight on that 3rd lane are usually speeding over and it's gonna go really wrong one day :(

Besides having it checked by a doctor (sorry, can't recommend one) maybe try and and massage your breast gently towards your nipple. And maybe it might be possible to have your baby drink when she is half asleep. They usu have a little more patience when they are half asleep. Before you latch her, try and stimulate your breast for the milk to come (don't know how you would call that in English, but stimulate until you feel that prickling feeling which means that milk is coming). Which side of your breast is it? Is it possible to latch your baby with her chin towards the sore side? It might be a 'clogged' milk gland (gosh I wish I knew the terminology in English )

I have just been to Emirates Park zoo and we were out within the hour! The aquarium was smelly, all animals were cramped in small enclosures, loads and loads of pigeons, some on their own in a tiny cage...we were not impressed at all! We have been to Al Ain zoo as well, and did love that one! Animals had lots more space and nicer enclosures. The only downside to Al Ain zoo were the restaurants/food options for us humans  I had two very hungry teenage boys with me and a slice of pizza or a Donut for lunch just wasn't enough. So when you go there, be sure to bring a nice picnic.

I did a shoot (well, made my children do the shoot) with Pink Pepper as well. Got it as a freebie when at a fair. Decided beforehand that I would just take the free picture as they were so expensive, but when seeing the results from the photo shoot, I decided to buy some more as they were really, really good. So yes, I do find them very expensive, but am really happy with the (digital) images I got. Printed one image off on canvas, one on an aluminium plate and both look amazing. So was worth it for me in the end.

My DS used to sleep so deeply that he wouldn't wake up for anything, let alone to go and use the toilet at night. We used the alarm which woke me up and not him. But as it woke me up (every night!) it gave me the chance to really wake him up and take him to the bathroom. The alarm we had came with a whole set of instructions: - agree on 5 different code-words that he needed to repeat when I woke him up for the bathroom (we used names of friends,or his favourite toys) Change the words every week. - make sure he was really awake when he went to bathroom. Having them go to bathroom while half asleep doesn't help them. They need their brains to make the connection between 'having to go' and 'needing to wake up' - keep a sticker chart (and write down the times at night if it does go wrong), maybe there's a pattern - don't withhold them from drinking before bed. It doesn't matter how much or how little they drink before bed. It's their brain that needs to make the connection. - be prepared for a couple of months up to nearly a year for training their brain to wake up if their bladder signals full It took us at least 7 months but in the end my son was completely dry and has never regressed.

Thank you...shame, would've been so easy as she used to live here. So knows the traffic, roads and directions. Guess she'll have to rent a car.... :( Madge_Gustard, she still has her UAE license as validity is 10 yrs. but I assumed she can't use that license anymore as she doesn't have a residency-visa anymore. Do you know if that indeed is the case? Can't really find any info on RTA website. edited by Rotetho on 05/10/2014

Friend of mine drives a Ford Explorer, absolutely loves it as it even seats 8. Very spacious. I have a LandRover LR3 which I love, and it sits 2 adults on the 3rd row quite comfortably. Love the fact that it only needs to go in for service every 12,000km instead of every 5,000km like most cars I used to drive a Nissan Armada, which again is very spacious and sits 2 adults on last row comfortably as well. And even with the seats up there was enough space left to put all school bags, shopping etc.

I have once spoken to a lady on Expat Woman craft market at Dubai polo club (2 yrs ago) who made her own glass beads. Would it be possible to find her name in the Expat women Fair-archives? Anyone who knows where I could find such a workshop?

My friend just caught a little dog running down the main road in front of the Palmera's, going towards Motor City. He looks like a Maltezer. As my friend had to go to work, I have the dog now in my spare bedroom as I can't keep him anywhere near my own two dogs who do not get on with other dogs. Vet is not yet open to see if he has a chip, but maybe someone on here is missing their dog? Have you posted also on the FB page of Arabian Ranches plus K9? If it's a Maltezer, must surely be a pet I would think (hopefully just escaped not abandoned). Just about to....my friend brought dog here half an hour ago. But yes, will post pictures on the ranches FB page. Thank you.

Holland is a country with endless amounts of cycle paths, but also all users on the roads are used to cyclists. There will not be any problem taking your children cycling. My children used to go and cycle to school on their own by age 7 (we were in a little village though, so not much traffic). There is plenty of books with routes to go cycling, but have a look at this website: [url=http://www.nederlandfietsland.nl/en'>link[/url'> There's an online route planner and lots more information. HTH and have a fab time if you do decide to go :)

I can definitely recommend using My fitness Pal....it's helped me loose 32 kgs in the past year, next to going to the gym a lot. Of course you have to be honest with yourself, and log truthfully everything you've eaten. Getting out kitchen scales and weighing your portions will help, as our eye perceives portions to be much smaller than they actually are ;)

I have a 16 yr old DS and I would definitely not let him go to brunch without any parents there. Went to brunch at one of the JBR hotels couple of weeks ago. Was a group of youngsters, who apparently were celebrating someone's 21st birthday :o Well, if that boy was 21, my DS would be 30....no way there was anyone older than maybe 20. DS recognised one of the girls from school, she is 16, same age as him. And all, each and everyone, at that table was being served alcohol, they were sipping on Corona's, had cocktails and mixes. All drunk, couple of girls had to hang onto each other so as not to fall and that wasn't due to their high heels! So no, I would never let my DS go to a brunch with his friends here, the ramifications are too big here even if he wasn't drinking any alcohol, but just was present with other teenagers breaking the law. A brunch without any alcohol, yes that would be a great idea :)

Hi Nadiya, As my daughter battled with severe constipation, she was on Movicol. Our GP back home prescribed it for her and said it is not addictive. What Movicol does is merely keeping fluids in so your stool doesn't dry out, making it easier to pass. It doesn't make your bowels 'lazy'. DD has taken it for 6 years! And is now off it completely and no more constipation. I think Movicol is a good way for you to first get over the initial stages of constipation so your hemarroids might get less. Then start looking at what might cause the constipation within your diet. Hopefully, once your hemarroids get less the itching might subside as well. It must just be awful :(

Hi Flydiver, My DH has gout as well....he hasn't seen a doctor here so I can't advise on any or give you a recommendation. But my DH thinks he can drink red wine or eat red meat up to a certain point and then his gout will come up. We have a friend that gets gout from bacon, so it could be different triggers for everyone. Keep a food diary for DH, that might help figure out what food triggers it. But might be as well like my DH that gout will only appear after build-up of 'trigger food'. Luckily my DH feels his gout coming up, as it starts with a mild pain in either his big toe or his ankle, so he can take meds as soon as it starts. A few years back GP (back home) prescribed him meds with colchicine, but as you cannot get it here without prescription he just takes Voltaren which seems to do trick as well.

:) But still I can get an attack out of the blue, even though I've avoided all my triggers....I'm not sure it will even be controllable :( But can't complain at the moment :) I hope you'll find a way to control your migraines soon as well...it's just debilitating when you're having a bad migraine-attack :( I believe the nasal spray is a triptan, and I don't seem to respond to them, apart from nasty side effects! None of the other common migraine tablets seem to prevent an attack. Wow, you have certainly mastered the art of controlling migraines...well done you! Migraines are dreadful, but unfortunately can be triggered by so many different things for different people. My triggers are: chocolate (esp. with nuts in), old cheese, any alcoholic beverage, smoke from cigarettes, loud music with lots of bass. I also need to keep a very regular day/night schedule, meaning I need to go to bed around same time every evening, but also getting out of bed around same time every morning (so no sleeping in :( ).

I also need to keep a very regular day/night schedule, meaning I need to go to bed around same time every evening, but also getting out of bed around same time every morning (so no sleeping in for me :( ). I take Immigran 100 tablets, and take one tablet as soon as I feel an attack coming on. If I take it any later, it will not really help. Recently though my migraines seem to be less bad, and much less frequent. I think this has something to do with my work out regime...I've been working out 5 days a week and really, really sweating it out. It's as if I get rid of all toxins that might give me migraines. To the OP, maybe keeping a food/environment diary might help you determine triggers? For me the nasal spray didn't help unfortunately, whereas the 100mg Immigran does help (but 50mg didn't help either).

Ginnee, it's same kind of spread as peanut butter, but without nuts as it is made from speculoos-cookies. Guess you could use it same as peanut butter (although I don't think saté sauce will taste nice when made from speculoos cookie butter instead of peanut butter ;) )

Am in Holland at the moment, and they sell speculoos cookie butter in any supermarket. Am happy to bring back a few jars if you can't find any ;) Not sure though if the taste will be same as PQ or Trader Joe. That said....speculoos (or speculaas as we call it) and the cookie butter is invented in Belgium which is just round the corner ;) so it will be the 'original' Lotus. [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speculoos'>link[/url'> You can get the original cookies (speculaas) in various shops around Dubai....Spinneys quite regularly have them, but also Marché in Ranches (guessing Geant will have them as well). So if you can't find the spread in shops, you might put a bit of butter on bread and then put some cookies in between :D

I've asked Fitness First in Motor City if they could not do sort of circuit training for teens, but they don't want to give membership to under-16s. Apparently they are not covered by insurance should anything happen while a teen is training without a personal trainer. So I don't think you'll be able to find a gym that allows teens in without PT.
