For those of you with a hot tub… do you employ someone to maintain it or do you do it yourself? How often and how much shock chlorine do you use? Thanks so much :-)

We used Writers on one of our moves. They were great and everything was wrapped and packed to perfection, far better than any of the other companies. It was only inter middle east so no long haul process involved. So cant comment on that as it came by road. Hope all go's well.

The parking is this area is so inadequate it's absurd. I can't count the number of times I've attempted to do my shopping after work only to give up after 45 minutes of circling and go home and order a takeaway. This is why Spinneys have an undercover car park….

I suppose they have to do something to stop ppl from parking there....so close to the carpark... and when you are trying to cross the road to the legal bays the other side you have to step out into the road to check if anything is coming 1st as you can't see!

Thanks for pointing out where the list was.. had looked! Obviously not well enough :-)

There is a thrift shop at Holy Trinity Church, Oud Metha Rd (next to DESS junior school). I don't know if they would have what you are looking for. Always fancied taking a look and dropping some bags off... Can anyone direct me, not got a clue where DESS junior school is. Thanks

In the co-op in Al Barsha at the roastery the guy will blend 2 different coffee's for you to get the right strength and also add the cardamom and spices as you require all together.

Unfortunately Dubai Zoo has been a huge no, no to visit for years now... There has been protestors and allsorts over the years. Hopefully once the Safari Park is eventually built the poor animals will be transferred and at least lead a slighty better life... :-(

TB has a lot of good advice.. I definately 2nd the water thing, we only drink room temperature water and another thing is the temperature of your A/C in the house really should be set on no less than 24/25 degrees in my opinion otherwise your body go's from freezing cold to warm all the time especially in summer. I think we all went through a period of this when we 1st arrived. Hope think improve soon :-)

If you are in Dubai then you will be better to cross at the Hatta border. Sunday morning I would say will be fine... it does not take long to jump out and fill in the form, pay the 50aed/5 rials and you are on your way. Do not forget to take your car insurance document which should cover Oman.

Entry requirements Visas If you’re a British citizen, you can get a 30 day visa on arrival. You can extend this for a further 30 days by visiting an immigration office in the UAE and paying an extension fee. Don’t outstay your visa or you will be fined. If you hold any other type of British nationality (eg British Overseas Citizen or British National (Overseas)) you will need to get a visa from the UAE Consulate before you arrive in the UAE. Passport validity Your passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of entry into the UAE. If you hold a residence permit, your passport must be valid for at least 3 months in order to travel into and out of the country. Sorry I copied a bit too much... but it is there at the bottom edited by roysie on 29/09/2013

I only use Posh Paws and have done for some years. They collect and deliver for a small fee but they are also happy for you to go there and look at where your dogs would be for boarding. Ours come back clean, healthy and very happy.

Help! We are going to Oman tomorrow for a 5-day holiday. Our car is insured for Oman but we have lost the Arabic letter of permission. Of course the insurance office is closed until Sunday, grrr. Can anyone give me some really clear guidance on how to purchase Omani car insurance at the border, as all the info I have is 'next to petrol station' but where is it, and does anyone have up to date information on how much it costs? Do they even check these days? Last year we had a hired car and had all the necessary documents, and they did examine the documents. Thanks for any help! I assume it is Hatta?? You can buy the insurance for a week from the office just before border. It is a tiny white very tatty office/shed right by the petrol station. You cant miss it... they are hit and miss if they ask to see your insurance. The last few times yes we have been asked literally and we said yes but never shown it. You must make sure you always have the insurance anyway... I used to live in Oman and they do pull over foreign plates to check. edited by roysie on 02/08/2013

Blue Downy and never dry anything outside as the fibres dry too quickly and also fade! All my clothes are as soft as when I bought them. Towels & underwear get a quick 15 mins in the tumble when they are dry to keep ultra soft.
