We moved to Dubai in 2001 and went back home in 2009 we recently moved back again and I’m regretting the decision. You can’t choose the right school for your child you have to accept the first one that offers you a place, the maid culture and attitude of some expats drive me crazy, being on holiday here is lovely whereas living here is frustrating, the weather is draining, the packages are not as good as it was a few years ago etc. In my opinion most people come to Dubai to work to afford a better life elsewhere, we intend to go home soon because we want the children to live in a normal environment. whats normal anymore??? Children IMO are far more safer here than in most places... I will be staying here as long as possible to protect mine...

I agree with roysie, you can find some nice things there. In particular I used to get a lot of things for my daughters, I think they have a great selection for children, especially babies and toddlers. ;)

Cant you ask the school/s? edited to add I am under the impression (from overhearing the woman in the swimming pool on holiday???!?!?!?, interogating a young girl from DC,) that 12 students went from DESC. In fact I am sure all the people around the pool know everything there is to know about this woman and her opinion on DC, other schools, AR and more. Incidentally we were in Sri Lanka at the time ;-) edited by BNBH on 26/04/2012 BNBH... how cringeworthy for you. On your hols too... no need!! :\:

It is an amazing hotel... on its own penisula. It is quite a way out from the sights but within easy reach. Mutrah (harbour and souk) around 25 mins. We used to take weekend breaks at this hotel when we lived in Muscat :) http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g294007-d302117-Reviews-Shangri_La_s_Barr_Al_Jissah_Resort_Spa_Al_Bandar-Muscat_Governorate.html edited by roysie on 11/04/2012

Posh Paws Animal Sanctuary is located close to Al Zubair, Ajman, exit 84 just off the Dubai Bypass Road E611. Very very easy... after you come off at exit 84 their gateway is located around 3 km on the right handside

Muslims don't eat frogs (any creatures that live in two worlds), so in a Muslim country your only option is at the non-halal sections. Its because of Kermit's relationship with Miss P!ggy :D

So I wore this lovely white (cotton/linen) dress and DD dropped some melted chocolate on it. I've tried everything to get it out but there is a light (but dark enough to be on white) stain. What color should I dye the dress? I was really hoping a pastel, but someone told me only black or chocolate would make the stain invisible? Also, I've never dyed stuff at home because I'm so scared of my well-established clumsiness. Would a dry cleaner do the job? Use the Dylon washing machine dye.... dress in drum, dylon in drum and follow instructions on which programme to use. Easy ;)

Thanks GM... that looks like a nice one. Any idea on what kind of costing it was?? I cannot remember the exact price, it was something between AED200-AED300/person I *think*. It was about 2 weeks ago only. Give them a quick call and have a check. You'll love the views along the creek - start practising your night photography! ;) Fab... will ring them today. Thanks GM... have a fab day!! :D

I hate to disagree with everyone, but cranberry juice can make matters worse when you've actually got a UTI, as it's very acidic, and if it's sweetened, then the sugars again can make the situation worse. Chamomile is natural urinary tract disinfectant so drinking strong chamomile tea (I know it can taste revolting!) by making it with two tea bags and leaving them to stew can very quickly help - if you have any chamomile essential oil, then this is one of the very few you can apply direct to the skin, or, 4-6 drops mixed in with a teaspoon of oil of any type, it can then be massaged into the skin above your bladder. And use a hotwater bottle! I think anyone who's ever had cystitis and the likes is clenching their thighs whilst reading - you poor thing! ETA the chamomile treatment was originally recommended to me by a gynae/urinary specialist, and I often find that drinking it strong when I get the first twinges will often stop the need for further treatment edited by pinks on 01/04/2012 Thank you... I am sitting with camomile now, lets hope it helps... thanks again

No we did not take maleria tabs as the British Airways travel clinic said that there is no risk in that area. Also you can only get hold of one type of Malaria tabs here and the side effects can be bad... I took the advice of the clinic. If you go to any other area then the story would be different. We went as north as columbo and as south as Galle.

roysie, barley water is an excellent remedy for urinary infection. Boil the barley in lots of water on low heat until its completely cooked through. Strain, throw away the boiled barley and drink the water. You will have to drink at leat 3-4 glasses of this over a day for a couple of days. And like the others said cranberry juice is great too, Hope you feel better soon. wow.. thank you Maple. Can I buy barley from Spinneys/Lulu??
