Gosh, seeing and hearing the birds in our garden is one of our favourite things about living here! Almost the first thing we did when we moved into our villa was to buy a book about birds of the ME, to be able to identify them! There seem to be more birds and bird-song here than we ever saw and heard in our garden in Geneva (apart from crows/ravens/big black birds with evil beaks, which I agree, are vile). We don't even have to put food out for them, the hoopoes dig up worms from our grass for breakfast every day! edited by simpleasabc on 11/05/2013 My goodness you took the words right out of my mouth :-) I love the birds especially when they come and sit on my bedroom window ledges. I love the sound of the hoopoes and how they bob their head whilst doing it...and how the tiny, tiny birds hang on the jasmine... oh well I suppose it wouldn't do to all be the same.

What budget do you have? The 3 bed apartments here in Layan are 120k I believe. *Sheepishly types her budget*.... For a 2 bed plus maids or 3 bed were hoping to pay maximum 95k! 2 bed are 90K

The closest bus stop is at Studio City and then the bus goes into AR (I think) and then down Umm Sequim. With regards to the 'loop', there is a hardpacked path that goes from Remraam though the desert and comes out at the back of Studio City (behind AR Polo Club and those houses there). While it is not an official road, everyone uses it both ways. You don't need a 4x4 to use it. Through the labour camp?

I dont live there but I do live in Layan which is on the 611 also. Remrann is further out as well. You reach it by driving past the Polo Club on Al Qudra Rd and then it is around 5 mins on the 611. The closest you would get a bus from is Arabian Ranches. But then that is a huge loop to get back there.

Can get it everywhere now. Camel milk has a high vitamin and mineral content and immunoglobin content. The composition of camel milk depends on its feed and species: Bactrian milk has a higher fat content than dromedary milk. Camel milk is low in lactose compared with cow's milk. However, levels of potassium, magnesium, iron, copper, manganese, sodium and zinc are higher than in cow's milk. Cholesterol in camel milk is lower than cow or goat milk. Camel milk is three times higher in vitamin C than cow's milk and 10 times higher in iron. It is also high in unsaturated fatty acids and B vitamins but less in vitamin A and B2. Camel milk has more fat and protein than cow's milk.

Shorooq mirdif you can still afford a 3 bed with dhs110 000.(use school bus?) Also Layan villas (next to Arabian Ranches) have 3 beds going for that price but they are snapped up quickly. Otherwise you can move into a 3 bed apartment in the marina or SZR for that amount too. Too bad the prices are going up so rapidly again. I am still wondering who are paying those higher prices as I dont know of anyone getting salary or allowance increases. edited by Appletiser on 03/05/2013 Layan and Sharooq 3 bed villas are now 175,000 and the 3 bed apartments are now 120,000. Sorry. I would try motorckty. edited by roysie on 04/05/2013

UAE Exchange is the one I always use. Better exchange rate and charge 45aed flat rate for any amount. Just take your cash, the beneficiary account number, sort code and address with you. They will give you a card with your own number, then if you need to do again in the future you just hand your card over and info all stored. My transfers are always showing the next day. Hope that helps :-)

I just bought a pack just for the vouchers and will be throwing the booklet away... trash. Wonder if they are all like that or if it was my bad luck.

Thanks debliz.... that's Heritage Touch. We have furniture from there, Marina & Pinkies but they will only stain if its furniture you bought from them. Think they are frightened in case go's wrong! So need someone really who will collect, do the business and deliver back. Not worried on cost as they are pieces that I brought with me from UK years ago.

I think Fida in Satwa will still be the best place to get them. They have bags in several different sizes and colours. They will also supply them to order. Fida in Satwa are expensive for these bags... The cheapest and best bags I have found are in the square by the side of the utensils market by the spice market. All plain colours and in all sizes.

Yes there is a little 'shed' for the insurance next to the petrol station. Easy to do and pretty cheap. Just make sure that you have the registration card for the car with you.
