We went for the first time last night and really enjoyed it. Went with another couple and our kids (all under 3). We mostly ate and "window shopped" (i.e. just browsed and didn't actually buy anything. Lots of yummy things to try. One of those things we'll probably only do once a year unless we have company, but it's better than going to the Mall! Well said Meagle... Could'nt even bring myself to comment on the negative posts about it.. Some people have been 'Dubaied' and can't cope with anything less than a shiny mall with shiney toilets... with the sheer amount of people there, you can't expect it to be perfect. edited by roysie on 17/11/2012

Is the not case at all.... most are transfered to K9 unless there are beyond help. This is what K9 will suggest as they are absolutely full at the moment edited by roysie on 11/11/2012 how can they be transferred to K9 if they are "absolutely full" ? When they have space... again... this was not suppose to turn into a cat fight (as per normal) I just gave the number to the OP.

My Mum got bitten by a stray a few months ago and she went to the clinic for a tetanus and they soaked it in antiseptic and dressed it (was quite bad). I would definately seek medical advice to be on the safe side.

Please get a second opinion on any work quoted at any clinic. If I hadn't gone for a second opinion I would have had 1 unneeded root canal and 5 fillings. As it turned out I felt uncomfortable, went to a different clinic, where they said I only needed 1 filling repaired and a good clean. 5 years later and still no new fillings. I'm not the only one out of my group of friends who went through this. Is this specifically with Dr Madhu or are you referring to dentists in general? He didnt strike me as a dentist who would make unnecessary recommendations. I had x-rays as evidence of my need for fillings and I actually chose Dr Madhu because of his reputation as the "gentle dentist". I felt nothing - not even the injection - during the 6 fillings, and I didnt hear the drilling because of the background music. edited by hilsbils on 18/10/2012 I think she meant in general here in Dubai. Yes its ok... thats how I took it. Is it possible to imagine a tooth twinge when you are waiting for it? :\:

As BettysHotpot says you can go to his partner Dr Christopher, I went to him for an emergency broken tooth when Dr Madhu was away, he fixed it up fine and was very gentle like Dr Madhu. Thank you Di@DXB and BH... thats good to know if I need to sort out before the appointment I made :)

This what I worry about here, just like doctors - the time I have a throat infection and she said 'would you like a liver function test' !! ?? ... but I know that my teeth are ok. Its just this filling that has parted company. Thanks for the warning ;)

I priced a filling with Dr. Madhu and it was from 250 and 100 consultation fee. JLT was much more convenient for me and at 350 equalled his price but without the drive to Karama. As it turned out, I didn't need the filling anyway ! Amelia.. thank you. Do you have the number and clinic name for my reference please. Thanks for your time.

Great.. I think I know roughly. Its sounds silly but just dont like going to places unknown alone. How long to get an appointment normally? and is it cash only? sorry all the questions!! That area can be daunting to navigate the first time, understandable. I usually get an appointment within a week which is nuts because he is so popular. I asked him last time, when he went on holiday last. I don't think he can remember :) I have paid with a card before. The number is +9714 357 1577 Have just rung... have to wait until 31st Oct as he is on HOLIDAY!! lol... Hope I last out that long! Thanks for your help;)

I swim in the sea regular and I use the beach in Jumeira 1. The one to the left of union house (brown sign near Shakespheres that says open beach). It is good as it has a arc made from rocks, it is just like a swimming pool. Completely flat and very clear. edited by roysie on 14/10/2012

She starts on Sunday! Best decision. I feel great about it. If the drive is just too intolerable we will look at moving. Thanks again for all of your help. See you next week =) Daisydai... I have a brand new wide brimmed JAPS hat... would you like it? Its just sat in a cupboard (was uncool for my son)! and a new swimming cap (if she happens to be in leopards/yellow house) edited by roysie on 11/10/2012 Thanks Roysie. That's very kind of you. I am off to buy her new uni tomorrow. 2 full unis in just over 1 month! Eek. I must admit this uni is far cuter than the last. I love the little sundresses. She is in the blue house however so we will have to pass on the swim cap. Stitches is not open on a Friday... you are welcome to the blue hat. edited by roysie on 12/10/2012

Roysie, the buffet at Bab Al Shams Christmas lunch was fantastic, there was Indian and Italian (at least) as well as traditional turkey, roast beef and roast lamb and all the trimmings. I'm afraid I can't remember the cost last year, but will just have a quick look in my old inbox to see if I've still got details. OK, quoting from an email I got from them last year: "Entertainment: Live Band Activities: Santa Claus gift giving, face painting, kids games, balloon art making, kite flying and pony rides Above Christmas Brunch package is at AED 295.00 per person, inclusive of soft drinks and still water. Applicable 50% discount for children from 5 – 12 yrs and children 4yrs and below dines for free. You may avail our Beverage Package at AED 195 per person which includes full open regular bar. Early Booking promotion: Discount 10% Discount - applicable for confirmed reservation made from 1st – 30th November 2011" Here are the contact details I had last year: Nishu Maan Restaurant Reservation | BAB AL SHAMS Email: [email protected] Office: +971 4 8096194 Fax: +971 4 8326698 Al Qudra Road, P.O. Box 8168 Dubai, United Arab Emirates Thanks!! So thats 295 each for food all in and then pay 195 each on top for booze.. am I reading that right??? Sounds like a good price to me if thats the case.

As Basil says, there are plenty of other lovely places to go round here. I'm a huge fan of the Bab Al Shams Christmas Day lunch, particularly if there are children about :) Really lovely sitting out in the sunshine in the middle of the desert, with Father Christmas arriving on a camel :) simpleasabc is it still at buffet at Bab Al Shams for christmas lunch? Does it have the turkey etc, etc? and last of all... any idea of price? Thanks!
