My child is there and we are very happy with the school. They have been incredibly proactive with the issue we had (learning issue) and the support they offered then and even now the problem is solved was fantastic. Facilities are good, teachers lovely, all in all I'll be very sad to leave RDS when it's time to move to secondary school.

I go to Scandic hair in Mirdif. I'm very happy with their services. I do my brows, and they wax or thread, depends what you prefer.

I hope our transition will be smooth, i am up for it, my future bubby is just worried that he wont be able to "braai", here were i live its a big thing to go without, similar like a barbeque. There are tons of saffers here and we all still braai - he can rest assured he will still be able to. You can buy wors and biltong here too. There are tons of SA products available. Good luck with your move.

I don't see a little miss sleepy, but there is a little miss princess which will be easy, all you need is a little crown or tiara, add to that one of the general little miss t's that Bosini has in stock that will be fine. Yes it is Elmpark. I went to Bosini bought my son a Mr Bump T, and he wants to wear a bandage on his head lol, guess that's all we'll be doing for this particular dress up day :-) I've seen that craft shop Kaba, should go look sometime, they're my favorite shops to browse in!

I heard yesterday that the GEMS schools are requesting AED2500 to keep every child's place for September and if existing parents don't pay it they will offer the place to someone on the waiting list. Its AED1500 to be paid by April and its taken off of the first terms fees. I dont mind paying to secure my sons place.

My son pretty much gets the same every day, he complains if I do something different ... Divided tupperware 1/2 grapes other half melon pieces Divided tupperware small plum tomatoes, sliced cucumber Banana 2 rice cakes with shaved grana pedana cheese 1 stick dry wors (dried sausage) 1 stick cheddar cheese Ceres apple juice Quaker oats raisin cookies I vary the fruit, and the rice cakes I swap with arabic bread or crackerbreads depending on what he wants that day. On days when we have a pasta dish he likes to take that for lunch the next day instead of the rice cakes.

We are in Palmera, our dewa bill ranges between 400 and 1500. We love it here, but will likely move next year to be closer to school. The facilities here are really lovely, and there is a great sense of community.

I don't blame them to be honest. We went the day after they opened. People were stamping through the flower beds so people could take photos of them standing in the flowers, and I saw a family with a child around 3 years old allowing their kid to pick the flowers and dig in the soil. At that stage they weren't being strict, but now because of a few thoughtless people they're going to be hard on everyone. Edited to add they allowed my 7 year old in on his scooter only after he promised to stay on the paths only. edited by RSAgirl on 25/02/2013

There is no entrance fee. Not too sure on where you are coming from, but from the Ranches we went up Umm Suqeim and had to do a u-turn to come all the way back down towards the Dubailand entrance. Its badly signposted (as in no signage at all), but the slip road is the road before the Dubailand entrance. That sounded really confusing - maybe someone else should give decent directions lol.

Whatever you decide, just remember to wear shoes that won't sink into the lawn! Good advice! I spent an entire afternoon I sinking into the lawn at the embassy and it was horrible. Not to mention the damage it caused my shoes heels.

I used to babysit my neighbours kids when I was 10, all on my own. She had 3 under the age of 5. As a mom now, I dont think I would have left my son at age 3 or 4 with a 10 year old. But I guess it depends on the child. My son is almost 7, there is no way I could possibly leave him alone. He never thinks situations through and therefore does a lot of irresponsible things. Im thinking maybe 12. But it depends on him at age 12. If he is still a bit like he is now, then I guess older. Much older.

I havent used them here, but I was very happy with the pool nets they did for us in both our previous and current houses in South Africa. We chose nets over a fence because we felt that our son would be able to figure out a way to climb a fence. Its a bit of a pain to take on and off especially if you are swimming more than once in the day. Unless of course you get the motorised one, then it wouldn't be. Hope this helps.

I think you have to be realistic and ignore what your dog groomer says. Get the dogs clipped all over on a regular basis. It's nonsense to get rid of two perfectly good animals for something that is so easily rectified. Buy a dyson animal hover and clean regularly. I agree with this. Maybe try a different groomer. You dont have to shave them, but a trim and a good brush that gets to the thicker fur underneath should make a difference.

Our school is tremendously accomodating for kids that aren't English speaking. Look into some schools, go walk around and get a feel for them and make a decision. I think Nathalie had some great tips too. We arrived here just before my son turned 6, he started halfway through the school year and I was very worried about how he would cope. But the kids here are generally really kind to newbies and we haven't looked back. Good luck.

I have 3 cats that shed all the time, the only thing that has helped is to brush each of them really well every day. It hasn't stopped the shedding, but its far less now.

If you scroll down the left hand side of the screen you will see a 'Pages' option, these will be all the pages you have liked. If you click to the left of Pages, an edit button will come up saying 'add to favourites'. If you add to favourites the pages you have liked will come up (or should anyway - mine do ... it works this way for friends whose updates you never want to miss too). Hope this helps.

How often do you all go back? We go back twice a year, for 2 months over the school hols and 2 weeks in December. Do you pay for a phone connection/internet etc...all year round or do you have an arrangement where you just pay when your back? We use pay-as-you-go data for internet and our mobile phones are on contract, so we use those. How about Council Tax/Community Fees, I'm assuming that if the place is empty then you do not need to pay this? We still need to pay municipal fees. How much does the security system and cameras cost? Dont know, our security system and cameras etc were already installed when we bought the house. Our gardener comes in once a week and so does our cleaning lady. This makes sure everything stays clean and dust free. My parents also pop by and our neighbour keeps an eye out. I love going home to my own home for holidays. Im very glad we did it this way.
