Your package works out to just about 36,000 AED a month. People in Dubai quote their incomes monthly rather than yearly. It is not a brilliant package or even a comfortable package but a doable package for a family of three with one baby. These are your expenses, based on what you described as your requirements: 3-bedroom villa for 180,000 AED yearly 2 cars (a variable but assuming you take out loans or rent): 4,000 a month for two midrange cars, or 48,000 a year. Utilities (varies, of course but let's average 2,000 a month for the villa): 24,000 AED 5% housing tax (payable divided into 12 months): 9,000 AED Internet/TV package: 6,000 a year for a basic one. So far you are spending 267,000 AED Day to day living expenses including groceries, petrol, light lunches out, coffees at Starbucks, cheap takeaways (many variables, of course): 2,000 a week for a modest lifestyle = 102,000 AED across the year. Now we're up to 369,000 AED for the year. The remainder is 61,000 AED, out of which you will need to pay for car insurance, minor repairs, clothing, any holidays, any topping up of health insurance and so forth. A nice meal out for a couple with one or two drinks each at a pleasant restaurant can easily cost 3-400 AED. As you can imagine, you will probably end up spending almost all of it and finish the year with minimal savings. As you can see, it's so easy to spend your entire income just on having a quiet, albeit still decently comfortable life in Dubai. But when the time comes for nursery, will you have the money for the fees? You can pay the fees, but there goes the holidays. Then school starts and you're even in a worse position. What people in your position do is primarily live in flats. Find a comfortable 2-bedroom apartment for 120,000. Your housing tax will only be 6,000 AED. Your utilities will be in the hundreds rather than the thousands. Live in the Marina and avoid a second car. Avoid shopping at Spinneys or Waitrose and buy all your food at Carrefour and you'll save a bit more. Now you can live comfortably enough and save money even with a nice holiday or two each year. Or you accept that you will save no money and treat the next few years as a holiday and plan on leaving Dubai before your baby is old enough for school. Or you can decide to look for a job after taking a year or two off. Working part time is not common and you still need someone to look after your baby so you hire a maid after all, which eats up much of your part time income. So most people end up taking a full time position. DH always used to say that 50,000 AED a month was the benchmark for a family in the UAE wanting a nice middle class western lifestyle. Above that you can live comfortably and save money. Below that (in the 40s) you can live comfortably but not save any money. This is assuming you have school or nursery fees to pay. As you are setting on the path of having a family with possibly future babies, this is something you need to be aware of in the long run. We are in similar predicament should i move over with family to Dubai on package offered. Reading your response made me want to ask what would be a good monthly package deal for a family of 6? I have three school going children FS2-Yr7 age group and am looking between jebel Ali and GEMS first point school I just want indication of what's a good figure to cover fees and expenses and housing and still be comfortable?

Thank you for your reply . It's very heartbreaking and I know must accept it as Gods will but I still find myself wondering if maybe they made a mistake? I know that's not probable as they are experienced and there was no heartbeat heard ? I guess as had relatively easy births and pregnancies before I just never imagined this would happen to me ! Thank you for your response it felt more supportive than what I felt there ! I'm sure to them it's common and a they deal with it automatic responses but sometimes they should remember people are not automatic machines we sometimes can do with a little gentle approach . I feel scared of surgery too now ! But I'm sure it'll be ok . Thank you again for taking the time to reply x edited by S0_IndEcIsiVe on 19/12/2014

Wish drivers would park properly within the lines everywhere. I have had three incidents now , each time very annoying. At Times Square I parked one side near a wall and the other side left a gap for allowing the car seat that fits onto pram to come in and out easily... I come back to find someone thought oooo extra space for them!!! arrrrrgggghhhhh i had to rush to pick up the boys from school , and i couldnt get the carseat back in... miffed as I was, luckily the driver came back and I gave the dirty look and the (duh you're stoopid look and went,) 2nd time at ibn battuta i parked in middle of lines ...again able to take carseat out ...came back and someone parks diagonally!!! again unable to get carseat in... had to try thru the driver side and through my side and place at the back. that driver never came back while I thought through strategies .... 3rd time at the greens choitrams again locking me in so I cant get into driver side and kids cant get in......... they were blades of grass size, but still couldnt get in !!! left a note on that ladys car, but she came back and moved and apologised profusely, but unfortunatley i was already too ticked off to accept any of it... felt bad after as she seemed genuinely sorry

Thank you for all the advise. I am not one of those people whose weight "just falls off" I will need to work my butt off!! I think I will take on the advise of upping my exercise and doing it more vigourously (if possible - im a lazy so and so !) I am trying to eat healthy already and not eating junk food... so I hope I am giving myself a head start in that respect for the weight loss to begin! Im conscious of building the milk supply , as a first priority , therefore am trying to eat enough... hope little changes help ! Doesnt help that I find in Dubai, women ping back into shape 2 weeks after baby!! How do they do it!!? I have seen these women and unfortunately I am just not one of "those" women!! :0(

I delivered there 8 weeks ago. I had a very pleasant experience. The nurses were excellent and my doctor was nice. I loved my stay in hospital for the 3 days I was there, I wanted uninterrupted time with my baby and I felt I got that ( it was my 3rd baby) They do a tour of the maternity ward ,every morning at 9am. For me this helped as its less nerve wrecking if you are familiar with the hospital, room and its facilities atleast. I had no complaints to be honest. (my 1st baby in Dubai, rest were in the UK. The experience was all the same except here you get your own private room post delivery for just you and your baby! )

Im 33 and having my 3rd due end of Nov! I had been debating the same question since 2008. Finally this year I just felt strongly that I should just go ahead....cos once the seed is in your mind it just stays there... now i am pregnant im very happy and excited and my 2 boys are equally as excited (they are 6 and 4) yes we will have to change the car, and holidays , hotels etc will be something to deal with ...BUT I wanted another member to join our family! simple! now i see it as I have a beginning, a middle and finally an end to our family! If you want to - just do it !!

I too found this really shocking in dubai. I have recently become pregnant and the amount of horrible comments , I couldnt believe. Obviously Im bound to gain weight and get bigger - granted I was with a bump earlier than most like at 3-4mths but it happens , nature for me!! anyway been told and looked at funny at how BIG i am , but i wish i could tell them to FOOOOOOOOK off! cos for god sake 1. you dont know me that well, 2. whats it to anyone else how much i gain, 3. keep your comments to yourself ... you wouldnt dare tell a heavily obese lady she is fat in her face!! why tell someone who is average weight and gaining ...its like im open to all public abuse here!! lol

hello, I am due in November also. This will be my 3rd baby. I have two boys,6 and 4yrs old ... we moved from the UK almost 2 yrs ago now (in october). I dont have much experience of hospitals here and would love a lot of advise. I am going to meet with Dr.Braithwaite at the American Hospital next week. Im sure she'll be fine. But I keep hearing about making a rapport with the doctor and all, I thought I just go to the hospital and give birth .... when time comes. I mean in the UK, you rock on down and whichever midwife is on duty - you have her assist you right. I am seeing a Obs. at the Dubai London Clinic and was hoping to carry on with all my appointments with her - should I be swapping over and ONLY seeing Dr. @ AH!? also something completely different. This time round Im almost 33 yrs old, and am greying! so I usually colour my hair. Now Im desperate to colour my hair, but I know in previous pregnancy I didnt need to cover greys, so I jut put off changing hair colour until after baby and then do a new makeover ... but this time, i really want to colour my hair. My question is are you all still colouring your hair? is it ok?

Hello ladies. Im due 25th Nov. this is our 3rd baby. Eldest is almost 6yrs and youngest is 4yrs old. Have had morning sickness (nausea and Vomitting from week 5-present.) Its kinda wearing off now some days but then the heartburn takes over in the evenings!! Could you all advise me on where to have the baby. I have had natural births with the other two and would prefr the same again.. I keep hearing some hospitals lean more towards ceasarians (IM SCARED OF THEM!!) Im thinking of going to Dr.Rajlakshmi at American, after reading few reviews...but any other reccomendations or where you are going so I can have options. This will be my 1st baby in Dubai. We have been in dubai almost 2 yrs now (in oct) what do I have to do exactly. Do u meet with the doctors at the hospitals and pick or just choose someone and ask ur GP to refer you to that hospital? TIA Hope to get to know u more over the weeks !
