DC - Breastfeed ...... its like a wonder slimming drug! Before I got pregnant I needed to lose around 12 kg......then put on around 18 kg during the pregnancy - but after giving birth within a few weeks i could fit into clothes I had from my modelling days ! And this without excercise or time to prepare healthy meals feeding my LO was difficult at first cos he had some issues which meant nipple sheilds etc, and the contractions i expierienced during feedings was really painful ......but i hung in there telling myself .....the gym would be more painful and i couldnt cuddle my baby whilst doing it. When he was 5.5 months we went home where everybody noticed my massive weightloss - and really the only thing i did was bf !!! so baby got the best nutrition possible I hopefully can one day wear the yummy mummy title proudly!

It works - its not easy but after 2 weeks of waking every 45 min I was desperate so I went to see cecile and she advised us to put him in his own room and not respond for 10min - he was 7 months at the time and exclusively breastfed so i was a bit hesitant to leave him the whole night - thinking with the a/c he might be getting a dry throat ..in dubai its hot ....but in the end we did it ..we added an air purifier to his room...and I did alot of praying and crying and praying after putting him in his cot and leaving him all alone in his room..... it took 3 days and now at 17 months he still goes into his cot awake and goes to sleep on his own .... and i still take the time to pray for him .... we dont follow his routine strictly now - but his bedtime routine and associating his cot as the place he sleeps has become so ingrained now that it doesn't matter, life with a little guy that sleeps 3 hours during the day and 11hours at night ...is really just brilliant ...the best thing actually......so when he is awake he is happy, smiley and inquisitive ....when he wasnt sleeping well he was more of a cranky touchy baby ......so just think about that .... think about life with that happy rested baby ..... its soooo good when everybody gets sleep.......life chaning actualy!!! :) Oh one more thing - I also read a book called - The baby whisperer answers all your questions....and the sleep easy solution...both very good, with lots of good practical advice or problem solving techniques to tackle amongst others....sleep problems.....and they very similar to what cecile would tell you ....except when you starting to panick and doubt what your doing ...you cant call them up (on the second day my son statyed quite but after 9 minutes started crying and cried for about 6 minutes....i was home alone ...so every min was looooong ... I called cecile and she stayed on the phone with for 10 min!

Hey you really can stop stressing Our lovely homeaffairs still hasnt sorted out our unabridged marriage certificate - we attested the one we got when we got registered / married at our church before leaving SA and my DH applied for my visa with this one It now almost 2.5years later - although i opted to takes DH's surname - i still have my passport and visa with my maiden name My DS has his passport and visa with my DH's surname and we have travelled without DH no issues Thank you ladies! Now I can at least stop stressing about the visa. One more thing - did you need your birth certificates when applying for the passport? I am still awaiting my unabridged marriage certificate which I will need for the visa and it has been 3 months! Hope I will receive it in time for the visa process as I understand that the normal marriage certificate given by the priest will not suffice. I hate all this paperwork!

Niccy01 congrats - n hope you have a smooth delivery! Also South african - we Got my sons temp passport in a few days - I deliverd in dubai but we abu dhbai residents so got his birth certificate here - but his passports processed in AD His visa is in his temp passport cos we thought we where gonna travel before his actual passport arrived, but that arrived before we travelled - so we just stapled the two together . He is 16 months now - made 3 international trips - each with his visa in his temp passport stapled to his normal passport - had no issues - except sometimes they look at him twice because he looks diff since birth but i guess that can be expected . Happy Travelling

Must be the heat. That ankle thing is terrible. Too bad you aren't SUPER dramatic. I mean you coulda really had fun with this. Screaming, "Call an ambulance, I have been assaulted" and rolling on the ground, while your children cried and pointed at her. I grocery shopped early enough that I had "front row" parking yesterday. A woman wanted my spot (even though it was only 10:30am and the entire parking garage was full of open spaces), so she sits and waits as I unload the heavy thing. She was clearly annoyed by my large purchase and then... wait for it... she starts HONKING at me to move faster. So, I moved normally and then took my sweet time riding my cart like a skateboard to the front of the Mall. She wasn't there when I got back and my vehicle wasn't vandalized. Hey That actually happened to me ! And the person starting honking while i was strapping my son into his car seat! btw - OP .... sorry .... very rare behaviour for a south african ... they normally really courteous ppl.

Thanks ladies - thats alot of good points i did not consider! especially DS catching bugs at nursery and having a newbie in the house at the same time Shortly after signing up for a few classes at fav things - DS got sick and when he is sick he just need lots n lots of extra cuddles. But at the same time i want to be able to give our new addition that same undivided attention without worrying about him getting too jealous - at the moment its just the two of us and we really are doing very well! but i think i am going to finally do it and get fulltime help so my focus becomes the kids

I delivered last year and the amount of hair loss that I've been experiencing is unbelievable. Its like everywhere..and now I can clearly see my scalp from the front. I was searching for hair loss in dubai and found this website http://hairloss-in-dubai.blogspot.com/2011/05/top-5-vitamins-and-dietary-supplements.html...also has some other info... I thought before I try Minoxidil or Nioxin products,I'll start the Recommended Vitamins. Its been almost 2 months since I am taking these and have not seen much result. I am taking Biotin, Msm and Evening primrose oil. Also have improved my diet but until now has not made any difference.I read an article on post partum Alopecia which is basically hair loss after delivery..and they say that hair usually grows back after 6-7 months. But for me its been much longer and I am still shedding loads. It is so depressing....sorry twiglet not offering any solution but I share your pain :( Hi - in your case it sounds like postpartum hairloss I expierienced this almost 3 months after the birth of my LO. and it was bad - i had actual bald spots! my gynea suggested i continue taking pregnacare - i did but like all the sites i came across while seraching post partum hairloss suggested - it does sort itself out My hair grew back and is thick again! my baby is also allot bigger is life is not so stressful anymore all u can do is hang in there - it will get better

wow - I was wondering the same thing My LO is 16 months - and no.2 is also due in Nov! I am trying to decide if a half day nursery might be good for him 2-3 times a week so that he gets to play with other kids in the morning instead of staying at home and watching mommy take care of the newbie and clean house . I also think the first few months with lack of sleep i might stay sane if i can get that extra 40 winks in the morning i would def like to know what other mums in a similar situation did - what worked for thier families would it be recommended to get fulltime help - so both kids and hubby get enough of my time and the household chores get taken care off by a helper ?

True - you should be ultimately responsible for your kids - hence you shouldnt take them to places you know are seriously questionable regardng safety and generally putting the parents and children concerns first/ over profits and mini monsters seem to be a prime example of a place to avoid The extra dhirams you may have to spend to go to other venues - may not see like so much when when something goes wrong with you kids E.g of a place that seems to put the kids first Yesterday we went to fav things in marina mall - it was fairly full - cos thier was a few activities happenign at once - but thier was always someone making sure that the gates/doors where locked and LO's couldnt get out (even tho the softplay area has a strict policy requesting LO to be accompanied by thier minders The cafe is seperate from where the kids play but the glass partition still lets you watch them Thier is staff playing with the kids face painting etc so you see thier are places you can take you LO - so if a for a split second you get distracted the chances of an accident is at a minimum

Two things that really helped me with my son was 1. The BABYWHISPER books They both work on getting our LO into a predicatable routine Helps you look for sleeps signs etc Babywhisper has an "EASY" philosophy Eat Activity Sleep You time after reading this I got my LO to take 2 long naps(1.5 hour) and one short nap (20-40min) in the afternoon while he was less than 12months, We used to swaddle and leave him to look at him fav toy - instead of rocking or bf - it was lifechanging! Now he is 16 months and does 3 hours in the middle of the day - with a 7:30pm bedtime and he used to be a horrible sleeper - waking up more times at day and night than i could count! The other excellent resource was a south african midwife called Cecile De Scally (she works out of little wonder nursery now - i think) Alot of what she advised us - was in the babywhisper book but the diff was with her we could call her when the books did not have the answers - e.g when we started sleep training - i called her when i put him done (he resisted on every level) and she helped me thru it Now my son is an absolute dream - by getting adeqaute sleep when he is awake he is all smiles - no tiredness or crankiness - i actually get sad when i have to put him done for a nap or bedtime sorry for the long reply - but just wanted to highlight the success of following a routine - we are not hard and fast about the routine - we keep to it about 98% of the time - i mean we human something we need to be out when its his bedtime/naptime

I go to Dr Ahmed Syed Rais - he has consulting rooms in City Hospital and KidsFirst Medical Center (in Al Wasl) He was the pediatrician we saw after my sons birth at the hospital and never changed cos from the first day - he actually interacted with my LO even tho he was sooo small - very gentle with kids Would even give out his mobile number to first time mums like me who worry about everything He takes the time to listen and reassure all my concerns (i tend to readup and research everything ) Has allowed with some guidance to rearrange the way we give LO the vaccines (they even trying to get me seperate MMR vaccines - even tho they dont think its necessary - they try to find the middle ground of keeping mum happy and baby safe) He tend not to over prescribe meds Two weeks ago my son had a 40degree temp - it was late so we took him to a the nearb emergency clinic - the ped there recommended a strong antibiotic saying all kds in dubai get scarlet fever thats what he must have even before he was examined! The next morning went n saw my dr ahmed (which i really should have done the first time around) He checked out LO, swabbed n test his throat for bacteria - while waiting for results the nurses called to check up on my son - who's temp had gone the next day!

Highlights the worst of Customer Service in Dubai Instead of simply acknowledging peoples concerns - and understand that if you want to be a successful business you need to listen to your customers and address their concerns even if they don't seem big to you! Instead ppl insist that your concerns arent real ....... It is a real shame they have not listened to us, I am 99% sure that the person who responded to me posted on this thread and was dismissive of everyones concerns, so it does not look like the management are going to listen to our concerns. Apparently, they have a large customer base and the feedback they have is that they are happy with MOST aspects of mini monsters, they seem to think that is enough, but they should be looking for 100 % satisfaction. Not sure they are as in touch with their customers as they think they are............

My favourites where Marion& Alvin ..... Marion for just being an all round super character and cook! And I just cant resist ..... I just LOVE Master Chef Australia .... would never admit this at home ... but this show has even made me want to go to australia ..... Its a competition but the comradary (not sure how to spell that) etc is amazing , realty TV at its best! No back-biting nit picking or unnecessary ugliness but the show is still absoluterly loveable .... v v addictive!...and te cherry on the top ... you actually learn a thing a two about cooking from watching it! Hope you make it to Australia then! Even the final showed competition at its best without the nastiness and back-biting so common on other reality shows-can't wait for them to show Series 3 on free to air here Same here - And its so refreshing to watch a reality show that doesnt raise your BP Australia is definately on my wishlist - just maybe not during cricket season

people feeling uncomfortable but i think its unfounded. i understand but dont agree.......... edited by Leshell on 31/05/2011 Leshell - do you have kids ? ..... or maybe a vested interest in Mini Monster? Just to recap the reasons that ppl are uncomfortable or rather concerns about MM Do you think its ok for older kids to run rampant in the baby soft play area? Do you think the open door (to a parking lot) next to the unsupervised painting area is safe? Do you think that the stories in in dubai newspapers about young children been raped or abused is false and we live in this euphoria where all men around children are totally trustworthy. So parents with more than one kid should just let their children run around MM where ppl that may or maynot be have the intention of harming them We are parents are just doing what parents do - look at every situation - find what could potentially harm our precious babies - then minimise the risk - and in some cases warn other ppl just trying to protect thier most precious cargo Hopefully this post gets to MM and they do a total overhaul of thier risk assesment, health &safety standard and maybe also decided if they want to be a cafe or CHILDRENS PLAY CENTER

My mum actually had this - but it took us years to figure it out We were all in a mobile store - when I notice my mum sitting...and it looked like she was just smiling and watching the people go by ... but when i called her name or shook her she just did not respond - but she looked fine - happy but she just did not respond for a good 5 minutes Years later ... when The loss of her only son triggered full blown epilepsy - and we starting reading up on it - then only did we realise what these episodes where.Thankfully with medication she got better The only thing i can recommend is not to get get angry with your kid - when she "zones out" she might not have any control over it and may be afraid to talk to you about it - if she associates it with getting into trouble I hope you find a good dr that can help you figure this out She was quite the stubborn type - who She may be experiencing "petit mal" in English known as Absence seizures. Read through the link below and see if anything else is familiar with the pattern you are observing. Rather than taking her to a GP for a consultation, my recommendation is to make an appointment with a neurologist (do a search on EW, some word of mouth recommendations are available) to eliminate any serious possibilities & work down. All the best. [b'>http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/petit-mal-seizure/DS00216[/b'>

Never mind the toilet - their is so many levels/places that kids can access that you cannot see, since most people have more than one kid - it very very possible you wont be able to keep an eye on all of them 24/7. Other things I noticed on my maybe 30 min visit to MM older kids run around the baby soft play area - and dont really give the babies a chance - and the staff just shrug thier shoulder at this! The back door was left open ... and my 15 month old DS decides to run to it - i managed to get to him in time ...but as my preggie belly grows i think he will be able to soon outrun me! I just think play areas should be as safe as possible, i think this is the message the OP was trying to get across -and I agree with it !!!

Hey We have a love hate relationship with JBR - we had just one door that opened unto a balcony to let in fresh air but it wasnt enough we used to get some really weird smells - And my little one and I constantly had sore throats despite constantly cleaning the ac and using air purifiers And we had a never -ending battle with roaches!!! arrrgh - the worst part of living there! We now live - just behind JBR in a nice airy apartment with doors that open unto nice balconies - from every room and the lounge - so lots n lots of fresh air! We still walk across the road to go to the walk - and about 2 days ago whilst walking past coco's we saw a few roaches - a few actually - some near the little water feature thing and few by the plants! THe things we loved - But we loved our view of the beach, atlantis and all the activities so easily accesible within a few minutes walk Swimming classes in Amwaj 2 Playgroups - marina mums and jbr sandpit That said - thier are some ppl we know who live in JBR and dont have the problem with the smells, etc I think it comes down to how well the building you ar living in is maintained Hi, after weekends of viewing flats we have now decided to move to JBR. I was not 100% sure about it, but maybe some of you can help me overcome my concerns and give me some questions. We will be moving in a flat with no balcony and no windows to open !!! Will that be a problem with fresh air? Has someone arranged for new built-in windows (to open) and how much was it? Which company did you use? How much do we need to calculate for DEWA and Empower? Is there a nursery in JBR or any playgroups for kids age 2 1/2 and 1 year old? Can I do babyswimming somewhere there and is there a gym for myself to do Aerobics or something else? How is the traffic in the morning, around 7 am going to SZR in both directions? Anything else I should know about moving there. We are a family of 4 and will also have a live in maid in 2 weeks - wow, looking forward to it. TIA for any information Simone

Hey Congratulations! , My DS was 13 months or so .... when I found out no 2 was on the way I treid giving a bottle (formula)...what a nightmare ! so called my midwife and she also advised to let him self wean because the supply drops of a bit and the taste and consistancy changes by two months I noticed by one month DS was just not getting enough milk - so i again offered him formula and after the second or so offer - he took it happily he now knows what a bottle is about - and will even point to it when he wants it I think it was a good choice for us - so DH can get more involved with taking care of feeding no1 , I was very sleepy during my 1st trimester and then when no2 is around and also needs to be fed wont have to stress so much about no1 Goodluck Hope you have a nausea free first trimester

There is also a revolving restaurant in AD Marina Mall - its in the tower at the back of the mall - Takes you to the 44th floor - takes about one hour to get a 360degree view I went with my 15 month old - with no reservation - the staff was great The prices are reasonable and they did not mind me feeding my litle munchin his own snacks There is a coffee shop on the 43rd floor - but this one doesnt revolve - still great view with a gppd selection of sandwiches

cheers sprout, I am going to Dr Laxshmi at Ibn Battuta Welcare but I am still unsure as I don't think anybody on EW has been to her before and the other worry is the excessive scans she is performing on me (see my other thread). Can you ladies recommend me an alternative Gynae in the New Dubai area pleeeease? Hi I am due in Nov...so not too far behind I think it might be good that u have a gynea that the whole of Dubai isnt going to I initially went to a dr at medcare --- that i read about on EW - but she was soooo busy - felt like i was apart of a production line! This is my second - first munchkin was delivered 15 months ago at City Hospital - cannot overpraise thier service or staff!

Just heard the presenter say - how the guests today are so much more fashion aware --- would be nice if they applied it their dressing - so many wearing "granny suits" ...... since its a royal wedding kinda expected more poshness - wow flower arrangements - at least chair covers for the rather sad and uncomfortable chairs

yeh either get a taxi or if you are etihad use their bus, parking at any airport is really expensive but obviously if its only for a couple of days then drive down. its like 250 + for a taxi each way ad/dxb. Hi We flew from AD - our LO is a few months old so decided to take a taxi to the airport - instead of the couch - approx 150aed from the marina, when you get back and want to get a taxi from AD airport - be sure that you get a metered taxi For some reason they try to usher you into a "limo" basically a normal unmetered sedan - but you will pay min 250AED, The metered taxi's are parked a few meters away - just be assertive and get a proper taxi so you dont get ripped off

Eellar - Google post partum hairloss In short hair grows and falls (about a 100 strands a day) - this is normal but during pregnancy - everything just grows - no hair fallout - not even the normal one - and we slowly get used to thicker hair Then after birth - things go back to normal and the normal 90 day cycle of hairgrowth drop off starts - hence we start noticing the major hairloss from around 3 months Apparently its worse if the mother has had a particular stressful birth (which i think is true for most of us away from our usual support systems ) My gynae also told me to continue to take pregnacare but more because i was bf and to just relax ....things would return to normal - which was hard ...cos my hair had fallen off in patches in some places (and i have long hair ) so it was quick distressing But Thankfully its true - it grows back !!! By 9 months hair had grown back completely - and I continued to breastfeed till 13 months old so personally i dont think the bf is affecting the hairloss So just hang in there - and consider this a chance to try a new hair style

Snowflake .... Just an idea .... what about "adopting" newbies to Dubai, showing them around your city and helping them settle in ... I am sure you can offer your services to placement agencies or HR of big companies Or Maybe adopting ....new moms who don't have mums or extended family for support. People who are generally getting on with things but deep down ....wouldnt mind having someone worry after them. Just ideas to fill the empty nest ....

Hi Cappie - i am looking how can I contact you ? Ladies, I was looking for a housemaid to stand in for mine while she was in Sri Lanka. I ended up with 3 lovely Sri Lankan ladies - all highly recommended by friends of mine. They speak good English, are good with children, more mature which I think it important as they are able to make sensible decisions while you are out at work. I would love to help find these ladies a job as I obviously only have 1 job to offer. Let me know if anybody is looking.

City - is a South African Hospital - so you know they are good! :) Regarding a Pediatrician I delivered my son at City and we have been seeing the pediatrician Dr Syed Rais Ahmed since - btw he also sees patients at Kids First Medical center. He has a very gentle freindly manner with children, he takes the time to answer all my questions, tries to accomadate all my requests (especially with regard to splitting vaccines) and most importantly - takes the time to do thorough examinations I took my son to a pediatrician two blocks away when he wasnt well - cos i didnt have my car or car seat - big mistake - cos this dude told me - maybe he is coming down with something - by listening only to my descriptions but not actually examining my son. The next day - I visited Dr Ahmed and he advised that my son had a strep throat, maybe cos he actually examined him!

90% of the time - I think the sales ppl in Dubai - don't under the concept of customer service or just don't give a cr@p ... but this weekend i was pleasantly surprised! And was just curious - are thier other stories of good customer service ? But first the not so great start to it I went to Paperlane to purchase a diecut machine ..not look around .... but to actually buy .....when I asked about the machines features .... the sales people told me to" go and look at the internet madam"..... more than once ...no matter how i rephrased the question ....?!?! .... so i finally gave up and asked if they would prefer " I go buy the machine somewhere else ", .... the staff " replied.....ok madam ... then walked away ... to go and have a chat ! And now for the WOW Expierience I used Caesars - (located on SZ, near Ibis Hotel) to cater my sons Birthday And they were amazing ! On short notice - they setup , threw in some extra tables and chairs and served hot food (despite it being a very windy day) Before cleaning up and leaving - they packed all the leftover food and drinks then cleaned up and left And to top it off thier services didnt break the bank ! I would use them again - and recommend them to anyone that wants a quick and easy solution when they need thier catering sorted! edited by SA_Babe on 13/02/2011
