Hi Mustella is a great product ! it might not feel very thick and emollient but the mustella stellatopia range is perfect for dry skin another good product my dr advised was cetaphil - you can get it an any pharmacy If however the eczema is not leaving you might need something like cutivate (.05% hydrocortisone) or locoid - 1% I was hesitant about using creams with cortisone but - you really just need to use a very little amount for it to be effective and very quickly makes your child feel better we took the cautious method - and the area just ended up getting a secondary infection from her scratching it and we ended needed antibiotics to clear it up so now when we notice her reacting to something we just put cutivate cream on the affected area and fenistildrops (antihistamine) and in no time she is sorted out btwMy daughter has excessive eczema and allergies - i tried changing detergents , restricting certain type foods etc but dr loubser (a highly recommended allergist and immunologist ) says we should use non-bio washing powder (like purex) and just continually moisturise the area

both are good schools but different curriculum s al raha - international bacclaurette gems american - american curriculum so it more a decision of which curriculum you want to follow where you going to live after ad matters - as it is better to choose a curriculum that you can continue after your life in ad personally i prefer the british curriculum as it is a bit more structured academic wise but otherwise I really likes gems lovely facilities & staff when we did a school tour

welcome to the neighbourhood! my first child was also 20 months when no2 arrived at the time i lived in the marina but found it didn't matter where you lived with 2 small kids - you days go just bathing feeding and sending them to bed ...lol there are 2 parks in al reef - so walks to the park to allow your 20 month to run around and you to get some fresh air sand meet other mums might be all you would be able to manage in the first few months anyway there are some kids activities nearby

Hi - tried PU/PD as suggested by baby whisperer it works! but you need a lot of willpower and patience for all his naps and bedtime i would just wrap him up and place a hand on him till he slept but then we forgot how crazy life is without a routine and went of the wagon for a while by which time he was older so we saw cecile de scaly - she runs baby sense in dubai charger around 250aed per session she worked out a routine for us and was available on the phone / email for additional support following her advice we moved him into the nursery (out of our room) and did CIO when your doing it it doesn't feel right - as a mother your instincts tell you to run and carry your baby but the reality it works after 3 days he started going to bed with no issues now at 3 years old - we read him a story - pray and say goodnight - and he sleeps till around 7am when he is tired - he can go to bed with no issues even during the day my daughter on the other hand - has allergies etc so we didn't do any form of sleep - and we can see the major difference

the use is full of expats - i think maybe 75 - 85 % expats so regardless of where you live - you won't be alone lots of people from the uk all over the country also you can use this time in the uae. as an opportunity to meet other nationalities and gain a wider view of the world there are a lot of groups - so sooner or later you and your little one will make lots of friends! mums n tots group http://www.facebook.com/groups/46655216731/10151234073306732/?notif_t=group_activity for al reef http://www.facebook.com/groups/265463033475592/

I think a lot of us expats have this same issue -more or less being away from our family and home - i think we crave that connection to where we come from and it hurts when family doesn't take the time - to call or text or mail (especially since all of these methods are so easily accessible ) and somehow everyone thinks we have lots of money which has replaced our hearts and need for love and affection from our families and if you have a better life - you deserve it - you left behind your home -your family you should leave it as it is - you where hurt at their actions but still contact them sooner or later they will realise you weren't expecting preferential treatment because you pay for the holidays but because you are family can d care about them and should care about you too!

maybe sort of tell her - if she is an otherwise good friend - knowing why she is losing friends might help understand the boundaries of friendships and help her to make and keep friends in the future maybe she is just very comfortable with you and considers you a real friend and calls you without thinking - so if you stop accepting her calls - and pretends to busy all the time - she will get the message - but will probably be very hurt along the way - trying to figure out why the friendship died - so if she is a generally good person - help her grow as a person - its not your responsibility but its an option

really i would love a villa and big garden ! and would prefer KCA as its closer to the schools and shops The prices we came acoss where as follows In al reef the villas where listed at 110 k for a 3 bed (we didn't look inside) in al raha gardens townhouses from 150k al raha villas - 165k khalifa city A standalone villas from 180k we saw shared villas for 110k and they where not nice at all if you find anything better pls let us know Hi When we came out in December, we spent a day looking round and went to Al Reef area, it was ok but not what we were looking for, we found that the Villas we looked at were small and very compact, and the gardens to be to small for our little one, even the ones we saw with Pools in were still very small. We can get standalone Villas with a pool and quite a large garden in KCA for the same price pretty much.

Hi - we also moving to abu dhabi - currently in dubai and have been driving down looking at places initially we wanted a villa in khalifa cityA - but to be honest after living in dubai - its a bit dire - ant around with agents thats showed us mainly shared villas - that i just can't see myself living in the places i did find that where nice - where al rah a gardens and al reef . al raha gardens - is an alder development you just go to their offices opposite the road from the villas - they give you a few key and you can go look at the villas at your leisure but these tend to be more expensive villas another option is al reef - nice community not too far from the airport this is probably where we will be moving to happy house hunting !

Hey For my first pregnancy - i too had too sac's but only one heart beat eventually the second one just disappeared - i remember having light spotting and the doctor putting me on duphaston - but can't remember if that was before or after seeing the embryo (i found out i was pregnant - and it took 3 visits before we saw anything on the ultrasound - just had to watch the hog levels go up and hope) i think we saw two for two visits then - just one very strong heartbeat - with no complications thereafter - he was 10 days overdue but other than that everything happened as the books described congratulations

sounds more like he is a bit selfish - how has he supported you ? and made your life easier? or is he on of those who expects you to take care of the house the kids and still do everything for him? has he entertained the kids or taken care of dinner a few nights a week so you had a chance to relax and give more into the relationship between the two of you? I mean they are his kids too and your his wife what has he done in the last 6 years to make you feel special and loved ?

Hey I was told my LO - now 3yr old DS was born with a tongue tie - so latching on was almost impossible - until the lactation consultant at city at the time - doretta - showed me how to breast feed him using this weird mustella breast shields Thankfully this was done while we were still in hospital the ped at the time told me - we can consider operating as well but if we don't have problems to just leave him - but he will have a lisp we chose not to operate by 2 months he was able to breastfeed without the shields and now at 2.10 months he talks none stop - but with a slight lisp I think in an odd way it adds character so glad we didn't operate if you don't have a dr you have to operate with maybe get a few opinions - from your lactation consultant and one or 2 paediatricians before you make the firm decision to operate especially in the mouth i think make sure you really have to before you do it

Not that i am saying the OP is doing this - but there has been many a thread on here of posters offloading their dud (sorry wonderful maids) Just saying that i would be very very wary of a "wonderful" maid - as we know how hard they are to come by. you know that makes a lot of sense ! Its easier to find a bigger apartment or outside living arrangements than a lovely nanny!

Worse than annoying MIL are annoying needy SIL At least MIL can be credited with raising a man worthy of marriage and your love SIL on the other hand - I just don't know Mine decided to visit me when my second child was born - but instead of pampering the kids and occupying no1, she spent her time shopping for her kids (with me driving her around and the 2 little babies in tow ), or re-arranging my house, she's short - so most of the kitchen items were placed in low cupboards, I'm tall so bending after a c-section was not fun! And her reasoning - she's finicky like that, so instead of relaxing and catching up on sleep I had a SIL who kept me up while she re-arranged my house - and now she is always telling on bb how tough their life is financially (but i think lots of dxb. expats of "family" like that tho so if you have a nice set of "in-laws" treasure them!

Where can i get - 1) Bulk sized baking soda boxes 2) Good quality essential oils 3) Small glass jars, small tins (for vapor rub), spray bottles 4) Beeswax I am sorry if i am asking the obvious, but with a baby in the house i don't want to go on a wild goose chase. TIA what do you use this stuff for ?

under 6 months they still need a lot of sleep and both of mine where up in average 2 hours then took a 1.5-2hours nap with no1 it was easy - he would rub eyes i knew he was sleepy and sent him to bed no2 was difficult (still is) if she has been up for 2 hours and shows signs of crankiness and pput her to bed when they awake i try to spend time with them, having tea and catching up on EW or sometimes doing chores in the room they are in knowing i get to the housework and cooking when they asleep this made life a lot less stressful! this is more or less how we handled our day wakeup - breakfast play - and light tidying up 9am - put baby down for first nap cleanup the house and attempted to get supper going 11am - feed baby clean up after baby

Its nice to have phillipino's reply and tell us what the phillipines are really like too often - a few bad experiences with oppurtunitistic / just plain dumb ppl - make ppl assume all philipinos are the same. Their are allot of smart and intelligent phllipino's with good values in the UAE - and it is sad that they are discriminated against simply because more people from their country work as maids

I met her at a play-date and was not really comfortable with her methods and experience she didn't seem to know a lot of basic things about sleep training (that i read in baby wise, baby whisperer and gina ford). But then again it was a short time - and i just heard the advice she was giving mothers without knowing the complete story on either side. I guess the thing that put me off was her likening disciplining children to breaking a horse. and while i used CIO with my DS and routines to get both my children to eat and sleep at the appropriate times - I prefer the "loving your children on purpose" method . (which sounded like the perfect solution prior to actually having the children ..lol) but it did teach me I found i get more co-operation when I explain and prepare them for whats coming e.g where we going and what they need to do - i also give them choices - where i limit the choices to 2 options so i am still the parent in control but they get to affirm their independence by making some choices. (it doesn't always work - but generally we have peace with this method) but sometimes When they respond with aggression or just bad behaviour that makes me wanna scream myself - we use TIMEOUT Basically I take them and place them on a naughty chair or a naughty corner ..... its a place that is otherwise boring - where they are close enough to hear and see . timeout time is 1 minute per age of the child at the end of the minute - i give a hug and explain why the behaviour was wrong and ask for an apology i try to keep the language short and to the point (hard for me to do !) the first few times tho - time out was more like i place him in timeout - he follows me - i carry him back ....until finally he gets the message now he sometimes goes to the naughty corner himself ! i think sometimes they just need a few minutes to collect themselves or just get the frustration of not being able to articulate their feeling out and a boring corner might actually ne what they need!

:( It doesn't work for everyone :( but i did find something else that works on everyone (my son, daughter and myself) Epimax Junior ( i bought in South Africa - still have enough so haven't looked for a local supply) Almost all my cousins use it on their kids so one day when i couldn't find my kids cream i used and was so amazed at how nice and smooth their skin was that i went out and bought some! Regarding Mustella - it is a good product My son was prescribed it as a baby by dr syed rais ahmed at city hospital and within days his skin was completely soft smooth and silky (i also tried the bum cream it burnt him - but i did have the product for quite some time in my baby bag - so it could have gotten bad) but anyway the other creams worked so well so i just continued using them and when my Daughter was born - the only products i used on her was the mustella - but the rash just never went away a dr in jbr - dr delia i think recommended iricar (homeopathic option)/ locoid(contains 1% hydrocoritson) eventually i just used - and almost immediately I could see results but i don't like using cortisone on a baby so i was really glad when i found the epimax another thing that i realised - sometimes you also need to treat the source - for my daughter it is allergies - whenever she eats something she shouldn't - her elbows and ankles turn red and she gets a rash - so then i take note of the last food she ate and try to avoid until she is a bit older

Hey I had it with both my kids - from about 16 weeks and it got worse as time went on There were some days when the spd along with shooting pains from the stiatica nerve that literally left me unable to move or turn over - on these day I got a full body massage and it really really help (with a few hours would be able to walk again) I was obviously pregnant so the ladies were careful to make it more of a gentle relaxing massage ...instead of laying on my back ...i would lie on my right side then left side It really helped with my back pain also I made sure they avoided the ankle area (apparently massage here can induce labour)

I have no experience with that, but ... as we are leaving Dubai very soon, I am looking for a nice family for our FANTASTIC maid (filipina). I can definitely recommend her. She lived 4 years with us, was never a day sick and always doing her work with a smile. She is excellent in cleaning, ironing, ... and has a talent for cooking. I could really use a helper - so please mail me your contact details and maybe we can arrange an interview ? sandboxtreasures @ gmail

Congratulations Was you not so long ago - new in Dubai, pregnant and wanting something familiar to home Now two babies later - both delivered in City Hospital - I can tell you that the most important thing that you need for your first baby is a gynea that is "motherly" - basically someone who has a good bedside manner and will patiently listen to all your concerns then put you at ease So now at the beginning visit a few - and see who you feel comfortable with Try to get a Dr - who will give you their mobile number and is willing to take your call when your stressed out and need your doctors assurance Their are a lot of recommended dr's on EW - but everybody is trying to go to them - and as a result they are very busy and just cannot give everyone the required time - some hospitals are running production lines so now at the beginning of your pregnancy go and visit a few places - and see which place makes you comfortable I delivered my first child with dr ebrahim from city - martie(south african head midwife at the time) recommended him - and i have to say - at all times I felt confident in his abilities, I ended up having an emergency c section - but wasn't at any point forced into a c - so i would recommend him in general - but he doesn't have the easiest bedside manner which you might need during your first delivery My friends delivered with - dr grace. at dubai mall - she delivers in city and american hospital Dr Justine at life line medical centre in JBR - I love and recommend but she doesn't do deliveries anymore - but can see you up until 20 weeks she is very motherly very caring and very cautious Their is a midwife - cecile - BabySenseDubai on Facebook She offers prenatal classes and then when the baby is born is can assist with breastfeeding and putting your baby on a good routine btw - city hospital also has a lactation consultant that will visit you after you deliver to help with breastfeeding a book i found really useful when the baby arrived was - baby whisperer it was a sort of guide on what to do - now that the baby is here (i had read alot of pregnancy books but nothing about how to bath feed or put baby on a routine when he arrived) anyway - good luck and give us a shout if you need any info

As a previous poster stated - thier are always 2 sides to the story When hiring someone who is going to come into your home and be apart of your family - it would be advisable to get good references and possibly a trial period Having a few conversations with someone is not the same as living with them and being thier employer our maid who is generally a nice lady with what i consider generally good morals and manners - cleaning nothing stellar - and my kids love her plus will work her days off for extra pay (or in exchange for other days off) and i thought wow - how lucky are we that she is soo accomdating to our needs especially when DH or I have to attend classed on a weekend BUT she has made friends on the bus she takes to her aunts house on her days off who have been filling her with all sorts of ideas on how she can made more money working partime or for a western family etc etc Thankfully for us - the aunt who brought it to our attention - so we wont be renewing her contract and wont be banning her, so she is probably going to look for a new job and we dont know what she is going to be telling them so my recommendation is - be sure and get both sides of the story once you pay that 5000aed you have to either wait out the year or lose that money before you hire someone else
