is himself's thing, he can't bear not to have the holidays all booked up and a spreadsheet going. I get powerpoint presentations. Also, theres specials that end 31st Jan, so we take advantage of those. Have to, was a big year travelling last year and we need to consolidate this year. Apparently. according to the presentation I was given last night. The weirdo. LOL....same as my DH, minus the presentations that is. I get emails with flight info with a message "research thoroughly and book everything as necessary"

As most posters suggested, even though not much can be done for the tailbone itself, it may be best to have it looked at in case other parts are off kilter from the fall. Many moons ago, I slipped on icy concrete stairs and bounced down 5 steps on my behind like a rag doll and ended up looking like a macaque! It was so bruised (so was my pride) and painful, and impossible to sit. Being a student a the time with limited financial resources, I just "grinned" (from teeth clenching) and bore it. But it took months for it to feel "normal" again. But fortunately I don't have any long term ill effects even after falling many times on my behind from skiing since then. I hope you get it sorted out and feel much better soon!

Hi, you are right, it is close to the Clock Tower but on the south of it toward Deira City Center. I think it is the building at the large intersection of Al Maktoum and Al Ithihad Road. If you were to approach the Clock Tower from Maktoum Bridge, turn right to go toward the airport/Deira City Center. At the next large intersection where the Al Maktoum and Al Ithihad Road intersect, you should see the Al Shoala building on the right and furthest corner from you (2 o'clock position if you were at intersection). I hope they haven't moved and this isn't too confusing. Good luck finding it!

We have been there a few times, and our last trip was last August. The weather was perfect for us. Due to diving, we did a tour around the island for different diving spots. In Kuta, we stayed at the Holiday Inn which was much better than expected. At the end of the trip, we stayed in Nusa Dua at The Laguna Resort & Spa, it was alright, but be careful of moldy rooms though. Tripadvisor really gives detailed reviews of the hotels, great source of reference.

My 4 year old had this last week. I went to the pharmacy as my Dr was closed also and he suggested a saline solution eye drop which cleared it up (it is called Apisal). Apisal? That's interesting. It is a sodium chloride solution which helps to reduce swelling of the surface of the eye (cornea) and has absolutely no anti-microbial properties.

I posted this on B&B but hoping to get some quick responses. My DS just got up from a nap with his eye glued shut with the discharge. I'm thinking eye infection but his dr's office will be closed in half an hour for the weekend. Can pharmacists recommend something or should I take him into the hospital. Is the eye red or swollen? Does his keep wanting to rub his eye as it's itchy? It may be bacterial conjunctivitis but could be other possibilities as well. The pharmacist will likely give him some drops but it's always safer to have a doctor ie Ophthalmologist to examine the eye in greater detail. Take picture of the eye in case to show to your doctor. In the meantime, try to use non-eye stinging baby shampoo on a wet soft cloth (or prepared eye scrubs) to wipe the goop off the eye. Bacterial conjunctivitis is highly contagious, so make sure he doesn't touch his eyes (easier said than done) and wash the stuff he has used. Hope he gets seen soon and feeling better.

It's a possibility that you won't be able to register their car then, as I suspect their passports have probably been flagged in the RTA system too. I think the bank/gov't would probably want to confiscate anything they can get to recuperate some of their losses. I hope you won't get into trouble for trying.

It's hot and humid all year round! :) It's like here except "older" with crazier traffic and absolute chaos when it rains. It can be just as frustrating dealing with the bureaucrats, so be patient. The more popular areas for expats are Kenny Hills, Mont Kiara, Damansara Heights etc. If office is in the city center, may be look into Ampang-Ukay Heights area. As for safety, like any big cities, just be more aware of your surrounding and take caution at all time, overall, it doesn't feel as "safe" as it is here in Dubai IMO. This is a food paradise! Lots to eat and plenty of things to do both within the city and in the surrounding states. Sorry, can't comment on the school issue. I am sure you will get more info from the other posters. Good luck with the move! http://www.expatkl.com/ver09/indexcontent.php http://www.alloexpat.com/malaysia_expat_forum/viewforum.php?f=31

I just had a car title transfer completed in December. The registration expired at the beginning of November. I asked specifically then if there would be additional penalty for registering the car late and it was the usual 5 AED per day late answer. As long as you have a letter of power of attorney (probably in Arabic) to show it to RTA it should be ok (unless the car owner has been "blacklisted" for whatever reason), a copy of the owner's driver's license and passport as well (sorry, am not 100% sure, just know that the owner usually has to be present at time of title transfer) and have the car already insured under the new owner's name. Just need to fill out the application form, bring along a passport copy of the new owner and the insurance policy copy. So when I did the transfer more than a month later, the process was a piece of cake. If I am not mistaken, I did not end up paying the late fees either. Good luck!

I have AXA and they told me that anyone with UAE driving license driving my car will be covered under the policy. Sorry, I don't know anything about this UAE temp license. May be call up your insurance carrier and ask them specifically, and preferably in writing if permissible.

3 days may be tight but 4 days is just right. Depends on your interests; may be one day in the Forbidden City, one day to tour the Great Wall of China at Badaling and one day for the other palaces and temples like the Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven, Museum etc and 4th day shopping! Or just do sightsee in the mornings and leave the afternoons for shopping. I don't advice going during the winter (Nov to Feb...it's just cold and dreary :-( ) and definitely don't go during Chinese New Year or National day/Golden Week!

This is how I would go about shopping for the cheapest rate: Check the hotel's own website and see what the rate is for the dates you want (be sure to read about cancellation policy etc), then google the hotel and check out a few well known 3rd party websites ie expedia, booking.com etc to see what they offer, then call up a few tour operators in Dubai or email some in Colombo to see the best price they can come up with so you can compare.

In China Town London normally where there are dishes with birds nest its normally decoration ie., food placed in fried noodles that resembles a birds nest. Right! But there are people who eat the real birds' nests and not the fried yam bowls that look like birds' nests. and my point is double check facts before telling people to boycott the restaurant. Babyrat, the point to boycott the aforementioned restaurant (namely Chizen in my previous post) was due to the fact that they use genuine sharks' fins as Cyclone T had confirmed by calling them to verify. Did I say to boycott them for birds' nests or abalones? The last I checked, they were not on the cruelty to animal list.

A friend e mailed the Festival City management ppl to ask/complain only to be told "you can choose something else, you know". Having said that I had no idea there was a substitute (for sharks fins in sharks fin soup) so I will ring and check tomorrow before continuing my campaign :) Yes, there is a fake kind essentially made of gelatin :-) Any conscientious restaurateurs will not sell the real thing. I think they should just change the dish name all together.

I am appalled...especially at the Sharks Fin soup. For those who don't know sharks are caught (live) have their fins cut off (live) and are chucked back in the ocean (live) to drown (as without their fins they cannot swim) - in their hundreds of thousands every year. I'm starting the campaign for a boycott of this place here and now... Have you confirmed that they are indeed real sharks' fins?

I personally like Fairmont Singapore as it is just above an MRT station (City Hall) and Raffles City Shopping Center. The prices are reasonable as well from 300 SGD and up. Internet acsess is automatically complementary if you sign up for the President's Club membership. Have a great trip!

As hooters said, they may have entered the wrong time. I remember in one incident where I was blocking an intersection (well, half of my car behind was on the yellow box, my bad!) and I saw the police officer standing off to the side writing furiously. I checked on the website few days later and there it was, except that it was am and not pm and wrong date! I paid it anyways knowing I did it. So if you are one of those people who never hold a phone to your ear while driving, then you should contest it for sure. Let's hope that it's one of those incidents where they captured you on their camera and can show that it was you or not you rather. Otherwise, it's your words against theirs. Good luck!

I don't use many of the other vouchers and swapped a load of them for some Fine Dining vouchers. Friend with the Fine Dining book is not buying it this year so if anybody wants to swap let me know - I never use the Aquaventure vouchers for a start. Just the person I am looking for :-) Lakshmi, could you please email me at my username @ yahoo dot com. Thanks!

No offense to those who recommend Lillian Too's. IMO, she is way too commercialized. In her books (which mostly repetition), you can practically buy "something" to put "somewhere". That's not what real FS is about. If you want to self learn the basics, Joey Yap's books is a good start. In any case, it is good to have solid fundamental knowledge before you pay lots of $$ for courses taught by the Masters.

Even if you are working in Manhattan, as long as you are not living within the five boroughs, you DON'T have to pay New York City Tax (If I remember correctly, it was no more than 4%). Places to consider if Manhattan is over your budget (a 700 sq ft apartment would probably cost somewhere near 3000 depending on which part of Manhattan) are New Rochelle, Mamoroneck, or any of the Westchester county area with the metro north lines which makes getting into Manhattan an easy commute. Eg, from New Rochelle to Grand Central is about 30 min or so commute. Also depends on whether you will have a car or not as parking fee in Manhattan can be costly and a car is really not necessary as the subway is pretty extensive. The last time I had a broker, the commission fee was one month of the annual rent. So you will be looking at up front fees of first month rent, last month rent, security deposit and broker's fee. Good luck with the move!

For as long as they are considered the citizens of US, they will have to file for income tax even if they haven't stepped foot in the country. If they don't want to file, it is best to give up their US citizenship and take on their father's?

It's been a long while since I registered for online access. If I remember correctly, once you have registered online, they will automatically send you an email reminder once a month assuming you have entered your email address under "Contact Details" on the left hand panel. So double check to see if your email address is there or not.

No problems accessing DEWA website via FF at all. As Jules said, may need to change your security setting. Don't forget to sign up for email reminder so that when a new statement becomes available, it will be sent to you via email. I only get paper statements sporadically so the email reminder really helps.
