i will see if I have a school websiet link...the government of dubai has one...where you can search according to cirriculum..... We pay mid 40 for school....with all the fees....and thats a cheaper school...neg. the school allowance if possible. American School of Dubai is 70 a year...so about 22000.00 US.. can get very pricey......... Check out the site Dubizzle Dubai....good for anything and everything Internet City and Jumeriah are about 20 min-30 min apart in bad traffic.... Take Care

I will do my best to help.... I am from USA and also moved here with 3 kids for the very same reasons you mentioned....plus my husband is a Arab, so even better....He also works in Internet City....:) We are happy but... yes its super expensive to live here- you sure you want a 5 bed? We bought cars here cause your cars will be fried from the USA...different AC systems and paint....cause of climate....yes you can bring them here but...TONS of shopping that very few afford, even when you make plenty..Rent will be at least 200++ its hard to uproot any way you look at it....HOWEVER We live in Jumeriah 3. 10 min to tons of things AT THE MOST....including the schools...and no they were not our first choice, so its the one we TOOK. We are happy with it, wish we could change some things, but overall its ok. My kids have friends from every corner of the globe. Really. I can be at the beach in 5 min.... & a big plus with 3 little ones...I have a maid, cannot get that in the USA....I feel like Im dating my husband again....yes corny but its nice. We have time to grab a coffee when they sleep...go to a movie...etc.... Another big plus, people are nice, friendly and for the most part want to meet others.... The locals are very nice. You may not know many but give them a chance...very nice people. they have opened the country to so many...Saw Diwali, Eid and Christmas decorations so far....and nobody is making a fuss about anything. Dubai is clean clean clean. Its safe - very little violent crime here like in the USA. No gun violence. Also, the people of Dubai are happy with Dubai...makes living here easier. Yes Im not sugar coating everything but its nice....and you can get spoiled a little, if only for a few years. Yes alot of people leave here for the summers....I plan to also....

By the way, duck a l'orange is delicious and much nicer than turkey, in my opinion! Why don't you try it, you might be pleasantly surprised! I know, Im not being grown up, but I think that ducks are so cute, hard to eat, I know its stupid.

Ladies i do want to tell you that Bab al shams emailed me the menu and there is no turkey or beef roast on it..... so if you are expecting a traditional dinner?? please look into it. I dont think we are going because the food is just not what we eat for Christmas, especially duck....not common in USA... There is definitely turkey on the menu I received from them, did you scroll down to the second page of the pdf? THANKS- i did not get a second page....!!! wasnt too into beef goulash or duck!!!

Harsh? strict? They are OUT ON BAIL? leaving 2 kids 4 and under home alone to go to the market at 130 am??? are you serious? Not a emergency. They are shopping. Also seems as if it happened before They dont deserve kids. Period. Heres a idea- one parent stays home and one goes.....? I cannot even believe that people think this is harsh for parents.

what about bab al shams? anyone been there for xmas? We've decided to try it there on Clairedhp's recommendation from last year. We've got nephew coming over from Vancouver and the contrast will be amazing for him, though I think I'm going to be more impressed than the teenagers if Father Christmas rides in on a camel from the desert! Depending on weather, will get full pool day as well! Oooooh hope you enjoy it. It was fantastic when we went last year! I would book an outside table - we sat on the terrace and it was glorious. There was so much food to choose from and they kept on bringing out turkeys to carve for you. The food was really good. For me - the whole setting was magical. It's something you will never forget seeing Santa arrive across the sand dunes on a camel. My kids had a great time too - there was loads for them to do and we enjoyed our day immensely. Don't know about pool access but to be honest - we didn't have time to do the pool too. It was just lovely to relax and take our time over our lunch and chill out in the sunshine. I hope it's as good this year as it was last...... ohh i wish they were doing the same...no turkey this year??? i dont know why....you made it sound dreamy!

I recommend the Marriott Dead Sea, awesome spa and infinity pool....good for kids...and has beach access that wont take forever to get too.... I totally agree with the rest of the thread-- save time for Petra, Wadi Rum.....Amman? blah..........not too fun but the Four Seasons is nice as is the Sheraton. :) Enjoy- its chilly though, bring a coat for sure....

I have had no problems with Bupa. Had several visits to the urgent care for a infection. Everything paid 100%. I do know that some dr. here only take cash then you are paid back, especially peditiricans Ive looked into. That is the Dr. policy....and it applied to everybody. HTH

Glad to read Im not alone in feeling alone. thanks for this advice....your notes DO help...but its just hard to move and restart.....I really miss the fall and Halloween in the USA. I forced myself to go to a halloween thing here, yes its not the same, but kids had fun.... I stopped to help a collapsed elderly man in London who had been passed by several people and ignored. He was well dressed and clean so couldn't have been mistaken for a "down and out" As a nurse, I recognised that the man was in a diabetic coma so stayed with him while my friend popped into a nearby shop to call an ambulance. (This was before the era of mobile phones). Having been to China and experienced great politeness and friendly help when required, it is wrong to dam a whole nation. The story was relayed on Chinese TV and many people were horrified. During my stay in Doha, I was strongly advised never to stop and help anyone who had collapsed in the street or mall etc as you could be in so much trouble if you did help and the person died. There is good, bad and apathy in every country. Really, if someone here is choking or fainted or anything? shouldnt help? no cpr? wow.
