I am no 100% sure (as I never ordered from amazon myself) and I am also not from UK. But had a conversation with my DH collegue once, he was saying to me that if I ever need to order playmobil (it is not a stroller, I know), cheapest is to order on amazon.de and they also deliver in Dubai, and their delivery cost was cheap ..Can you not have amazon deliver the stroller to Dubai??

I have been here a few months, kids settled in, husband is happy in his job and I am home and start to feel bit bored. Send out few cv's, but realise it is not easy here to find the a part time job that can be easily combined with kids, so I start thinking of other options. I have a few ideas in my head. One of them will be starting a business from home, shortly catering and food delivery etc.. . I am on my husband's visa, so how does it work? what do I need to make it legal? what will it cost? Where can I enquire? TIA

reason for us was the constant earinfections, which was always solved with antibiotics..(which is also not good). Dr suggested the grommits and we did it. No more antibiotcs and no more earinfections. she di have a check up and grommits are fine in place still. What I understood is that they will fall out from themselves, no need to take them out.

Hi, My daughter had this done last year as she was constantly having ear infections. We were living in South Africa at that time, so operation was done there (but I do believe procedure is the same everywhere). She went in in afternoon and we could take her home in the evening. It is a very small procedure and very common. Nothing to worry about. She reacted bit funny on the anesthetic though. But that differs from child to child.. No side effects, no problems..and more importantly..no ear infections ever since! Good luck!

Hi Mamabear, I moved from CPT to Dubai recently and missing Capt Town a LOT! You will so love it there...Just don't be too scared of the stories you hear. A lot of them are told by people who just read figures and never been in CPT. Most of the crime and rape-figures are from within the townships. You do have to be more aware then here in Dubai ofcourse, as majority people is poor and a lot of the crime is 'little"crime (if you leave something visible, they will take it!). Different story for Johannesburg, where there is more crime, I will never ever move there...We lived in the Cape Winelands, Somerset West, 20 min drive from airport and very safe! Lots of good schools (my kids (now 4 and 7y, went to a private school on walking distance). It was a SA school, not an American, not too sure were American schools are located. SSW is a very lovely town, also Stellenbosch, very lovely. There are a lot of things to do for kids, very child friendly country. It is an outside living way-of-life, wine-estates, beaches, mountains, nature, ... People are very down-to-earth, and very helpful..We made friends more easier then we did here... After our Dubai-experience, we can't wait to move back to Cape Town (although we are not South africans). It just feels like our home... Please shout if you need more info! There is a facebook site called 'boere in die woestijn' and it is a facebook site for South africans in the desert, it is mainly in Afrikaans, but maybe you can also post there for help! Goodluck with the move! (jealous)

My 2 kids are on Chouiefat as well. Indeed, school struggles a bit with bad image, but so far, I really can not see why.. I am really impressed with the school infrastructure, schooling system, books.. We pay around R24000 on schoolfees per kid, which is very reasonable. What I do miss a bit, is a nice "mixture' of cultures..but my kids are happy, made lots of friends , and after all, that is all that is important to me!

Not only in UAE this happens..we had our kids on waiting list in private school in SA. There they also did not want to tell us on which number our kids where..They claimed because the list is active and siblings have preference etc,, so list can change...that is what we have been told anyway..

In the beginning was so looking forward to Dubai and having all this free time to do courses and ME-time...but now reality kicks in: I don't find a course I like, miss my friends back home so much, ME_time is not so fun as it first looked...actually finished my cv last week and want to look for part time work as well...which I never planned when I came here...but I need to fill those mornings... So you are definitely not alone with your feelings! x

Very true Flowerhead! So glad you are not my neighbour! We had a party to 2am on a Friday night. Informed the neighbours in advance, invited a few of them and nobody complained. So long as people don't abuse, noise is a way of life in a compound or appt block. You want peace, go live on a farm This is a selfish attitude: you are basicly saying people making noise disturbance have the right to do so and people who respect their neighbourgs by being considerate are the "bad" peolple ??!! I am sorry but the rules apply to everybody for the sake of everybody quality of life !

It only stopped because we and other neighbours complained..but even then it went on till 11pm .. Sorry but 60 people (that not even live in this app, but that is actually not important) screaming under my window and blowing hooters is not done and very unrespectful. Kids have to go to school next day! There are a lot of families with babies and little kids here..we sure were not the only one complaining. Just wanted to know if there is such a general rule in Dubai about time in the evening it should be quiet etc..Or does management of app make up his own rules?

very similar story, have to say..If she needed to do number 2, she would go hide behind the door, in a corner,.. We struggled a lot, went to doctors, paedetricians and not all of them took it very serious..'give it time', eat more veggies etc.. I only tried the suppo once as that was causing a lot of stress on her..she was screaming and crawling..she wanted to keep it in .. As it was mentally and not medical, we just worked on her.. I remember, we gave up potty training, back to nappies..as her biggest fear was going to toilet, doing a poo in the nappy was much easier for her..but even then she could keep it in her body for days....also put the focus away , I used to rush to her if I saw her behind the door: do you need to go to toilet, rushing to toilet etc...I stopped doing that, just nappy back on and no pressure from my side anymore then when it was getting better, step by step trying to make 'toilet time' fun//bought a plastic duck toilet seat, a nice potty etc...praising her, big five if she went (even it was almost nothing), stickerchart, etc...Also seeing other kids, sister or at school going to the toilet without problems helped! once she realised, it is not so scary , the fear went away step by step...but it was a stressful time and it took loooooong... So, my advice, throw away the potty for now, not mention it, let her first go back to normal toilet routine in the nappy..

Hi M, Our youngest daughter (now 4y), had more or less same problem when she was 2.5y old. We also tried the duphalac and movicol, but nothing seemed to work. When we gave her the suppo, it was heartbreaking to see her ..crying, moving, crawling, screaming her lungs out etc.. I am not saying your DD has same problem, but in the end it turned out, she was not constipated as such, but is was a 'fear' of doing number2.. We really struggled to have her potty-trained..she was always afraid..apparantly it is very common with kids of that age..they hold it and hold it..because they are too afraid... Not saying it is the same in your case, just saying what we been through..so it was not medical problem, but we had to focus on her mind.. Maybe you are in the process of potty training and that frightens her??

I meant 'shooting' instead of shouting..sorry English not my first language :-) He is a real hero in SA and think also outside the country as well. I also always had lot of respect for him, but have problems to believe that even if it is a burglar, you shout 4 times in the head/upper body, specially if there is no shouting back... Just read now as well: He also used to have 2 little white tigers at home as a pet, had to sell it to a zoo as they got bigger..so bit of strange dude.. Armed guards on his property too No smoke without fire and who knows what a national treasure is really like, look at Jimmy Saville and the guy of It's a Knockout

agree 100% Fair enough, I see I'm completely on my own in thinking b*tchiness is unnecessary. I just think that comments should surely be useful, I absolutely dont think we all need to be nicey nicey, hold hands sing songs and wear flowers in our hair but people should feel they can ask questions if they don't know the answer and think that ladies on EW might be able to help. Debates are fantastic and the forum is great for this, we're opening ourselves up to hear everyone's views and opinions I know but when you read something and cringe it just feels unnecessary to me thats all.

Sorry but I don't agree! I am NOT on this forum to read these fights. I do agree that you should not always agree and give compliments..but there is always a nice and polite way to answer and give your opinion! To me there is a big difference between giving your opinion (also if it is controversy) and to just attack someone..The person was called stupid etc..sorry but you just don't do that! We are all on this forum to help eachother and to get tips! If you find a question stupid: ignore it! you can also turn it around and say it is maybe not the right forum for the rude persons! have a nice weekend everyone! If everyone was all roses and compliments on this forum, it would not survive. The debates, controversy, and banter are what keeps it going. And let's be honest, it makes it for a very interesting and entertaining read. If ladies can't handle that and are too sensitive, then it's not the right forum for them.

Happy for you, you see improvement! Funny how these small steps can make someone so happy! Last year, my DD had to do show and tell in grade 1 and to be honoust, I was more nervous then she was..She did super! Would never ever thought 3 years ago, she would ever be able to do this..I was sooooooo happy! Don't push to hard he..can have a negative outcome as well if they feel pushed too much..You can not change their character. Most important thing is that they become confident and it does not limit them later on... Nice that the school and teacher takes it serious, as they need to cooperate with you...otherwise these tips are worthless..we were also lucky in that school she went in SA... Well goodluck with our shy kiddies! Ooh nice tips Nathalie! I have a shy one myself and his teacher keeps pushing him to talk more and encouraging him. He has now stopped whispering and says a few words. Lol! Oh well, I at least there is improvement. I was surprised at how helpful his school is at working on his 'reservedness'. (we were also told to never use the word 'shy',as that is labelling and can be used by the child as an excuse later on to avoid things they are uncomfortable with it). Wiesie,do you live near any good schools? South Africans pick up language quick after all majority of us can speak 2+ languages. ;)

Aaach shame, feel for you..not nice if moving somewhere else is a negative experience.. But to my personal opinion (having a shy child myself), I would stop home schooling and let him go to school and be around other kids...Kids need that social interaction. Making friends is the best thing that could happen to him! Keeping him at home in his 'safe' environment..is probably fine for him at the moment, but there comes a time in life he will have to go in the "tough' world..Staying at home, will not build up his confidence... send him to school..try it! He will struggle in the beginning, I am sure..but kids are flexible (even the shy ones)..My DD has just suprised us so much! She was very shy at the age of 4. It were little tips from playtherapist that made it all better... -ask him or her questions so that she is forced to speak: don't ask: do you wanna go to the toilet? but ask: is there something you wanna tell me?? (this was because even if she needed to go to tiolet she would just stand next to teacher and wiggle, but not ask the teacher if she could go to toilet) -let him order food himself in restaurant -don't be shy yourself as kids pick up your behaviour -Never say in front of your child, he/she is shy. -do one on one playdates with school friends, so he will feel confident, the class is then not a big group to him, but all friends .. It are just little tips that helped us step by step..Our DD will never be the most outgoing kid (you can NOT change someones character), but it will also not limit her anymore..She is much more confident and open and she comes up for herself! If you are really unhappy here, going home is ofcourse an option, but to me after 6-7months, it is too early to make that decision. Give it a try! Put his name down in a school that gives you a good vibe! let him socialize, play with others... Again, this is my personal opinion..Hope you and your family find happiness soon, wherever that is! Hey Nathalie, I have been in Dubai since 4th August last year, Dubai has not been good to us at all. we were part of the Mark Falcon scam, still busy with police lawyers court etc. my son is finding it very hard to find his feet he struggles with english, does not want to play with the english kids, being the only child is also not easy. For him going to a school in Dubai will be very difficult, he is a softy and very shy, he will come home crying everyday. I am out of options....

Hi, Think every child is different, but my DD (7y) needs her sleep..she is in bed at 7, she can read a book for 15 min..then it is sleepy-time.. At 6.30am, have to wake her up, so she needs her sleep.. In weekends we try more or less same routine, but it can happen that its is later, but than she can sleep out next morning.. As long as you feel she needs her sleep, why would you change her sleeping habits?
