My husband never gave him permission to help himself. Actually there has been afew incidents since they have been here, i know hes been having a nose into our personal drawers and took things before. I just didnt want the upset, but this time I had lost my patience as I really think her husband thinks we are stupid. I had never met him before they arrived, as soon as I met him I knew within an hour he was dodgy. I really want to tell my friend what has happened as I feel Ive been extremely let down and I consider what he has done as stealing. He has not spoke to me since Saturday, he moves about the apartment and completely ignores me. The atmosphere is absolutely awful.

I would suggest a pet relocator to cover this for you. Takes away all the headache. i moved my cats here and now in the process in moving them to the UK.

Home is here at the moment... but its just a temporary place to call home. Hubby and I enjoy quiet nights in, basically doing nothing is our favourite pastime.

Hi there, My hubby rents a car long term, he pays around 3200 a month. As for medical insurance, its very expensive without it, you will be given your insurance card after your husband has his residency and has started the process for you ( thats if you are being sponsored by him). Have you had all your own personal documents attested as you will need to before coming. We rent a 3 bed at the Corniche, 200K per year, one cheque. ( not sure if you are renting direct or is the company providing accommodation) If you are, then ask the company if they will give you the cheque in advance, some companies do, and some doing. I have used Brit Vet in the city, but im not to sure about them at the moment as Ive only been once. Bring plenty copies of marriage cert and the likes. When you arrive get loads of passport pics done, as you will need them. It can be quite stressful with all the paperwork, all I can say is, let it go... Happy travels and hope you settle in well.

No its not ideal to put our pets in a cattery, but I do think its the safest choice. My cats had to go into a cattery last year for about 9 weeks, (due to relocating countries) I can suggest and recommend Dubai Kennels and Cattery, they were excellent and the cats were treated very well.

45k is a reasonable amount to buy furniture and appliances. As long as you keep away from the high end stores.

As I understand it, you cant sponsor your maid, till your sponsored, this can take a while. So Im not to sure she can come in with you, unless you have your sponsorship in place and apply for her before landing here.

If your company can sponsor you, then I can't see why not. I remember someone lived and was sponsored but spent more time out of the UAE.

We moved from Dubai in 2012 to Qatar, we have now returned but to Abu Dhabi. I do visit Dubai and still think its a great place, but we are now very settled in AD. No regrets moving back to the UAE, it was always going to part of our plan, we just had to wait our time for hubby's company to have an opening for him.

Maybe look at individual construction company websites, and see if any jobs are available. When accepting a job make sure you check to see if the job offered is not single status, as this would mean the company will not pay out. Not to sure of the situation at the moment, but companies were employing people that are already in the region, this was obviously to reduce costs. My hubby works in construction, he has been very lucky as the 2 companies he has worked for a excellent. Good luck.

Unless you receive annual bonus's to help, these are far and in between. Maybe you may receive a pay increase annually, again don't hold your breath. Our rent allowance hasn't increased either in 8 years..

So the maid is telling you that you need to give her 5 years gratuity.... what a cheek. I bet you are glad she is leaving... The maid in question.. he monthly salary is very good... All food paid for, extra cash for babysitting, annual flights home, bonus etc.... A cleaner at home wouldn't earn this after tax and NI... This maid is one lucky lady.

Can I ask the poster if you are still on blood thinner, and how did you get on with them. I had a DVT in June last year, it was very serious at time they realised, as I had typhoid Fever and the DVT was picked up afew weeks later.

I left in July and wouldn't return even if hubby was offered double his salary. We are all different and need and want different things. I met people who like Doha and others loathe it, some just put up being miserable. I do think if its your first expat destination, then we don't know any better, but after being in the UAE, I personally compared everything. My hubby is normally the kind to just get on with everything, he also couldn't wait to get out..... Life for us is so much better in Abu Dhabi..... Good luck and just go with the flow..... hope everything works out for you.

Renting is expensive and prices are still rising. A friend recently looked at Al Reef, 3 bed villa was 155,000 and Al Reem 2 bed apartment was 150,000, alot of landlords want one cheque payment too. You have to buy all your white goods normally. You will need a car or 2, renting one will cost around 3000 a month. Seen so many people complaining of very high utility bills, some have said their bills are 4000 a month. I cant help with schools im afraid. Good luck with your decision.

I've been here over 7 years, no young children thou. There is a brilliant network of mums and kids. Im not saying it's easy to move, you need to want to try it. Yes I can at times real abit lonely, but its not to often, we have means to contact family as and when. The UAE is very safe, much safer than places in the UK. I love my life here.... As I hear their are brilliant hospitals to give birth in. I have found hospitals are far better here and we get looked after much quicker. So no complaints at all. Hope it helps.

we landed here in 2008, I also had food poisoning..... things do go wrong anywhere in the world.... its just bad luck...we live away from our home countries, and everything can be different, ( im from the UK, and think thats place can be crazy at times). If you are new here, it takes time to get it together..... I have an awful crease mark on my forehead from frowning over time.... take it all in you stride and at times just deep breathe.

Have you just moved here? The medical is for HIV/Tuber/Hepatitis - you don't have a pregnancy test for your medical...only the maids are tested for that. However I rem you have a chest xray and that might be harmful for your unborn child. Do try to get married asap and you can get married I the church here..good luck. Dont leave it longer than 2 wks from now. If you plan to marry here, you are tested.

Hubby is being process at the moment, so having my visa make take longer than expected. I flew in to AD on 24th July, so will be expected to do a visa run in 3 weeks. The only problem I have I have a medical condition that I am not allowed to fly or be seated for hours, in a car or bus. What will I do when my 30 days are up. I know its 3 weeks away, but I am worried. Can anyone advise if I can be extended due to health reason's. TIA.
